Wish I could give this place 100 stars! I stayed here for 5 total nights with two other friends during our ski trip to Hakuba and from start to finish our experience was incredible. Tsuyoshi (the manager) and his family are so kind and generous and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, including picking us up late in the evening from our train station and giving us rides into Hakuba. The facility is very clean and a great location to ski in and out if you want to ski the Cortina area. There is no laundry in the building but the staff will take your laundry and return it to you the following day for a small fee if you wish. The showers downstairs are a miniature version of an onsen and very refreshing, including a hot bath area. Finally, DO NOT SKIP THE DINNER OPTION for your stay. We had dinner there on our last night and it was authentic and amazing, wish we would have eaten there every night. As others have reviewed, this place is perfect if you’re looking for an authentic Japanese, family experience, not to party. Truly a Happy House! :)

We had the best experience staying at Pension Hobby during our visit to Japan. The owners are very kind and they went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Our room was simple and clean with a modern space heater. Norikura itself is tiny and the number of restaurants is limited. This didn’t matter at all since we had fantastic dinners (set menu) at Pension Hobby every night during our stay. Breakfast always included homemade yoghurt, milk, jam, sausages, bacon and so on. All of he food was delicious! The lift system is small but this is easily offset by smaller crowds on powder days and Cortina is easy to access without having to catch a bus. You can get a discount coupon from Pension Hobby for Norikura or Norikura+Cortina tickets. The lifts are a short walk up the street away and the Onsen is short walk in the opposite direction. The shuttle bus connecting to the rest of Hakuba valley is located close to the lifts. Thank you again for a great stay!

This place is a gem. Charmingly appointed in a Japanese style. Staff have limited English but do their best to accommodate every wish. The food is fantastic (mostly Japanese). Onsen is a bonus. You will find yourself pretty much surrounded by Japanese guests. Very close to the Tsugaike gondola. Skiing there was great (esp for non expert like me). I should say this place is not cheap - represented very good value for me though. Some of the rooms are share bathroom (though mine was ensuite). If it can fit into your budget, don’t miss it!

Hotel
I went to Tsugaike Kogen and stayed here for 2 days. The room was great, the food was delicious, I got that simple and homey experience. Just the type of inn that you would want to have after a fun day skiing.

Guesthouse
Whilst skiing in Tsugaike, Hakuba, I had the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful hospitality of Lodgie and his talented wife, Asami, who are renovating an old ski lodge and creating beautiful additions, such as the split-level timber lounge, and entertainment verandah - which would be fabulous in summer. The bar is a one-off, with old-fashioned touches (antique accounting drawers on the back of the bar area), nooks and crannies for liqueurs, and quirky flourishes. The timberwork was completed by Asami and enhances the warm and friendly atmosphere of the common area. Rooms are typically Japanese with shared bathrooms. Just walk across the road to the snow and down the road for the full Tsugaike range of dining opportunities. Will definitely return.
