The best available Resorts to stay near Puerto de la Cruz

April 26, 2023 Fernanda Pittenger

One of Tenerife's top resorts, Puerto de la Cruz is on the north coast of the island. Both Spanish and island traditions are evident in the former fishing village. Its Sardine Festival and annual Carnaval are two highlights of life on the island. Busy, narrow streets of the Old Town, packed with colonial architecture, make walking a safer bet than driving. Popular attractions include Lago Martianez, the casino, Parrot Pool, the Banana Plantation and the Botanical Gardens, which date back to 1788.

My husband and I stayed here for 10days on a half board basis. Initially first impressions were favourable but as the days went by we found more and more faults. Our room had a sea view and tea and coffee making facilities as well as a fridge. The fridge was really old but served its purpose. Our bed was very large and comfortable and clean but the furniture was tired and dirty especially the 2 arm chairs. The food was repetitive and the hot food was barely warm and if you happened to come down to dinner a little late the choice was not good. Breakfast was OK. The towels in the bathroom were thin and not upto the standard of a 4* hotel. The wallpaper is peeling off the wall on floor 4 which surely maintenance staff can see every time they pass. The hotel is in a good position with an impressive lobby but thatsit.. The upside of our stay was the friendly staff who bent over backwards to help you. but we wouldn't stay here again. Overall the hotel is poor for a 4*.

Excellent Location

We stayed here as part of Group with the Travel Department and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was very good. Our package was all inclusive, which was a first for us. The food was very good, buffet style, with a great selection every day and our package included water and wine with our meals. The hotel could probably do with an update but it is very good value. Cleanliness was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a basic room without a balcony but we were facing the front of the hotel (427) and so had a view of the sea and harbour area. The pool area was also lovely and well kept with beautiful trees and plants. The only thing I would comment on was the lack of a fridge in the rooms, but I think they were removed because of Covid? A pity 'cos we could have done with one for holding water.

Fantastic hotel

Cannot fault this hotel. All the staff are very friendly and very helpful. Restaurant is brilliant, huge choice of food, beautifully prepared and presented also great theme nights. Longest queue at the bar was around 2 minutes, huge range of soft and alcoholic drinks available including cocktails. Pool area was always immaculate, always sun beds available even when arriving at the pool mid morning or afternoon! Agree with a previous post, it would have been great to be permitted to use floats in the pool. Rooms are huge with a huge balcony. We overlooked the sea for no extra cost! Maid service was daily and room was always immaculate. The hotel has a fantastic location, right on the beachfront and about 1 minute away from all the shops and bars. We have never been to Tenerife before but have already decided to return. Will definitely come back to this hotel 10/10!

Good Hotel, Good Food, Good Location

The hotel is clean, the staff is nice and helpful and change the towels daily, clean the room daily, change the sheets once in 3 days. The food is decent. It has a swimming pool and sun deck area. The hotel is quiet and we slept perfectly. The rooms are actually a bit bigger than what is shown in the photos. The price is great for what you get. Overall good hotel that is worth the money.

Lovely stay

Reviewed By renatanpreston

We’ve just left this hotel after a week in Tenerife. We had a spacious room with comfortable beds, a balcony with a view of Teide. The hotel is situated in a perfect spot, close to the sea, shops, exchange, restaurants and cafes! We loved the square with the church and many different forms of entertainment. The food was good, enough choices for everyone. We would definitely book it again as it’s full of character and the staff are very nice, especially Jose in the dining room. The pool was appreciated and we used it quite often as felt very private and not overlooked, great spot for sunbathing too. Things to improve: bathroom was a bit dated, nothing wrong with it and perfectly functioned but looked tired. The cleaners missed one day, not sure why but it didn’t matter as we were happy to reuse our towels.

Perfect Holidays

The accomodation in these apartments of Puerto de la Cruz could not be better. We stayed 8 nights and we would have stayed much longer if possible. Starting with the receptionist Daniel who was very accomodating with our requests, he checked us in a very nice apartment, he was nice, efficient and very kind. The apartment had a very nice view with terrace, was well mantained, clean and had all the facilities we needed. Following with the restaurant staff who took well care of us throghout our stay. Aday and Jessica were very nice and efficient taking into account how busy they were all the time. The food was nice, with good variety every day for breakfast and dinner. I appreciatte the fact they were changing the dinner menu every day so for a long stay it would not be boring. We specially liked the salads station as we love salads. About the locations, it is very well located next to playa jardin, literally just in front, with bars and supermarkets nearby and the centre just a 10 minutes walk away. We absolutely loved it and we will be back next year! Thank you!

Average at best if I’m feeling generous. Not worth the money - look elsewhere

We stayed March 2022 in a two bed apartment. Very clean and quite spacious; we were three adults. We didn’t use the kitchen as we ate out. Useful to have fridge and washing machine. Parking was easy, either in the free car park or on the roadside nearby. I like the key pad entry for late arrival. Nice to have a pool even though it’s quite small and not many sun loungers. Enough for off season but I imagine it’s not enough in the summer or when the apartments are busier. Nice to have a balcony to sit on. Lovely view of the mountain from our apartment. Some restaurants are an easy 5-10 min walk from the apartment and it’s about a 30 min walk into the main town; quite uphill on the return walk but doable! Negative points: apartment was quite tricky to find in the dark late at night as it wasn’t labelled on the map and tricky to see signs in the dark. Apartment very dated. Very uncomfortable bed with lumpy mattress. Sofa seated two people only but the apartment slept six. Sofa also very very uncomfortable with hard bits poking out when you sit on it. Not enough towels given for bathroom use and swimming pool use. You’re not informed beforehand to bring a swimming towel. We had an unexpected linen change mid week (it stated we wouldn’t get one) and even fewer towels were left after this; just one bath towel each and one hand towel overall. Previously we were given a hand towel and a bath towel each so we just used the hand towel at the pool. Not ideal when it’s a bit chilly! Apartment generally quite cold so towel didn’t dry overnight. Bathroom very dated. Shower curtain in bath for shower (this is dated and not great). Big problem with hot water supply and shower; you either have lukewarm water but enough water to wash in or a dribble of hot water. Not ideal at all. Parts of you that aren’t under the shower water are quite cold as it wasn’t that warm and the apartment is cold and there’s not enough hot water for a steamy bathroom. The bar and restaurant is no longer functioning and are not open. The patio door to the balcony had a large strip falling off it, however we were still able to lock the patio door. One evening there was a lot of noise from other guests: whilst this isn’t the fault of the apartment company, the walls are very thin and you hear a lot of noise from neighbouring apartments: people getting the sofa bed ready every night for example. Not supplied with enough toilet rolls for three people for nine days. A very average apartment in need of modernisation and repair. I left in need of a good hot shower and a comfortable quiet warm night’s sleep - not what holidays are about. For the money, there will be better places to stay in this area. This apartment needs modernising to be worth the money.
