Far East Russia is a world apart from the country’s west – almost literally, lying thousands of miles and many time zones away from it. A huge area with rugged mountains and spectacular Pacific Ocean coastline, Far East Russia borders China and North Korea on its south and nearly touches the United States to the northeast. Cities like Vladivostok and Khabarovsk are here, but the glorious natural wonders (like the volcanoes and national parks of the Kamchatka Peninsula) are what draw many.

Snow Valley is a mountain lodge and travel agency. Operating all year round. All kinds of activities on territory of Kamchatka. Winter: heliski, snowmobile tours and driving school, ski lift (400m), ski tour/splitboard, mountineering, etc. Summer: fishing, float trips, hiking, helicopter tours to Valley of Geysers and Kuril lake, mountaineering, atv, summer freestyle ski/snowboard park.
We chose this place because on internet it looks like the only and best place for a ski trip in Kamchatka. Prices are on Western standards, but services are not. Food is not even decent (on the Alps at that price you get 4 courses with choice, because yes, here you are served your plate and that is all, no choise at all). On our last evening we saw a group which was served crab legs..we were very excited and thought that was also our dinner. But it wasn't. Why??? In the land of fish, no fish at all for the whole week! You are outside the world, which it is beautiful, but you are stucked there, and When you want to go back to the city you have to accept the schedule they decide for you: you are paying an expensive private transfer but they decide when and where. Snow valley looks like a place for sport people, but actually it is full of Russians who spend the days and nights drinking and partying. Such a pity, because the idea is very cool... They should just work a bit on these points to become a top destination.

The Hotel Central is located in the very downtown within a pedestrian section of the so-called Birobidjan "Arbat". Beside the hotel there is central post office, lots of stores, trading centres, cafeteria and restaurants, Birobidjan central market-place. Two blocks away from the hotel there is a municipal theatre. A few blocks away a municipal muse
This hotel, instead of pointing out a minor error on a document, called the police who they had at my door within 45 minutes of checking in. Do not stay here. This police visit was arranged as a punishment for arriving early having agreed with the hotel early check in. This was the first time In my life that this kind of revenge was enacted for coming to an hotel so swiftly. I got fined and wasted 2 hours of my life at a police station just for a vindictive member of staff.

We were moved here due to an overbooking on their sister hostel 'Izba', so we hadn't booked here. It is also called 'Barbados Hostel' on the outside. The hostel is quiet poor, probably the worst I stayed in Russia. The room was very cramped and also very hot, making it uncomfortable to move around, pack the bag or sleep. The common room/kitchen was also very small and cramped for the number of guests. There is a TV constantly on with Russian TV shows at a loud volume so not possible to relax/read etc. Also the hostel wasn't so clean and showers were very poor. You can't use the full strength as then the water sprays onto the floor. The only positives were the location (less than 5 mins from the train station) and the woman working on reception. She was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, however the night staff were the complete opposite, uninterested and unhelpful. Overall, a very poor hostel lacking atmosphere.

It’s about 900 rubles by taxi to get here one way depending. Your first clue of how bad it is going to be is the dirt/gravel road leading up to the area for a couple of miles, lots of holes and puts - now we understood why so many taxis cancelled. The usual lack of signage. There is zero view, although they said on the phone it was a table reservation with a water view. You can’t see through trees. Menu isn’t good. Food is blah. Poor beer selection. Poor service, your empty glass will sit on your table forever even after you get your meal and ask for another. That’s after they do the “drop the plate and run” on your order. Make sure you ask them to bring all meals at the same time or your other guests will finish as you get your meal. Yeah, it’s like that. Check your receipt for added fees for poor service!!! All the servers are basically village girls with zero training who wouldn’t know what service even means - they look at you like you are from another planet. At dusk the mosquitoes come out to eat you. It’s very hot here, at least ten degrees F hotter than the embankment. Getting a taxi back out to pick you up is a hassle too, they don’t like to come way out here. This place felt like a show off guy with a Ferrari but it was just a plastic kit car and underneath was a VW bug. All talk but nothing really. Very, very overpriced. There is a little waterside shack down the stairs which is actually better - nice view on the water, decent menu, self serve beers and ice cream cones (self-service is a luxury after the Veranda service). Same mosquitos at dusk though. Only a few tables have shade so if it’s a hot day and the sun is blazing it will be really hot. Some people like that though by the water. Still, I prefer the breezes you get at the embankment.

Taejnaya is very clean and well-appointed. Rooms and bathrooms are very well-apppointed. Mattresses are comfortable. Lighting and outlets are very adequate. No hot water in room, but hot shower room down the hall with clean, separate private shower stalls. Restaurants on site, very good and reasonably-priced food. Breakfast is only $4- $5 pp. Wi-fi available altho not working when we stayed there. Tewjnaya is a great little place to stay.
