Thanks to Dorothy! She is a very competent Front Office Manager. She gave us a very warm welcome. It was great. Also Thanks to Theo, he is a super concierge and always helped us! The architecture of the hotel is impressive. You feel like you're in a different time. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are large, many rooms face the garden. The price level for overnight stays is very high. You pay much more for a sea view room. The food in the hotel is very good and inexpensive. The hotel is quiet and very centrally located. Great view (lighthouse!). Unfortunately the beach was closed due to the flooding in the area of Durban a month ago. The curry dishes are highly recommended.

An elegant and stylish hotel surrounded by vibrant and casual restaurants. Umhlanga is top modern, has a huge mall in just 5min drive. Directly on the sea with a kilometre-long sandy beach. Just few kilometers up north from Durban. Close to the International Airport. We extended our stay by a few days.

Located at the pulse of Durban’s Golden Mile, the SunCoast Hotel and Towers offers everything a discerning traveller could need: beach views, a casino, excellent service and every modern convenience possible. Unwind on the private pool deck, get a facial at the spa or enjoy a private meal overlooking in the ocean in a luxurious room. This contemporary hotel is Durban’ s ideal getaway spot for all types of travellers.
Right from check-in it was not a great experience. Reception staff was too slow and not courteous. We had to pay an additional fee per day to park our car in the hotel premises. Only two small lifts in one corner of the hotel to cater to so many rooms. It was quite a walk from the lift to the room. The passage was very narrow and had a weird smell of the carpets. Room was too small and dingy. Felt suffocated. Breakfast was below average. Very limited choice of food. Most of the food tasted bad. Overall not at all worth the money paid.

Radiating energy and elegance across the Golden Mile, Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani invites you to take your place in the sun. From the stylish bedrooms with breath-taking sea-views to the variety of restaurants and recreation facilities, visitors can look forward to the vibrancy, colour and culture of Durban's premier hotel destination offering more choice than ever before, from service and hospitality through to accommodation and dining. Absolutely everything under one sun!
I would unfortunately not recommend this hotel. Rooms are dated, and feel unclean. I was there during a very cold time and there was no heating option on the aircon in the entire hotel. The windows don't close completely so the wind was whistling in, i was offered an upgrade but the offered room was bigger (thetefore colder). Shower is in the tub with a shower curtain. I checked out after an hour of checking in and moved hotels for my stay in the Durban region.

A contemporary interior design of fusing water features. The colours and textures of natural reed, sets the mood of the newly opened Garden Court uMhlanga. This hotel is ideally situated in uMhlanga Rocks. Within close proximity to the Gateway Shopping Centre and popular uMhlanga beaches. The hotel offers spacious guest areas with business and internet facilities to cater for business travelers. The hotel boasts a lush courtyard that offers guests a heated pool with a play-ledge for young children to enjoy. The gym facility on the 5th floor will ensure that health fanatics are also catered for.
The location is good within the Gateway precinct, which is convenient. Rooms are standard for the type of hotel. When fully occupied during high season it can be quite noisy. Staff and service are average. Nothing above the minimum one would expect.

This was always our centre of choice for our conference but this time it was not great. The hotel needs a serious revamp. Tiles are cracked, paint peeling and there were insufficient towels. At best we had a hand towel to use and that was all. The restaurant was expensive but had a great variety . The saving feature was the friendly staff
