Disappointed

Reviewed By Ronnie S

I had always wanted to stay in this hotel. On 7th June 2022 my wife and I finally managed to get through to Edinburgh and stayed here. I was to say the least very disappointed. We had no towels in our bed room, my wife commented on this in the morning to be told “it’s not our fault, the towel supplier have left us short”…really. I’m sure if we had been staying more than 1 night towels would have been supplied. The room was very modern but overall given the price was underwhelmed by the experience.

Fantastic Young Family Break

Reviewed By kegaline1

We stayed here for 2 nights - myself, my partner, our young baby and our 3.5 year old - and we had the best time. We stayed in a family room in the main hotel that had a separate space for bunk beds which our 3 year old loved. There were so many activities. The massive play area with the fort, bouncy pillows, maze and crazy golf was fab. It’s a bit of a walk but an easy walk and buggy friendly. The food in the Italian restaurant that we ate in both nights was great, the kids menu was a wee bit limited though. The breakfast buffet had a huge selection. Check out was at 11am so it wasn’t too much of a rush to get out. The staff were all really friendly and attentive. The whole stay was summaries by our 3 year old who said “I just loved all of it”

Great place to stay

Lovely flat in beautiful surroundings with friendly helpful staff. Only slight jarring note was that someone had written ‘you’re gay!’ on a board in the children's play room, obviously intending it as an insult. It had clearly been written by an adult. When we pointed it out to a member of staff she dealt with it straight away which we were pleased with. However, not good to find homophobic graffiti like this. Everyone should be welcome.

New haven stay

Hotel itself is very good and as you would expect from Premier Inn. The food/ breakfast at the adjacent Brewers Fayre was second rate. Warm English breakfast food, mushrooms part cooked, toast had to be put twice through toaster, Not great value for money, but no other choice. I’ve stayed at Premier Inns at other locations and in house breakfast has always been as good as you can with buffet/self service. Disappointed this time.

Charming

Absolutely wonderful branch of Holiday Inn which was actually heads & tails above some 5* hotels we’ve stayed in. The reception staff were incredibly professional, warm-hearted and charismatic. The room was quiet, impeccably clean and a good size for 2 people. The breakfast was absolutely delicious; a wide variety of food, deliciously cooked and bags provided to take away fruit & pastries for the day. Absolutely faultless- thank you Anna and the other reception staff for your kind efforts and top quality assistance.

Malmaison Edinburgh

It's the mother of all Malmaison's. The former house of ill-repute now has a reputation that's second to none, and it's also just a short taxi ride away from Waverley Station. Malmaison Edinburgh bides at Leith (as they say up here), just a stone's throw from the Royal Yacht Britannia, but offering far more funky luxury. Yes, when you want exciting hotels in Edinburgh, this is the King, not the castle. Our Edinburgh hotel puts you close to all of Edinburgh's cobbled splendours, incredible shopping and famous galleries. Then it's back to Mal for Scots dining with a twist, a fine selection of single malts and mojitos in the bar and then back to the slinkiest and most spectacular rooms in the Scots capital.

Big rooms, nice view, not much else

Apologies to desmondb1066 for using his title; before I saw it my title was going to be 'Fawlty Towers [Mallaig branch]' , but his review sums it up very well. We booked several months earlier, and were most surprised when we arrived to find there was no proper restaurant service because - 'we had a fire in January', 'no chef because of a family emergency' or simply 'we have no chef'. We should have been told this in advance and the website should have been updated.[sharp practice?]. The young staff were friendly, but seemed a bit out of their depth. The buffet breakfast was good but, for those who might have wanted the full Scottish, no cooked food was available. Claims to be a luxury hotel, but no house keeping, e.g. bed-making or turn down, and no evidence that anybody had visited our room during the day. Bathroom appeared to be unheated - discovered the switch to turn the electric radiator/towel heater on was unreachable, about 2.5m high on the wall. Similarly the window blind, with its cord unreachable - we are 'normal'-sized people, although a bit shrunken with old-age.

Disappointing end to stay

Reviewed By Tom M

Had I not had a poor customer experience at the end of our stay I would have given 3 - maybe 4 stars overall. But more on that later. First the good. We were a family of 5 staying 4 nights in the Aviemore hotel. The room was clean and spacious and catered for us all. We went half board at the hotel, eating once in the Italian (food average but pleasant enough) and twice in Aspects (food good - sirloin steak in particular was excellent). Our children are for free and it was reasonably clear from other reviews that the adult fees were subsidised at £25 per head rather than free. The breakfast over the 4 days was consistently good although the black pudding which I normally love was awful. Staff were pleasant throughout our stay although I do wish they would wait until everyone had finished eating before taking plates away. The not so good? The decor in the Aviemore hotel is dated and needs renovation. The place had the feel of being passed it’s prime and needs some TLC. The bar prices were very high for the location (£11 for a glass of red wine, £6.50 a pint and £6 for a whisky is excessive). The awful… when I checked out of the room, I was informed the balance on the room was nil - not surprising to me as I never charge anything to my room. That evening, I checked my credit card and there was a charge of £46.95… Despite sending through a number of emails asking for the basis of these charges I have had nothing back from them so I have no idea why I have been charged. I genuinely do not like giving negative reviews for services. As things stand however I do not recommend staying here
