Get to Matera quickly, because it’s still relatively undiscovered by foreign tourists. In town, visit the Domenico Ridola National Museum. Matera’s real claim to fame, though, and the reason it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the extensive series of cave dwellings ("i sassi") southeast of town, first inhabited by Benedictine and Basilian monks. You’ll see individual cells, chapels, and even some churches, many adorned with Byzantine decorations and frescoes.

As mentioned by other reviewers this B&B is quite hard to find but it is well worth it. Our room was very comfortable and it’s well situated and easy to walk to all the main sights. Nicola is the owner who comes each day to provide guests with breakfast which is always freshly prepared. He is happy for guests to use the fridge to either store drinks or to help oneself to small bottles of water. Guests are also welcome to make themselves tea and coffee. His wife is also involved within the business. She is very friendly and welcoming. We stayed for 4 days and had fresh towels after 2. Our bed linen would have also been changed but we felt it wasn’t necessary although the offer was there. The room was spotlessly clean. We enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend. Only snag would be parking. We had a hire car and parking was tight. It is a city though and to be expected I suppose.

Casa del Sole is in the very heart of Sassi di Matera. We have many rooms and you will surely find one that suits you! Each room has a private bathroom with all the amenities and also the wifi connection to keep you connected to the world. Breakfast is always included in the stay. We want to make you happy and work hard every day to reach this goal!
Everything was perfect in our stay. The reception, the breakfast, the people. Our bedroom was just awesome, with a wonderful view to the Sassis. Francesca and Cristina was really helpful in all the way. I trully recommend!!

LIMEN: latin word that means threshold, border, limit. LIMEN MATERA GUESTHOUSE is located at the the third floor of a midcentury building situated at the border of the south slope of Matera’s Sassi. Thanks to its prominent position compared to the ancient settlement, wide windows and balconies let you enjoy an astonishing view upon Sassi and Gravina torrent, the deep canyon that separates – once again limen – the carsic altiplane called Murgia, with ist Paleolithyc settlements, from Sassi‘ two valleys. The flat, totally reserved to the guesthouse is just restored and refurbished with up to date utilities and comforts, but neverthless it has an experienced and warm aspect thanks to a precise aestethic choice: we were inspired by an important transitional age in Matera’s history, the post World War II years of the economic and social growth, in order to reproduce, by selecting original furnitures, a typical burgeois interior of the emerging international, openminded leading class of the time. N.B. WE ARE AT THE THIRD FLOOR. WE OFFER –ALMOST- EVERYTHING BUT THE LIFT – OR ELEVATOR - . Per aspera ad astra: Limen Matera is worth the effort of getting to.
We stayed here for one night and I can just recommend the place. Upon arrival we got a really good first guidance of the city Matera and the places to visit. The room is very clean and modern, it feel like home. The B&B has a great location just some small walk from the main sights. We really enjoyed the breakfast as well as the host, really friendly, nice and sympathetic. Great place if you stay in Matera.
