A weekend away in Barcelona

Came to Barcelona with friends for a weekend at a music festival. Arai was the perfect refuge after our long nights out. The blackout curtains made sleeping in easy, and the kitchenette helped us kick start our day! The rooftop pool is an absolute treat as well. Highly recommend.

Lovely hotel. Excellent

We stayed here for two nights, it was lovely from the moment you walk in. Everything immaculate and clean, friendly and helpful staff everything you need. We so had inclusive access to the soa at the sister hotel, this was great and a really good spa with lots of different experiences, steam, sauna, tropical showers etc and a pool. The hotel was about 30 min walk from the city centre and tourist attractions. A few nice restaurants, bars and shops close by. The roof terrace and pool were gorgeous with great views.

How this is a 5 star hotel is beyond me. Rude staff right from the get go. Front desk never addressed us by our names. Charged us an extra 37 euro because we didn't't specify in our booking we would be two people staying... We booked the luxury suite ? We booked one of the best rooms in the place and they are charging per head like this is a night club. Also no assistance with luggage? We had to bring our bags up a steep flight of stares. No wifi in the luxury suite. The hot tub was COLD. Jacuzzi cover was covered I'm old crusty bird poo. Bed was not as advertised. We asked for ice, and glasses of wine, but we were told it was not possible... WORST OF ALL: We booked a transfer to the airport with the front desk the night before for 830am. The morning of, we confirmed 1h before that the airport transfer was booked. The transfer NEVER SHOWED UP. No apology from the front desk, no communication. Luckily I speak Italy and understood the phone call the front desk worker was having with the transfer company. The front desk worker never communicated the car wasn't arriving, I overheard his conversation. We had to scramble to find a texi. Truly shamefully. 5 hotel star...idk...

Good value for the money

Reviewed By 850clayw

just got back on the 10th of june 2022 had 5 days at the camp. Myself and my daughter arrived in the afternoon We had a superior bungalow with fridge. The room was very clean and all bedding and towels were present. The site was clean and tidy, pool was great. Used the on site restaurant 3 nights and did breakfast 4 mornings found it good for the money. Cant praise the place enough. Quite far from Rome and the busses and metro were very time consuming although you can buy a 24 hour ticket on site for all transport for 7 euros. We did do the bus and metro but opted more for taxis, to get to the Trevi fountain or the Vatican city budget about 20-25 euros each way, make sure you only pay what is on the meter plus tip if you wish, we did get conned by a couple of taxi drivers but in general it was a easy way to go if you have the budget. Rome is certainly a place to go if you love architecture and the shopping was good too. would recommend the site for families and short stays also dog friendly. We found the staff to be ok. We didnt experience too much noise but people were allowed to check in late at night. In conclusion we had a very pleasent stay and thought it was value for money.

High quality, central and friendly hotel

Reviewed By 971bctravels

This is a wonderful hotel in Rome. It is about 10 minutes walk from Termini or Republicca train/metro stations so very central. It is a boutique pilgrim guesthouse and whilst we were in Rome to visit many churches and the Vatican, we probably didn’t qualify fully as pilgrims but we were welcomed enthusiastically by the charming and friendly staff. The guests were all ages and nationalities and mix of couples, families and solo travellers. Our room on the first floor was a well sized double room with a huge bed. We had 2 double wardrobes so plenty of storage space. We had a safe and mini bar/fridge in the room, as well as iron/ironing board and hairdryer in the bathroom. The bathroom was plenty big also with a great shower plus free shampoo/shower gel and hand soap. The breakfast was included and is very good with plenty of hot and cold options - it set us up for busy days of sightseeing! There is a beautiful church that is part of the hotel and has daily mass there also. I cannot recommend the hotel and it’s central location, spacious rooms and friendly staff highly enough. We will be returning!

Very good choice

Stayed here in May, very clean and updated rooms. Be aware the check in is on the 4th floor! We stayed on the 3rd in a very spacious room with a large window opening to a alley, it was fairly quiet other than one night having some people walking down the alley and yelling. No screens on the windows so be aware during bug season you probably can't leave the windows open but the A/C worked great. Fantastic location within walking distance to all major attractions. Staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple but great, eggs to order, juice, meats, cheese, cereal, fruit, bread etc. Next visit I would rebook here.

Great hotel and well located

We drove into Barcelona and found the hotel perfectly thanks to Gmaps, driving into the carpark was quite amusing as the entrance/lobby area is also where the cars go through when entering the underground carpark. Staff were very friendly and welcomed our arrival. After showing us where we could park we made adventurous drive down two levels as prepared by other reviews.... it is tight but manageable. Staff were full of great advice and information at check in. Giving reassurance that absolutely nothing was too much trouble! The room was well sized and very clean. A huge bath in the centre of the room and plenty of toiletries that were refreshed daily. Thanks again for a great stay.

Truly Speechless!

There are few words to describe our stay at this B&B. Even before we got to Rome, Alessandra and Massimo were incredibly helpful every step of the way. They both went out of their way to make our experience personalised and the best it could have ever been. Their Atelier is centrally located and thoughtfully designed. We had the opportunity to experience both rooms which are both unique and just incredible. There was no better place to experience Massimo’s passion for Roman history than on a night tour of Rome that he organised for us in a very special VW T2 Van. He has a true talent for story telling. Alessandra is talented interior designer and could can really tell the love she puts into the design of the B&B. They welcomed us like family and became such good friends. Would strongly recommend their place as the top place to stay in Rome- you will not regret anything!

An oasis

Reviewed By Mark T

This was a very last minute booking as we were waiting to see if the UK were going to put Italy on the quarantine list, they didn't so within 12 hours we had looked, booked and we were in our room here. For two weeks. Staff were brilliant, very helpful and arranged for a car to pick us up from the airport (also arranged one to take us back) as it was that last minute we couldn't pre-book one. It's about a 30 minute transfer from Fiumicino airport. Check in was from 2pm or 3pm but we arrived around 1 pm and everything was ready for us, very easy. Just a reminder of the city tax you have to pay on arrival at your hotel, i must admit i had forgotten. Breakfast was continental, good although the same everyday. Consisted of a choice of coffee, juice, cold meats and cheese, yoghurts, toast and criossants. It gave us a good start to the day ahead. Staff again were very helpful. It looks like, before covid, it was a help yourself but that had changed to a counter service but you could go back for more if you wanted. Our room was spotless as was the whole hotel. Main bedroom with a seperate bathroom with shower no bath, which suits me fine. There's a safe in room too. We were on the 5th floor and it consisted of a long corridor with rooms on the left and a long terrace on the right. The only room that has a private access to the terrace is the room at the end, room 501 which we rented solely because we prefer, if possible, a private terrace. Although with the other blocks and building over looking you it's not that private but we enjoyed it. Location. Slight problem but the good points first. Couple of minutes to the Metro, which was clean, tidy and efficient. 12.50 Euros each for a 48 hour ticket. Some decent restaurants with in a 5 minute walk, the Japanese all you can eat is great, Sushijun. We went twice. Take a 10 minute walk and there's more than enough to choose from, especially if you head towards Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica and pop down those side streets. 15 minute walk to some great attractions. Colloseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. All others are easily accessible via the Metro (apart from the catacombs, right rigmarole). Now the only down side, and i only mention it because it's not something that can be ignored or doesn't exist. We found Rome as a whole, dirty, smelly and scruffy but the worst part is your walk from the hotel to the Metro. In between there is a park and the area is full of homeless and drunks. It smells of human urine and excrement, in fact we caught one "lady" squatting next to the park wall urinating. It was midday. I have to emphasise that not once we were bothered for money, no begging at all, completely left alone and of course nothing to do with the hotel but it exists and nobody can pretend it doesn't. So after all that, yes we would still go back, and recommend, Domus Helena because the hotel itself is seperate from what seems the bigger issue in Italy.
