The proud black “crow castle” of Matsumoto keeps watch over a city that’s rapidly developing into an epicenter of food and culture. Slurp noodles made from local soba or taunt your taste buds with product from the Daio Wasabi Farm. Take a soothing soak in a local hot spring or spend a few minutes in the Timepiece Museum. Classical music fans should consider a visit during the Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto, founded by famed conductor Seiji Ozawa.

Our rustic lodge and family friendly environment provides a homey, international atmosphere that is enhanced by a climbing wall and game room. Everything is designed for your stay to be fun, to have rest, to meet new friends, and to experience NORTHSTAR's authentic hospitality in an awesome location called the Norikura Kogen, deep within the Northern Alps National Park. Come enjoy our lodge and our local adventures!
A beautiful lodge in the Japan Alps with a friendly bilingual staff and fantastic meals! The lodge offers snowboard lessons, backcountry tours, mountain biking, rental epuipment, etc. There are beautiful waterfalls nearby, as well as a fun ropes course, and nature galore to satisfy the soul. Highly recommend this place!

I now understand the different reviews. Very grateful to the reviewer who shared that Fukushiso inn provides shuttle pick up from the JR Matsumoto station. About 10 min drive or 40 min walk away. I booked via Agoda and contacted them via Agoda. No response. Will I ever stay? If I were driving through and rates were low enough, I would, with expectation that it is a 2 star accommodation in terms of facilities but 5 star in service. A mismatch in price and the facilities. But the service level was excellent. I attribute much of the miscomm to Agoda site without providing Fukashiso's website or email. I would book direct from Fukushiso website in future. When I contacted them through Agoda website, no response and didnt realise that there was free shuttle. Only when I found the ryokan's site (through search engine), and their email on actual day, I emailed and got a prompt response on the free shuttle from Matsumoto Station (West side) at 3.30pm or 5.30pm. Staff spoke decent English and food was good, not as luxurious as shown in the photos. But excellent cooking. I love their tempura mushroom. The staff are earnest and they seemed to have improved since. The facilities such as room and onsen in the building are limited and small compared to the price in similar establishments in Kyushu. Room was clean and no smoke. But tiny with no attached bathroom. Note that check in is 4pm. The private onsen is like the toilet of a hotel. No view and old tiles. The breakfast is Japanese and we liked the curry rice and coffee. Its a generous breakfast with yogurt, juice, milk.

Stayed for a night. Service was very good, there were 2 restaurants nearby open for dinner. We opted for the breakfast, which however was a little pricey. 1500 yen but with free flow of bread and coffee. Room was very cosy, with a small loft. and had a nice view of the river behind. Onsen was a short drive away, but they also have baths which you can lock and make it your own private bath. Free parking.

Located 5 minutes from the bas station at Kamikochi. I stayed the room with two beds and tatami place attached. It was large enough for 3 of us. 2 can sleep in bed and 1 in the tatami part. We all did their Shiatsu massage after 5-hour hike to Tokuzawa and the therapist Kusanagi-san was amazing.

Located in a beautiful National Park area, clean, smoke free and cheerful, with a friendly and homelike atmosphere. They prepare delicious Japanese and Western meals from healthy local products and plants growing wild around Alpine area. provide current information, includes safety, transportation & Free WiFi and ask them anything in English. Hot spa, hiking trails minutes away in a secluded forest, the silence broken only by bird song. A perfect escape from the concrete jungle, a year round retreat.
We spent 2 weeks in Japan. On the second week we rented a car to take the road less traveled. Alpine Inn is in a great location within the local national park. We took the half board option and we were rewarded with the greatest home cooked Japanese food. We can’t fault the great hospitality provided by the family of three who run the inn, they are very friendly and informative. We were there in late spring but there was still snow a little further up the road due to the altitude. This is a very beautiful part of the alps. We stayed in some great places in two weeks including the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo. The Alpine Inn would not have the same star rating as the Hyatt and in fact we had shared bathroom facilities. But for us, the Alpine Inn was the best for the entire trip. A not to be missed experience

stayed in this pension for 1 night to ascend to the Norikura summit for fall foliage above 2000m. Family-run nice pension with its private onsen. Room was spacious but a bit dark (not a big issue). Both meals are sumptuous made from local produce. They baked their own bread and I like their apple tarts ! Thanks to the owner by driving me to the nearby ponds for photo shooting early in the morning. Highly recommended !
