This place is great

Reviewed By Critter3

We stayed here for 4 nights on a recent road trip to the Anaheim/Carlsbad/San Diego area. We had the 2 room suite with the King bed and couch pullout. I remember trying to find a place to stay in the area and was initially looking at a BW because that is my typical place of stay. I booked early (cancellable) and I am not sure if I got great rated but overall I think the rates were similar, in not better, than the BW I was looking at...and I am so glad I found this one. There is a $28 resort fee, but it is worth it, especially since that includes parking and if you are visiting Legoland they have a $25 parking fee. Also it is underground so they aren't just charging to park your car in front of the hotel. So it is a wash PLUS you get all the extras this place provides, like the multiple pools and hot tubs, arcade area, table tennis, basketball, foosball, a toddler jungle gym area, AND an activity center where you can sign up for fun things like painting, etc. The grounds are great and the rooms were clean and comfortable. No issues there. We came from Anaheim and called at about 8am to see if we could potentially check in early or at least leave our bags at the front desk. They said that it will depend when we get there whether there would be room for the baggage, but likely would, and would let us know when we got there if we could check-in early. When we arrived they let us know that we could check in immediately, so that was nice. In all the places we stayed (8 hotels before this) this was the only place that had a little towel animal on the bed waiting for us. Yes it is simple, but it's little stuff like that which starts your stay off right. They also provide a microwavable popcorn and hot chocolate! Little things that go a long way. The room we had was a full kitchen which was great for a lengthy stay. It was fully furnished including dish soap, dishwasher tabs, etc. During our stay we were notified at checkin that they would be swapping out the curtains. They did this while we were gone. Also during one day (~8pm) we had a maintenance person ask to change out the air filter. He was very nice and it didn't bother us at all, but maybe for some this knock on the door wouldn't be welcome. We did have an issue that later turned out not to be an issue and was our fault, ha ha. After the first night our door was ajar and was only held by the chain. We were sure we locked the deadbolt but felt uneasy that someone may have tried to enter the room. I walked and talked to the front desk and they showed immediate concern. They had someone scan the door lock to see if someone had a non-hotel approved card, but it only showed that our card was used. They kept in contact with me through text while we were at Legoland. They said they wanted to ensure we felt safe and they were great. However...our young daughter later explained that she had woken up from a nightmare and on her way to our bed, had gotten confused and opened the front door! So it was just her all along, ha ha. But in that situation I felt the hotel did a great job of ensuring we were, and felt, safe. We were able to only take advantage of the kids pool area on one night. The pool is heated and is big, so that was really nice. However, note that the splash park area is not, so it was cold. It would be nice on a hot day, but we stayed out of it during the evening. The hotel had toys to use and there was plenty of spots for lounging and lots of towels. Also, about 1/3rd of the pool was at like the 3' deep mark which I loved, because it allowed my young daughter to move around freely (she cannot swim yet). So that was nice because usually at hotel pools the pools is always too deep for the young ones. This allowed my daughter to play in the pool while I watched from the hot tub and I didn't need to be right by her side at every moment. Overall this place is great and I will definitely stay here again, and have no problem recommending it to others going on a Legoland trip.

I stayed at this property in 2015 and again 5/22. There really isn’t much negative about this place. It’s clean, being off the beaten track a bit makes external noise non-existent, the staff is friendly and there is plenty of parking. I did find that my bed frame was weak. It allowed the mattress to move significantly and was noisy. The other bed in the room was okay. The bedding was fine but towels were thin. There was no lobby coffee at 5:30 am. Having a fridge and microwave is handy. The TV was modern and had a good picture. I had no noise issues from adjacent rooms, which says a lot as the place was full. Best of all it’s 10 minutes from the beach and 8 minutes from any other food or gas you would want.

This used to be our go-to hotel in the Carlsbad area. This was our first visit since the pandemic began and unfortunately, the hotel has gone far downhill, so much so that I can't see staying here again in the future. Overall the staff was friendly and accommodating, but some of them not so much. There was a mix up with our room and the staff rectified it pretty easily (thank you), but I might have been caught sooner had their email system been working. I made two reservations and never received confirmation of either, I called them several times to let them know the emails were not coming through but nothing was done about it (yes I am sure it did not go to spam), and other confirmations I made for a return trip to the area for a different hotel came through just fine. The carpets, both in the lobby and in the rooms is filthy. Looks like it has never been cleaned. There were fingerprints on everything in the room. The towels felt like sand paper, they had that hang dried feeling, not as if they were put in the dryer, they were not fluffy at all. The sheets on the pull out sofa bed actually had holes in them. Also, upon check in the attendant indicated that our room would be cleaned a couple of days after we arrived. I assumed we could request more frequent service but when we did so, we were told that the room would ONLY be cleaned one day. After a bit of back and forth the staff relented. They said this rule was due to covid, but none of the hotel staff were wearing masks. If this is going to be your policy please let me know when the reservation is being made, not during check in. I would have booked a reservation elsewhere had I known this. This is not acceptable for a 4 night stay and I have stayed at other hotels in the area that are fully servicing rooms in the last year. Also, the front and back parking lot was nearly empty our entire stay and I saw very few guests in the hotel. The staff seems overworked, I saw the same 3-4 faces during our entire stay. Calls to the front desk were not answered. Most of the time, we received a call back shortly after except for one morning when no one answered the phone, so we walked to the front desk to find the person on duty asleep. The safe in the room was broken and the front desk attendant did not know how to re-set it. There were some pros - the king sized beds are still the most comfortable hotel beds I have slept in, they still serve breakfast, the hotel is in a nice location and there is a gas station on site. These are nice perks but not enough for us to return to this hotel. So sad to see this place suffer due to poor maintenance and low staff numbers, but we will find other accommodations when we come back to Carlsbad. We visit at twice once per year for around ten years at this point.

It’s probably a great place if you’re bringing a family. We were looking for a relaxing escape, but couldn’t get that. We tried eating at the restaurant Vue, but the smell was completely unacceptable. We tried moving to their other restaurant, Bob, but they couldn’t accommodate us. It was missing the cat-piss aroma of Vue, but also didn’t seem very high end with a high percentage of customers under the age of 10. I would try someone else if you’re looking for relaxation.

The Sheraton is an ideal family hotel. Our suite had a king bed and a separate bedroom with two twins. The hotel is immediately adjacent to the Westin (whose facilities are available to Sheraton guests), a golf course and Legoland. The bed was comfortable and it was very quiet after 10:00 p.m. The room was adequately appointed; not a five-star resort by any stretch, but comfortable. The fitness center is small and minimal. The pool is a nice size and the slide is popular with the kids. Note that as of this writing, the hotel does not provide daily housekeeping service. The hotel is a little over a mile from the beach. Plentiful free parking close to the rooms is a plus.
