Selina is located in the middle of Tena and Misahualli a small village nearby with a more laidback jungle vibe than Tena. Here, you will be surrounded by wildlife, rapids, and the sights and sounds of the jungle on all sides. Your neighbors may be the famous monkeys that live in town! Selina is one of the few places in town that can boast consistent WiFi. Stop by for a drink or healthy snack at our in-house restaurant, stay in one of our community rooms, privates, or suites, and admire the art from local talent gracing the walls of our friendly, comfortable home, whitewater rafting, kayaking, jungle trekking and more: Tena has everything for explorers. This town is the gateway to the Amazon and has lots of activities to kick your trip off right.
It’s really hard to believe the many good reviews for this place. I like adventure travel, but this is the wrong sort of adventure. Facilities are spartan, staff are indifferent and even the placement of the property, on an empty and ugly stretch of river defies explanation. Avoid!

Getting to Anaconda Lodge Ecuador is to discover the nature, jungle, the world that was born on a sea of fresh water. Today, we want to show and tell all the adventures of a region that refuses to be changed.Native peoples with their beliefs, myths, legends and knowledge. Rainforests still present in all its forms, rivers flowing from the Andes are headed to the Atlantic Ocean loaded with sediments and tannins that irrigate these clay soils.Share with us experiences by visiting these awesome places, native houses, primary rainforest, jungle in constant evolution, and in daily conversations, discover how it was born the "lungs of the world", who were the ancestral groups that inhabited these parts as the Western men is changing. We are on an island in the midst of the mighty Napo River and its beautiful tributaries, we are in the jungle, we are returning into the past with modern comforts, with a varied cuisine that combines perfectly the traditional local and international dishes, an excellent bar, tours with native guides and many other activities. In other words, a cultural tourism on behalf of ecology, native peoples and in close contact with nature.Welcome to your home in the Ecuadorian Amazon!
As our time in Ecuador comes to an end, Anaconda lodge has been the highlight of our time in this beautiful country. The lodge itself is beautiful, the rooms are very clean and the daily room service is comparable to that of a 5* hotel. There are no glass windows, instead there are screens which allow you to listen to the sounds of the jungle and feel at one with nature. The rooms are very private still despite this. The communal area is beautifully decorated and homely and the whole lodge has a calming and peaceful atmosphere. Fast Wi-Fi is available in the communal spaces which is practically unheard of in this part of the Amazon! The food was local and fresh and all made from scratch in the kitchen. We are vegetarian and this was catered for with no problems. The food was delicious and very plentiful with 3 large meals a day! The service was impeccable. We really enjoyed all of the activities including walks through the primary jungle, tubing down the river, visiting a local medicinal plants garden and seeing how chocolate is made by a local family. We saw countless types of birds and insects along with monkeys. We also had the chance to visit a local butterfly farm which was beautiful! The local guides were incredibly knowledgable and were able to teach us about some of the plants and wildlife. They had an amazing eye for spotting wildlife and took our experience to the next level. Francisco and Silvia are wonderful hosts who went out of their way to help us and showed great kindness. Their passion for the local people and their surrounding environment really shows and it was refreshing to see. We would 100% recommend the Anaconda lodge to anyone who is interested in a relaxing and educational experience in the Amazon that is removed from mainstream tourism.

We have just returned from a 3 day/2 night stay at Huasquila. We were exhausted and needed somewhere to rest. Huasquila is close enough to Quito that we could travel easily. But it is a different world! What a lovely and rejuvenating time we had there. The staff couldn't have been more attentive. The food was delicious. Our bungalow was beautiful, simple, rustic, and spotlessly clean. The bed was so comfortable. We were surrounded by plants and wildlife. Lying in the hammock or relaxing in the jacuzzi listening to the birds and the frogs was magical. Now we are revived and ready to go back to work! We will certainly visit Huasquila again. The other guests were having a great time, enjoying a variety of exciting tours and activities. We hope to do that too next time! Thank you all!

We are a little family run hostel located in the green part of Misahualli, in a walking distance (800m) from the center. The name come from banana plants growing in the garden of the Banana Lodge. The garden has orange, lemon, guayava, guava, lichi, coffee and cacao trees and various tropical plants including pineapples. We have a majestic view to a curve of the river Misahualli and primary jungle. You can listen to the nature and smell it right here. We stayed here for three nights as part of our Ecuador trip and loved every minute of it. The food was sometimes simple but always really tasty and lots of it! The jungle walks were really interesting, the noises amazing, and we watched hummingbirds from the restaurant. All the staff were lovely and helpful too.

Hamadryade Lodge is a luxurious hotel located in the High Amazon region, near Puerto Misahualli. This ecosystem, even if it is still the Amazonian Rainforest, is very different that the one in Lower regions. We are at 500mts altitude with hills and small mountains. Therefore, the climate remains pleasant all year round (24°C in average), and the absence of swamps allows an easier access to the more remote zones of Primary Rainforest, and of course the most positive consequence, is that we do not suffer from the presence of mosquitoes and Malaria.
The website doesn’t paint an accurate picture of what to expect, especially for travelers who have stayed in what are touted as luxury jungle resorts in the past. I’ll start with the pros: 1. The kitchen/check-in staff are LOVELY. Incredibly warm and friendly. They tend to the day-to-day duties of the property, including preparing the meals, which were actually some of the best we had in Ecuador. They spoke very little English, just as an FYI. My husband (who can speak Spanish at an elementary level) frequently had to translate for other guests, but I would just suggest to download translation apps before visiting if no one in your party is semi fluent. 2. Lovely pool area with hammocks. 3. Villa #5 (the larger two bedroom) has bathrooms that open to the outside, fostering a wonderful immersive jungle shower feel! But the cons… 1. The resort’s descriptions for their myriad experiences aren’t realistic. For us personally, we never saw the advertised flora and fauna (which we get you can never guarantee wildlife), but we literally never saw anything beyond a small bird the entire time we were there (3 nights), and the resort touts monkeys, brightly hued tree frogs, snakes, toucans, parrots, etc. No other guest we talked to saw anything either - not on the night walk, parrot tour, full-day jungle trek, etc. Again, this could’ve been bad luck, but we also did a reflexology treatment which was a light foot massage (I’ve had wonderful reflexology treatments in Sedona, Thailand, et al), so I feel like everything from their list of experiences was pulled from marketing speak that doesn’t actually represent what you’re getting. 2. The rooms, while beautiful, were weathered. The screens had numerous holes that allowed all the stinging bugs to make their way through. We had a giant lizard friend one night; super cool, yes, but it made me wonder what other crawlers were behind him! (*caveat: I was not upset about the lizard. It’s the jungle, lol, and I understand that bugs are a part of the experience. I just think the relative price and the way the hotel presents itself doesn’t prepare guest for this.) 3. Finally, this was a personal experience (and I can’t stand when Trip Advisor users implore people lot to stay because of hyper specific experiences they had that probably won’t affect anyone else), but I was disappointed with the way the resort handled it, which I think is important to tell. There are five villas - 4 one-bedrooms and 1 two-bedroom - and my husband and I booked the two-bed as we loved the look and layout - two story, bathrooms that opened to the outside, super secluded at the far end of the property. It, obviously, was much more expensive. We paid 50% at booking, then when we arrived, we were taken to a one-bedroom. I asked the staff and showed them my confirmed booking, and was told I would need to wait until the GM got in later that night. When she did, she told me that the two-bedroom villa was booked for the remainder of my stay. On day two, she told me that we could in fact move to the larger villa, but it would be late, prob 9 pm. We finally got a call around 11:40pm that we could move. That was fine, but when we checked out, we saw they charged us the higher rate for that night. Technically fair, since we did sleep in the room that night, but after all our trouble and the extremely late hour we got access to the room (check in is at 4), it seemed a bit tacky. Long review, but to summarize, it’s not as nice as it’s website leads on. If you’re cool with that, great, but there are so many other truly wonderful places in Ecuador that won’t leave you wanting.

We loved our stay. The lodge is very much located in the jungle. Slight walk along the river from the parking lot to the lodge, however, the staff transports your luggage. All areas of the lodge were very clean and well kept. The staff was eager to help however they could. They do allow dogs, which was kind of annoying at times when they were left to bark unattended in their rooms. The food and drink were all very fresh and delicious. There is a toucan named Plumas (feathers) who was hand raised by locals and is a regular visitor at the lodge. He is very fun to watch and interact with. Javier was our guide during our daily outings while staying at the lodge and we can not say enough good things about him. We had so much fun talking and getting to know each other and he was a wealth of knowledge about his home country. Highly recommend this place and would love to return.

Cabanas San Isidro, a large reserve with some of the best access to primary mid elevation cloud forest in Ecuador, is renowned for its world class birding, exotic cuisine and outstanding conservation ethic. Our extensive trail system will lead you through gorgeous forest to a Cock-of-the-Rock lek, waterfalls, rivers and even archaeological sites. Fun activities for kids!
We were a group of three couples that stayed at Cabanas San Isidro for four nights while on a 9 day birding trip in the eastern slope of the Andes. Prior to San Isidro, we spend two nights at Guango Lodge and two nights at WildSumaco Lodge. Cabanas San Isidro was outstanding in every way! After staying at the other two lodges, we were very pleasantly surprised by the beautiful accommodations here. We stayed in room #8, and our friends in #6, and #7. Our room had floor to ceiling windows in the living and bedroom area, overlooking the lucious gardens. The room was very nicely appointed and comfortable. (There's a heater in the closet which we appreciated becuase it does get cold at night at this elevation.) Carmen was lovely - she and her staff went out of their way to make sure we were well looked after. The food was also a treat. Fresh local ingredients are used. Food was plentiful, nicely presented, and very tasty. We splurged on the tasting menu one evening which was a treat. Carmen is trying to acquaint visitors with the traditional food eaten by the people of the Andes and Amazon. The meal used ingredients that we were not familiar with, and was very interesting and delicious! Highly recommend trying it! But, best of all, were the birds on the lodge grounds and in the surrounding area. The lodge has a moth screen with lights up at night, so in the early morning, as daylight breaks, the garden by the restaurant deck is swarming with a wide variety of birds. There was also a resident pair of Masked Trogons while we were there, seen in the morning and end of the day in very close proximity. The hummingbirds were incredible as well, and the special Black-banded Owl (San Isidro) made regular appearances in the early evening. The lodge also has a daily Antpitta worm feeding which regularly attracts a plain-backed antpitta, a specieis usually very difficult to see. Nearby, there are amazing birding and hiking areas, including hummingbird gardens, locations good for Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, and Wayra Reserve, which was excellent for tanagers. We would very higly recommended a stay at Cabanas San Isidro. If you're interested in a guided birding tour, Carmen can arrange for an expert bi-lingual local guide and driver, as she did for us. Our guide, Jorge Luna, was superb, as was our driver, Edwin Herrera. She ensured everything went smoothly on our trip, including arranging for COVID testing at Guango Lodge enroute back to Quito.
