Our family spent a night at Saruya after climbing Mt. Fuji. We stayed in a private/family room which comfortably accommodated the four of us. Our kids were initially hesitant about the shared bath/toilet setup but found they were clean, modern, and well-maintained. The person working the front was easy to talk to and offered a lot of helpful information about the area. The common areas were stylish, but subdued. We were quite comfortable eating and relaxing there. The only downside was the staircase to the second floor, which was a bit narrow and quite steep, but we managed. Free parking is available if you have a car. You'll have to navigate some narrow back streets to reach it, but it was nice to have. There is a common kitchen with a refrigerator, dishes, and a mini stove if you prefer to cook your own meals.

Pros and Cons: + Very close to the bus terminal, easy to get to even if you're dragging your luggages along + Despite the close proximity to bus terminal, rooms are quiet as it is tucked away from the main roads + Clean, comfortable rooms that are decently spacious + Good heating provided + A small positive, you get window view of (slightly obstructed) Mt. Fuji - You have to pay a small premium compared to other guesthouses in the area for all the benefits above.

This is a gorgeous traditional hotel only a few minutes walk away from the Kawaguchiko train station. The staff here are super friendly and helpful, going out of their way to serve you when needed. Your room is very traditional with your bed being a futon. Whilst you can see Fuji from the balcony, you're also a 30 min walk away from some of the best views of Mt Fuji (of which the staff can tell you where to exactly go). You're also able to cook and do laundry here if you're staying as part of a longer trip in Japan and wish to do so. I would happily stay here again.

Avoid staying here if you can. Main door is unlocked day and night. Not enough space for two people and we had two small suitcases. We placed them on the floor. The beds are hard, the heating (A/C) does not work very well so most of the time we were freezing and our room (letter O) had a window but it doesn’t look out to anywhere so it feels like a tiny box room. There is really bad condensation in the mornings on the windows. You can hear when someone leaves the house or goes to the toilet, extremely thin walls! I gave it two stars as they include the washing machine, tea & coffee. If you have to stay here, one night would be the most. Oh and don’t check out late! We checked out 10mins later and we were clapped out of the room, Literally! A very rude way of handling with people.

Hostel Mt. Fuji - FUKUYA, Fujiyoshida Hostel Mt. Fuji - FUKUYA - We are a pioneer – We established a guest house 3 years ago in Mt. Fuji Area, when foreign travelers couldn’t find nice and reasonable lodging with bilingual service in Mr. Fuji area, and to be more sad, I had heartbreaking experiences to see some travelers had to make dangerous “Bullet climbing(弾丸登山) because of such shortage of hotels -and this is why I established my guest house, Hostel Mt. Fuji Fukuya, to answer demands of dearest foreign guests. I had worked at a tourist information center operated by the city for more than 20 years, and at that time, I had to have many heartbreaking experiences -We had no good and reasonable hotels with bilingual service in our area, and I couldn’t introduce them a hotel. I felt so sorry not be able to welcome them as much as I wanted, and this experience made me to decide to create my own Guest house. I established my guest house in 2016, with my own fund with my passion to welcome customers and love for Mt. Fuji. I’ll welcome you with Japanese Omotenashi heart( warm hospitality), with bilingual service and at reasonable price. Please feel free to contact me. To see your smile is our goal.
The hostel is new and clean; Stayed for 2 nights there; 5 of us stayed there- 3 in private room and another 2 in the dorm room. it's about 8-10 mins walk from Gekkoji Station; and the Arakura Sengen Jinja is roughly about 15-20 mins leisure walk from the hostel. The owner Ms Machiko is friendly and helpful. Gave us many helpful info on Fujiyoshida and surrounding areas - Lake Kawaguchi & Lake Yamanaka; bus from front of hostel to Fuji-san station and luggage storage at tourist info centre. We can get a wonderful view of Mt Fuji from the top floor of apartment building next to the hostel.

Tetsu no YA
