location is remote without shuttle bus though, need at least 2500yen for round-trip bus from hakone yumoto station, so you can imagine how much you will cost if depart from tokyo. one-day trip price is ok, but that doesnt include drink, the worst thing is when you order drink they dont tell you that it costs extra money . furthermore the drink is extremely expensive, not acceptable at all. then talking about hotspring(Onsen), its worst i have been in Japan with that price.

My friend and I chose to stay here for a couple of nights, but we kept adding on more nights because we weren’t ready to leave! The two private onsens are easy to reserve and they are perfect! The property is cozy and makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. There is plenty of nature around the property and many good bars and restaurants in waking distance. The owners are super helpful and are always available for questions or to add on more nights to your stay! I hope to make it back here again one day.

I planned this trip with my boyfriend about a month or so ahead of time. We were quite excited, however this excitement quickly went away upon arriving at the hotel. After we parked in the small parking lot we were led up uneven small stairs that were made up of various stones. Did I mention it was down pouring rain? I was so happy I did not have an actual luggage otherwise I am sure I would have slipped and fallen. I actually wanted to touch the hand rail because of how horrible the stairs were but the wooden rails were completely covered in moss (which at that point was sopping wet). I do not know how people go up with so much luggage and the high amount of dangerous stairs. After the stairs we were led into a main room for paperwork. We chose a time to eat our dinner and were given keys. Going up the stairs I saw the border on the bottom of the wall was falling off. Once to our room we opened the door. My boyfriend (Japanese) and I both had similar reactions. The room had a smell to it and it reminded us of a love motel, which for $450, did not make us happy. There were two beds nexts to each other squished next to the sink in the room. Neither of us could comfortably stand in front of the sink without touching the bed. The highlight of the room, and the reason we booked it was the attached tub that had a view. However, much to my dismay the window looking outside had not been cleaned and was covered in film which prevented me from having a clear view of the beautiful scenery outside. In the same room as the tub was the shower, coming from the drain was a sewer type smell which led me to have to spray my perfume while I was using the room. In addition to this I felt that the room had not been cleaned properly. Just looking at the tissue box it was covered in spots and dust. The only positive at this "resort" was the dinner. However, $450 was not work the total price for one night. I hope my boyfriend and I can return to the area and have a better experience at a different hotel.

I have been to many ryokan in Japan and always find them very satisfactory. This place has really put us off. The worst part is their service. The first point of contact at the reception hardly had any smile on his face. He didn't really seem to like us coming which we all found quite odd in Japan. But the real worst is their restaurant staff. The 5 of us got put in a table surrounded by 3 walls (like a box) where the staff couldn't access any side of the table except one end. During a kaiseki meal, there are many many pots and plates and bowls. After every single dish, the waitress would make us pass all our plates, pots and bowls back. Seriously after every dish. I could bear it when it was during dinner as we would need space anyway, but when it has come to near the end that we started to have dessert, she still made us pass the crockery, I said to her "can't you wait till the end then you clean up the table?" but apparently she couldn't understand and couldn't be bothered to solve my question. I got really annoyed when she made us pass the big hot pot used for sukiyaki which was still very HOT. For the whole dinner, we felt like we were doing her job, we should have asked for a day's pay. The sleep quality is also poor, the single beds are extremely small, and the mattresses look like they come from the worst quality possible. I also find the room smells a bit. There is a air purifier in the room that I had to keep on for the whole time. There is a window right outside our room that was left opened, that means a lot of mosquitoes gathered outside our room. Every time we opened the door, some mosquitoes would have followed inside.

Very quiet and peaceful hotel with private hot spring tub in the rooms. We had a very large suite (#202). The main issue was the beds. The mattress was so hard that we only slept an hour or 2. A new mattress or a mattress topper would be a Huge improvement. The food was average but nothing special. The service, as I mentioned, was excellent. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel like royalty.

We went to Hakone for a weekend getaway from Tokyo and stayed at this lovely hotel in the mountains. It is a dog-friendly place, which is why we picked it. All the other guest had brought their dogs as well. We enjoyed our stay very much, the room was great, with both indoor and outdoor bath (rotenburo), the staff very friendly and helpful and the food was very delicious. We would recommend this hotel to all dog-loving people.

Stayed here for two nights and did the “planes, trains and automobiles” circuit. It is great fun but you need to cross fingers for good weather if you want to see Mount Fuji. Best way to get an idea is to search cloud levels at Shizuoka-Shi; looking for 10% or less. Kuranju is delightful..use the onsen. Food is very good and a combination of Japanese and European. Owner is very knowledgeable and will transfer/pick up from local bus stops. Local buses are fantastic!
