Sora Lodge Lalibela is a German-Ethiopian family-run hotel that has been open since October 2013. We have modern, spacious single, double and twin rooms with hot showers, comfortable beds and large verandas. We are located within walking distance of 15 minutes to the Southern group of churches and 20 minutes to the Northern group of churches and offer daily shuttles from Lalibela Airport (about 35 minutes by car). What makes our lodge unique are its location and the breathe-taking view. All rooms have two large verandas facing towards east and west from where our guests can see Lalibela’s biggest mountain, “Asheten Mariam”, and watch the sunrise as well as the sunset.
We, my wife and me, stayed at Sora lodge for 4 days at the end of April 2022. Really an amazing place to stay, maybe the best place we’ve enjoyed in Ethiopia during our three weeks holiday. They have a generator as long as the power plant central of Lalibela has been destroyed during conflict (this is the only thing that will remind you that there were a war in the country) everything is safe and Lalibela archeological site is really a dream. We recommend our guide Alex (mobile and WhatsApp +251 92 262 7352) he is very prepared and know each hidden corner of Lalibela and surrounding sites. Sora lodge has also a very good restaurant with a really nice views. Don’t book tuctuc at the reception because prices will be more than double: walk 3 minutes up to the main road and catch a tuctuc there. Ethiopia need tourism start again, we’ve travelled all over the country without any problem everything is safe!

Nice place with an amazing view over a clear volcanic, round lake in which you can swim or make a tour with the kayak. Climate of 26 degrees the whole year like in spring in the south of California or France. Run by a Belgium guy and an Ethiopian lady. We serve fresh fish and vegetables from the surrounding farms. Day trips and tours possible with our Flamingos Tours Company.
While my wife and I , recently got married. We decided to stay at the Babogaya Lake Viewpoint Lodge. The atmosphere and compound was beautiful and the staff were very professional and friendly. We were able to get some of our wedding pictures done there, and also had a lot of fun by fishing and birding just within the compound of the Lodge. Perfect and peaceful area. Thank you again for the wonderful stay.

First class all the way!! Staff are super helpful and friendly! Location is perfect, 10 minutes walk from the churches, and the hotel is amazing!! Rooms are large, beautiful and very clean. Breakfast was delicious. My wife loved the papaya juice very much. Parking is available inside the compound. Can’t wait to come back.

The room was comfortable in lovely gardens, though the bathroom needed updating. Good wi-fi in the room. Very tasty pasta in the restaurant, although they seem to want to leave not long after easting (to be fair, there weren't many people there)

I can't recommend this Lodge at all. At the last day of our stay somehow a passport and two creditcards disappeared. The staff was not helpfull at all in that case. Maybe because there was some money next to that passport. Be aware.

This small new lodge located near the Royal Enclosure is already receiving rave reviews. The beautiful decorated rooms using locally made furniture each have private en suite & are all built around a lovely central garden. The breezy upstairs breakfast restaurant has wonderful views; other dishes may be available on request. Budget beds are also available
I stayed here with family on a holiday for one week. The lodge is an oasis in the middle of a busy city and once through the door, you’ll feel like you’re at home. The place was clean and well kept and incredibly safe and peaceful. The manager, Seyoum, was so attentive and was going above and beyond to accommodate our needs. He was also super helpful in giving us recommendations on must see places throughout Gonder. All of the staff were also very kind and caring, and always attended to our needs including laundry services and always providing us with whatever we needed. They were so loving and attentive with our little daughter. Rooms are cosy and traditionally decorated all facing a lush courtyard garden. Breakfast is served on an upstairs terrace with striking views over the Fasil castles, mountains, and surrounding countryside. Breakfast menu has plenty to offer. We enjoyed the delicious fresh juice, ginger tea, jebena coffee, warm honey with bread, and scrambled eggs. Highly recommended!

Limalimo Lodge is a boutique 14-room sustainable lodge in Ethiopia's Simiens Mountain National Park. Perched on an escarpment the lodge overlooks deep gullies, offering breath-taking views and the opportunity to see wildlife found nowhere else on earth. Surrounded by indigenous highland trees, this is a contemporary lodge influenced by its natural surroundings and traditional Ethiopian design.
We were efficiently picked up by the lodge from Gondar airport for the two-hour drive to the lodge on a good road. The manager (Julia) and all her staff were outstanding. From the moment we arrived we knew we were in good hands. I was pleasantly impressed by the creativity and quality of the menu. Limalimo strives to source only local ingredients yet delivers inspired meals. Our first lunch had as a first course a salad that I deconstructed in my mind, realizing that it was simply really well-prepared local produce. The whole experience was like this: take what you have nearby and manage it expertly. The rooms were very bright, well-equipped and cozy. Our room (#2) had a great view and was relatively close to the main lodge. I believe all rooms have a few lounge chairs outside to relax in, as well as banquettes along the windows inside with abundant pillows if you wanted to just have a nap or read. Wonderful how the lodge uses handmade Sabahar fabrics so extensively. I noted that the lodge is generally accessible to persons with mobility constraints. For example, there was a ramp leading from the dining room to the terrace outside where the fire-pit is located. The lodge is in the mountains, however, and there are steep gravelled pathways and a person using a chair would probably need assistance to move between the room and the main lodge. Julia was great to work with. She rapidly and fully answered all my questions prior to arrival and offered great advice about what hikes were most appropriate given our time and the season. My wife was not feeling well after the first day and sent a medicine prescription to Julia which the lodge managed to fill in local pharmacy in nearby Debark. This assistance was definitely above and beyond the call of duty, but also saved the day in terms of our plans for hiking the next day. Without hesitation we would recommend Limalimo to anyone wanting to visit some of Ethiopia’s most spectacular terrain and enjoy the experience in luxury.

After much of it was burned down, the family have rebuilt most of Aregash Lodge, which now has 12 beautifully-furnished tukuls spread along the slope, with forest all around on the 12 hectare site. They have around 15 hyenas in this small park, and they have planted thousands of indigenous and endemic trees over the years. More than 200 species of bird have been seen in the grounds. This is a real alternative to some of the Awassa hotels (it's 75 mins away by car) and a great night stop on the way south or north. The restaurant has a small, but well prepared selection of dishes, but if you order ahead they can cook a bigger variety (including Greek and Italian food). Gregory and his son Andrea and the staff are all helpful, smiling and are genuinely a caring bunch. You feel like this is really your home as much as theirs and this is rare in the modern world. Note that this area, at altitude, can be quite cold at night. Bring a jumper! A number of activities and tours can be arranged. Currently $50/night for a tukul.
