The 750 square Kilometers Kinabalu Park was converted into a National Park in 1964 for its geographical importance and the abundance of flora and fauna. In December 2006, UNESCO awarded Kinabalu Park as Malaysia's first World Heritage Site for its "outstanding universal values" and its role as one of the most important biological sites in the world. Located 1,585 metres above sea level, Kinabalu Park showcases a complete and interesting ecological system unrivaled anywhere else in the world. It also carries lowland, mountain and alpine vegetation that are not seen anywhere else between the Himalayas and the New Guinea. Kinabalu Park also plays host to the annual Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon event, proclaimed as the "World's Toughest Mountain Race" and attracts top mountain racers from around the world.
I just bought an expensive Skechers shoes for travelling and also as my birthday gift to myself. It's like a self-reward to me after my hard work. I landed in KK and drove to KK right away on the same day and checked in to Hill Lodge during the evening when the rain starts pouring. It was a very tiring journey. I have many luggage as I am travelling with a baby. When I am picking up the luggage into the room, I forgot to bring my shoes together into the room because as a Malay, we rarely bring shoes inside our house. I left it at the verandah exactly near the door for a while. After some minutes, I take my shoes in but it was torn into pieces. My newly bought Skechers was torn into pieces! I was just about to begin my holiday but it was already spoiled. And then at 11 PM, some dogs (5-6 dogs) brawled and keep barking at each other just beside my room. My baby was awakened by the barking and starts wailing. We were also awakened by the noises and struggled to contact the counter as they are closed after 10 pm. To contact the manager, we need to search her number through their website. After 20minutes, a security guard comes and shoos the dogs away. It was a terrible experience and no one comes comforting us or saying sorry about it. It was a really awful experience. I am okay with the old furniture, poor facilities etc, but not this. I never expected SSL to be this terrible because it has many chains of businesses. But it is. I really don't recommend you guys to stay here. The only good thing is, the food is quite nice. That's all. To SSL, please install a fence at the verandah so that the dogs will not loiter around the verandah.

Mile 36 Lodge is sited in an attractive location, steps away from the border to the Mount Kinabalu National Park. Stayers enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kinabalu in the front lawn of the Lodge. The grounds of the Lodge are larger than most lodges and it is a peaceful nature retreat. Within the compound, one can stroll amidst many flowering scrubs and hear the melodious strains of the birds. Sited at an altitude of 1,500m, the air is cool, between 18°C to 25°C. Mile 36 Lodge is a great place for leisure, gatherings, rest point as you do bird and flower watching activities.
Booked double standard room on the lower floor with mountain view. Require to carry baggage and walk a distance down a narrow steps before reach room. Back to nature. No fan, aircond, tv in the room. But very cold weather. Steps sound from upper floor is very loud.night time may have insects (flies, spiders, bugs) as visitor. No electricity for 2 hours during stay.

Stayed at River Lodge, that was the only unit available at that time to accommodate our family. Lodge is really near to the river and surrounded with trees, shade and damp environment. 2 BR both with huge bathroom and balconies. There is no aircond in the living room and no pantry. Master bedroom direct view to the river downhill. 2nd br view is the road. No wifi during our stay due to line problem according to the staff. There's always room for some maintenance or renovation and a small pantry corner would be nice too ? . staff were nice and service was excellent. extra bed for rm70 each. next time we will book the bigger units, palm villa. price not that much different. oh yes 1 more thing, you need to do something with the aircond inside the master bedroom, the wall was vibrating and remote not functioning at all.

Basic but great little place to say. Owners are super friendly and helpful and will drop you to the springs! Both speak good English and will do all they can to help you enjoy your stay...can’t speak highly enough of them. Rooms are compact with extra small basic shower room but good value for money and very relaxing location.

Situated at the heart of Kundasang, at the foot of Mount Kinabalu, Nabalu Lodge prides itself on offering Clean, Comfortable and Convenient accommodation. The lodge is located within kundasang town with easy access to the markets, local attractions and of course its wholesome cafe, Nabalu Cafe, serving a wide selection of food from western to asian dishes. Additional note: Come and check out the recently launched, Cocoa Nabalu, Nabalu Lodge's first chocolate shop!
We revisited the property because of the location just a week apart. First time the price was rm100, then a week after that rm135 including breakfast. They do not have option to exclude the breakfast. When I inquired about the breakfast, the front desk showed me their menu with wide range of breakfast but the next morning, we were given a coupon to tick one of 5 choices, 2 of which were not available. Choices were bad, food was bad, all in all - rm35 breakfast for 2 was not worth it. You could find a better tasting options in the town which is just a walking distance. They will ask for deposit. First time, the deposit was rm50, then they increased it to rm100 a week later. So, I am not sure how long this review will stand correct when it comes to the amount of deposit they actually required. Telephone was not working (which they change for us), TV was not working (which they couldn't do much because they haven't applied for Astro), room slightly dusty, flooring makes sound when you walk, so you might need to tiptoe if someone is sleeping, the garden table at the balcony could be hazardous simply because they failed to adhere to the law of physics, and when you thought it couldn't go worse, the next day we had a very noisy guests with kids running and shouting as early as 6am in the morning. Apart of the location, I don't think I would rate this property as good value for the money.

My wife and I viewed online before booking and from the photos it looked like a good enough place for one night. After checking in we were horrified and my wife wanted to abandon our booking and find somewhere, anywhere else. At the last minute we couldn’t find anything else so put up with the following: The door stuck upon opening. It had a plank of wood attached from presumably being forced or previously broken. The room smelled musty The floor was filthy. We opted to wear out outdoor shoes when moving around The bedding had stains and felt damp (not cold as is expected in Kundasang - I’m from Scotland and know the difference between damp and cold). It also smelled musty. The leatherette headboard was covered in stains and was filthy. I dampened a tissue and wipes to show how bad it was. The walls were badly plastered and painted with wall paint over the skirting boards. The walls had numerous large stains. The towels were stained and very worn. Holes in them and I’ve had thicker napkins. The balcony door glass had not been cleaned in a long time. It was in any case covered in A4 paper setting out various “rules”. There were numerous dead bugs behind the papers. When my wife opened the balcony doors, the bug screen fell out onto the balcony. The balcony door didn’t lock (we were ground floor) The two “chairs” were out on the balcony and were old plastic patio chairs which had degraded so much to be brittle. One was already snapped. The “room slippers” were from different pairs and were disgusting. The bathroom ventilation seemed to be via the numerous holes in the ceiling. The shower riser rail fell off the wall when I tried to adjust it. The bathroom tap was loose so moved in its mount when we tried to use it. We didn’t dare use the water kettle I’m sure there were other issues I’ve forgotten but from the above, I can state that out of the hundreds of hotels, hostels and camping sites I’ve stayed at, this place is in my worst five.

It is a roadside hotel located within walking distance to Kinabalu park. I loved the beds - they are very comfy! And the staff were kind and helpful. There's a restaurant, a terrace overlooking the beautiful foot of Mount Kinabalu, a parking area and a garden. I highly recommend this hotel!
