A privately owned property. Lodges were very clean and comfortable. The owner known as Mr Meremeta was very nice and extremely helpful who sorted our everything from pick up to excursions and drop off for us,a party of 6. Food was freshly cooked and very nice. The dining/ sitting area was very airy and gardens were well maintained. Snorkelling was amazing with a huge variety of fish and beautiful corals.

Simply Saadani Camp (formerly Tent With A View safari lodge), Saadani National Park is in a remote and secluded location on the Indian Ocean coast, around a 4 hour drive north of Dar es-Salaam. The emphasis is on relaxing and enjoying the natural environment of Saadani National Park. Tanzania's only coastal wildlife preserve, Saadani is a unique combination of safari & beach. The deserted sandy beach is perfect for beachcombing, and the clear sea is safe for swimming. There are just 11 beachfront tented rooms (or "bandas") including 3 family suites with en suite bathrooms and solar powered hot water and electric lighting. Each banda has a large private balcony with a hammock. In the immediate vicinity of the lodge there are several guided nature trails, canoe rides and a wildlife research centre.
Simply Saadani is a hidden gem located on an amazing deserted beach. The accommodation consists of luxury tents on stilts offering a fantastic view and a fresh breeze from the Ocean. We really appreciated the ecological approach and the consistency in trying to minimize the environmental footprint. No diesel generators huffing and puffing as electricity and water heating is solar powered. Camp Manager John and the entire team provide excellent service and everything is very well organised, its clean and the food is delicious. Swimming is great when it is high tide, as it is very shallow, and there are hardly any corals or rocks in the water. They have prepared a few well marked trails and you can go bush walking on your own. Since there is no light pollution at all, it is a perfect place for star gazing. The camp is located just north of Madete Gate, Sadaani NP, about four hours drive from Dar es Salaam. It is Simply the Perfect Retreat for the weekend or for longer stays. We are looking forward to coming back!

Kisampa is set in a pristine, wild area in eastern Tanzania. The region is filled with ox-bow lakes, riverine forests, open grassland, wild rolling hills and steep ridges that provide breath taking views of the surrounding areas. The diverse habitat makes it a birders paradise. Wildlife is shy but increasing with the protection now provided in the sanctuary. This is a private community conservation sanctuary adjacent to the unique coastal Saadani National Park. Situated on a remote hilltop with a vista of the plains below, Kisampa is a special place. So special, in fact, that some of the AfrikaAfrika team live here permanently! Kisampa is the ultimate bush retreat - a place where you can turn off from all the stress, pressure and noise. This place has been brilliant for yoga retreats, personal meditation and simply the ultimate place to wind down. This is furthermore a birders paradise and Kisampa has a few secluded birding platforms where you can spend the day relaxing and watching some of east Africa's finest bird life. We also pride ourselves here with divine "country style" lunches of freshly baked bread from our brick oven, hearty soups and salads along fresh seasonal fruit for desert. Here we offer you a personal journey, an experience full of meaning - not just another destination. We will lead you on a superb exploration that will take you into the heart of this amazing little piece of Africa. Because it's our own sanctuary, you won't bump into other safari-goers anywhere on Kisampa. We keep your experience intimate and personal. This is an adventure that will get you thinking. It will stretch your mind (just as much as your legs) and Africa will get under your skin. Welcome to Kisampa - Where Africa awakens your soul!
After a long trip from Lushoto along some bumpy African roads, we stood outside our hut and, in the light of the setting sun, we watched a family of Colobus monkeys leaping through the trees. Kisampa is a beautiful haven in the middle of the bush, and staying there is a dream - you can see wildlife up close (but not too close!), the beds are the best in Tanzania, and Bori and his team are very attentive. Our favourite moments include watching the fire in the evenings under the stars, and having a bush shower in the open air. The food is delicious and the beer is very cold! We would definitely recommend the early morning walk to the watering hole - you may not see the animals but you'll certainly hear them, and Omari will keep you safe from any marauding buffalo! We would love to stay again, out of the eight hotels we've stayed in in Tanzania, this is my firm favourite.

I wish I could give this place a better review but I cannot. I really like the guys we talked to and there is no question about their helpfulness or kindness. We ate dinner here one of our first nights on the island. It was good but too small fish portions for the price we payed. Then there was a confusion with our hotel and we lacked a place to stay and all the budget options on the island outside the marine park was booked. After many ifs and buts it turned out that one of juanis guests cancelled so we could get their room. Arriving with no choice really we got their last room. They said the price were 60 usd / night but we got a 'special price' 50 usd. The next day I saw that booking.com had 50 usd as normal price for the same kind of room. The bathroom stank awfully. I haven't smelled such a smell before, so I don't know if it was sewage or mold, but it was deeply unpleasant. The bed was rock hard and very difficult to sleep on. The fan hardly worked and didn't really help with the heat. The breakfast was ok. The same as everywhere else. Fruit, pancakes and eggs with tea or coffee. Also we had left our divelogs in Utende for our dive company to sign and stamp and they were to leave them at the hotel at 08.30 the day after (that turned out to be full even though we had booked) so we arranged with juani's to have a driver pick them up and get them for us. We asked all morning and the information was, no dive logs. After 2 hours and 5000 tanzanian shilling later, we walked to the hotel ourselves and found that they were there and had been since 08.30. I don't know what we payed the 5000 shilling for. We ended up going back to the hotel, that had made a mistake, the day after, getting a much better room, without unpleasant smells, for halfthe price compared to juani, with aircon but not on the beach. For us, bad value for money and a room that we slept horribly in due to odour, a rock hard bed and a barely working fan. If you book here 99% of the price is for the beach location and not any comfort.

Like a small jewel in the Selous vicinity, near Mloka village; this lodge offers a breathtaking view of the Rufiji River which runs just few meters away from the Lodge’s edge. Selous Mapumziko Lodge has 7 well finished Mud-Bandas (typical village mud houses), 3 standard tents, 1 family standard tent and a wide campsite with a kitchen, toilet facilities, & camping fire place where you can enjoy some stories in the evening as you enjoy your favorite local beer or wine. Each Banda has a very specious room area with a bathroom with flush toilet and running water. The roof is made of local grass allowing the Banda interior to have a cool temperature all day and night long. The drive from Dar es Salaam to Selous Mapumziko Lodge takes about 5 to 6 hours covering 230 kms. (150 km on tarmac and 80 km on rough but well maintained road). It takes ONLY less than 20 minutes from the lodge to Mtemere Southward Gate.
This comes late but worth the mention. In January this year I and other business associates planned a trip to Southern Tanzania and one of our stops was at the Selous. We organised the trip with Philbert and our first 3 days we set base at the Selous Mapumziko Lodge. We stayed at the nice new tents with views over the great and mighty Rufiji river. We were well taken care of with great meals as we explores the Selous Game Reserve. This was one very rainy period but the warmth and hospitable staff at the camp kept us well fed and warm during the rainy nights as we sat by the fireplace. This was my first trip south of Tanzania and we will sure be returning once all this is over.

We had a very nice stay here, rooms are nice and pretty big, restaurant area is really nice. With only a few of the rooms booked, food choice wasn't the best, although the quality was fine. Later in the week, with more rooms booked, it changed into a buffet style, with a lot more choices in food. Most people that stayed here seem to be there for diving, as there is not a lot more to do. During our stay at the start of march, we did see turtle hatching and a whale shark, although for whale sharks it seems better to go earlier in the season. Overall we really liked our stay here, the staff is really friendly and made us feel at home.

Tucked away in the backstreets of Bagamoyo., off main roads and access not easy. We are adventurous but walking around this area we felt vulnerable, high Moslem population. Small rooms 10ft x 10ft nice with AC, but not very clean, dead cockroaches under bed, live ones crawling on mozzy net and they got into shoes, bags etc. no wifi, the restaurant couldn't find a menu, had to place evening meal order at lunchtime so they could go looking for ingredients, chicken is available probably because guy across street is selling it. limited choice of soda, 4 bottles, a few beers and wines. Freezer filthy and open, hopefully for cleaning and restocking but who knows. Kitchen small and not very clean from what we saw. Nowhere to sit out, the only available area is in the restaurant but that is not really comfortable on dining chairs. One chair and small table in the room, two hangers in open wardrobe. Sat in restaurant nobody asked if we wanted any drinks, staff eating supper, one cooking in kitchen. Food arrived, fish over cooked n dry without any sauce, asked for cold drinks told that drinks fridge was not turned on, please wait ten minutes so we can put it in kitchen freezer. It is 29C here what are they thinking. We asked for serviettes or napkins, yes we have, let me go and bring! Had to ask for the drinks again then request glasses. We Requested that the manager sort out wifi as per the hotel details and we would stay, we were told he was not going to install wifi, maybe we could reduce the bill. Staff seemed uninterested and that we were an inconvenience. Paid for first night, left in the morning for better place. Would not recommend the Barcelona Lodge unless the only available place left in town.
