The lodge was in a good location, easy walking distance to the lifts and general store. It was clean and good value for money. The free wifi wasn’t very strong. It would be good if there was a communal lounge area. We travelled as a group and spent most time at the lodge in our room. It was good to get discount vouchers to the local onsen and also a free sake tasting at the museum.

Stayed here end Jan 2020 with a bunch of 9 other friends. Did a quad share room and had enough space for 3 girls and 1 guy. Futons are basic with one buckwheat pillow - warm but you could definitely feel the tatami underneath. If you like solid beds this is good, if you want a cushy bed you would hate it. There was no room service at all - ie no trash clearing / bed making / any form of cleaning. Building heating was great most of the time I was okay in a Tshirt and shorts, and sometimes we even had to open the window cuz it was too warm. Food is extremely basic - we had the exact same breakfast 5 days in a row. It’s not bad not great. Toilets and shared sink are clean... that’s all. Shared bathroom is small and therefore extremely stifling after everyone’s had a steamy bath. Using the public onsens isn’t really an immediate alternative as it’s super difficult to walk on steep snowy roads to get there. When it gets a bit warm the area in front of the hotel gets slushy and the slush can go up to your shins. When we stayed there were no Japanese staff - it was completely manned by Taiwanese on some kind of working holiday, so the service level was a bit disconcerting for a Japan experience, but they were young and generally happy to oblige any requests. It was kind of a hostel-y vibe so we could stay up till about 1030 in the communal area/ restaurant and drink and laugh loudly and it was okay. Ski in ski out access was super convenient, but if we come back we’d probably stay somewhere else.
