Such a comfortable trip!

This is my first time enjoying onsen in Kyoto. The host is very kind and friendly. From Kyoto station, you need to get on Kawaramachi line to Kokusaikakan station theb get off and take bus #16-17-19 heading to ohara station. From here you can call to the host and ask for free shuttle bus which will bring you on the endline. I had arrived to Ohara station so late due to delay of flight at around 8.30 PM. However, i still get chance to ride on shuttle bus and enjoy my trip. The atmosphere is very quiet and comfortable. Highly recommended!

Good stay, kind and helpful owner

Reviewed By Saranger

Spent one night here before heading to Tanabe to begin the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage. Owner picked us up at the airport and then gave us a short orientation drive around the area including a scenic view. He pointed out the grocery store, bus station, beach area, etc. A minshuku is a homestay, essentially. Nice people, but heavy smokers. If you don't like cigarette smoke, this will be a problem. Once we were in our room (#3) we no longer smelled the smoke. The wifi works downstairs. There's a TV room and a dining room with fridge and water kettle for guest use. Japanese-style (squat) toilets on 2nd floor. Western toilet on first floor. Room was traditional tatami mat with futons. Very comfortable and quiet. I like the small koi pond in the courtyard with tanuki figure! Onsens (bath) are on the ground floor and segregated by sex. Tub is sized for one person and is hot mineral spring water. This isn't a hotel so some things that would be replaced or repaired quickly in a 5* hotel aren't addressed in a home. If you want a 5* hotel, there's a Marriott in town. If a traditional Japanese homestay is more your speed, you'll likely be comfortable here (smoke smell aside). Location is prime for visiting nearby beaches and also the Minakata Kumagusu Museum (highly recommended). Bus station about 5 minutes walk away.

Azukiya

Azukiya is a small family run B&B. Situated in the historical area of Higashiyama. We aim to make everybody feel like they are at home. All rooms are decorated in traditional Kyoto style. We have 2 rooms and a rental townhouse. All rooms have private bath room. Rooms can accommodate 2-5 persons. This January we fully renewed the bathroom downstairs. It is now both convenient and completely private.

Amazing stay and fantastic host

Reviewed By Jwatts87

My partner and mother-in-law stayed at Azukiya for 4 nights in March. We stayed in the self-contained apartment next door. We had a great stay. Really charming, traditional but comfortable. A little chilly, but plenty of heaters and air conditioners to warm the place up. Location is convenient - close to subway. Stairs are pretty steep, so keep in mind if you have mobility issues. Cheiko made a delicious breakfast each morning. My mother is celiac, and Cheiko went to great effort to create an amazing gluten-free breakfast each morning. She really went above and beyond. Overall would highly recommend.

Lovely Stay

Reviewed By ccbct

We stayed two nights in this quiet and peaceful ryokan. Yoko is so kind and helpful, full of recommendations for places to eat and visit (and how to get there!). She really is the most gracious host. We had the Japanese breakfast both mornings which was amazing - beautifully presented, delicious and quite filling. The room we stayed in on the top floor was spacious and spotless and the bed was super comfortable. Thank you, Yoko, for a memorable stay in beautiful Kyoto!

Gallery Nozawa Inn

Bestest homestay experience in Japan. Ever.

Reviewed By 17CLim

Our family of 5 has visited japan more than a dozen times. Our stay with Morio and Yoshiko is the bestest ever. Their quaint and historic ryokan is ancient with just enough modern comforts to create a perfect balance of old and new. Our room and shared toilet are clean and comfortable. We rested like babies at night. The gregarious couple took such great care of us; they were like the elders in the family who fussed over our well-being, they were the first to greet us in the morning and stayed up every night to receive us home without fail, enquired about our day, cooked us a variety of delectable food for breakfast in the morning, even took care of our laundry and daily housekeeping. There were different pastries and warm tea waiting for us every night. Love everything about them - ever so very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. They really are the best hosts and we are so privileged to have met and stayed with them. Gonna miss them and while we hope they will retire soon and enjoy their golden years, the energy and life which they bring / breathe into their cosy, immaculate and warm abode sustain and rejuvenate both hosts and guests alike; anyone would be so very lucky to stay with them in the days to come. Thank you, Morio and Yoshiko, from the bottom of our hearts!

Great place to stay before sunrise in Tekeda Castle

Reviewed By NoPlaceLkeHome

Choose this place on account of it's proximity to Takeda castle, was pleasantly surprised by the sweet owner and great food. The food - was the best we had in an accommodation during our 3 weeks in Japan. The owner - was so nice and went out of her way to make us happy. She does not speak much English, but enough to provide details on how to get the castle or the viewpoint across the valley and when is the best time to visit. After dinner she dressed us up in colorful yukatas, to complete our japanese experience (-: Not much else to do in Asago after dinner. When we woke up, before dawn, some flash lights were waiting for us to use. The location - about 15 minutes drive from takeda castle. We arrived by car and parked in their parking space. I don't think there is a problem getting a taxi, as we saw quite a few going up to the castle in the early morning. The place - is a traditional ryakon - sleep on the floor kind of place. shared bathroom, but not an issue as you can lock the door for private use. It is a bit run down (faded, spotty carpets). but the owner's hospitality and the great food make up for it.
