The best available Ranches to stay near Northern Norway

April 29, 2023 Terina Blouin

Home to both the midnight sun (with constant daylight from April to July) and the northern lights, North Norway is a rugged land of steep mountains, deep fjords and scenic coastline, making it a great place for outdoor adventures like dog sledding, snowmobiling and wildlife safaris. It's also the ancient home of the Sami people, 3,000 of whom live (along with 100,000 reindeer) at Kautokeino, Norway's largest municipality at over 3,700 square miles.

Statles Rorbu- og Konferansesenter

You find our hotel resort in the heart of the Lofoten Islands, in picturesque Mortsund harbor. In a place where fishermen once spent the season in rorbuer built at the water’s edge you will treat yourself to a truly authentic Lofoten experience. Our cabins offer up to three bedrooms and feature ensuite bathrooms and kitchenettes. Ask for a private balcony. You can catch your meal right at your doorsteps or book dinner at our restaurant. Mt. Middagstinden waits for you to enjoy the sensational view over our bay. Leknes airport is within reach, and so is the Hurtigruten stop at Stamsund harbor (20 minutes each). Popular destinations on the Vestvågøy island – such as the Haukland and Unstad beaches, Mt. Skottinden or the Viking Museum are just a stone’s throw away.

Amazing location by Vestfjorden

Statles Rorbuer are newly built flats, basically, with a great location around 20 mins drive from Leknes. Great area for hiking, fishing and the general Lofoten experience. We had a great rorbu with outdoor seating, two bedrooms, two baths and a living room with a kitchen section. A bit surprising that they only provide 4 glasses, 4 plates etc - means you will need to do dishes or run the dishwasher if you stay more than one night. But everything was clean and check-in fast.

A Day to Remember

Reviewed By charlescharlie2

As we left Hamsun Center and were looking for another attraction in the neighborhood, Tranøy came to mind as Hamsun had a summer job there and stayed there for a little while, there`s even a tiny musuem in town dedicated to him, we passed it, but my main interest was Tranøy lighthouse. I didn`t regret visiting it, on a drizzly and foggy day it gave the place an eerie feeling, but the warmth of the caretaker and the staff soon overwhelmed us and made us feel at home. Lunch was good in the restaurant, although was nearly empty, but the caretaker and the girls were gearing up for a busy summer season ahead. The lady was kind enough to spare us a little while from her busy schedule for a guided tour up the tower. All in all it was a very splendid time spent at the lighthouse, and would have liked to see it midsummer , maybe another visit is looming soon...

Beautiful camping with very good sanitary facilities

Reviewed By Flurin_CH

We stayed for one night in a tent (250 NOK + electricity). Facilities are new, very clean and spacious. In addition the two washing machines, two dryers and all the showers are free of charge. At the moment the campground is under construction but you can still find a nice and quite place to stay. They are expanding and building more houses and camp sites / RV sites. It was definitely one of the best campgrounds we stayed during our vacation in Norway!

Lovely hosts but really quiet surroundings

Reviewed By TravelGirlLovingAus

Tine and Morg are really lovely hosts who are willing to help you with anything. Tine cooked dinner for us one night (reindeer) which was really tasty. Also very lovely that she wanted to do that because they were also having a bunch of local kids over for camp. The house is super big! Too big for two people actually. The shower however was very small and we missed the blackout curtains in our bedroom. Considering the sun doesn't set this time of year it would have been nice to have them. Couch in the living room is not too comfortable and neither are the beds. The locations is very middle of nowhere. Half an hour drive from Hattfjelldal. This makes it nice and quiet but there is also nothing to do in the vicinity. 3 nights therefore felt like a bit too much for us. The nearby national park is not suited for inexperienced hikers which is a shame (but my fault because I didn't look it up beforehand - I just assumed there would be stuff to do around the area).
