The land of the midnight sun awaits on the northern shores of Great Slave Lake in Yellowknife, a small but diverse city famous for its spectacular wilderness. Sitting on the edge of the Arctic Circle, the city enjoys summer days with nearly 24 hours of sunlight, and dark winter skies lit up by aurora borealis. Once a gold rush town and now a diamond mining town, Yellowknife is the hub of northern activities, ranging from dog sledding and cross-country skiing to backpacking and birding.

First time back in Yellowknife since pre-Covid, and happy to say the Explorer Hotel is as good as I remember. Friendly, familiar faces from staff to guests, fine dining, spectacular views from your room...I will say that I was a little disappointed with their room-cleaning policy of every 3 days (I know some hotels in the South are still doing the same thing), but I'm told that this is due to a major shortage of workers in Yellowknife. Now, I was originally going to give 4 stars for this review, but I can't fault them for lack of staff. Anything I needed in between cleanings was readily available at the Front Desk! Thank you Explorer...and see you again real soon!

When I go on a trip, I prefer to spend money on experiences, not housing, so Discovery Inn wasn’t bad. Restaurant downstairs was alright, and owner was very helpful when our flight got canceled due to weather.

Totally renovated end of 2008, all the rooms have new duvets and covers, pillow-top mattresses, and free Wi-Fi. In the heart of the city with onsite restaurant, also adjoining the largest mall in town.
I should have read the info about the hotel before booking I didn't realize that there was no parking available. The room was extremely warm all the time with the temperature above 27 degrees Celsius. And unable to open the window because it is screwed shut. There’s zero view from the room. The cleanliness of the room was mediocre, the fan in the room had a dirty cloth on it with a tea bag stuck in the fan shroud. Some of the furniture is damaged and showed wear and tear of its age. The front entrance started leaking from two locations right at the front doors very inconvenience entering and exiting the hotel lobby. Also during the stay the fitness center was unable to be used by patrons. There was also no coffee/ tea for the in room kettle.

For A Perfect Stay In Yellowknife Stanton Suites Hotel Yellowknife is a four story apartment property which consists of 106 suites, including 72 one-bedroom suites and 34 two-bedroom suites. 54 Units are furnished for short-term rental. The property also contains approximately 8,400 square feet of commercial space on the main floor.
First room wasn’t too bad. Until the person staying in room next door thought the “NON SMOKING HOTEL” didn’t apply to them smoking marijuana. Add to that their acute hacking cough would be keeping me up all night! I’m driving delivery on an 80 hours back to back trip to Yellowknife this week. Sleep is my most important resource. So I requested a move to a different room. It was older but I had no other choice. Issues; -No screen in the bedroom window. -Long black hairs on certain areas in room. - DRIP MARKS on the wall over the wall switch in the living room/tv area. (So much for “Strict Cleaning Policy”!) -BURN MARKS on the baseboard heater leading out to the balcony & ALL OVER THE BALCONY. -SMELL OF MARIJUANA COMING INTO THIS ROOM AS WELL. -Weird other smell in room (like an overpowering air freshener, nauseating). *This hotel doesn’t enforce NON SMOKING & NO LOITERING, either inside or just outside their building. Honestly, if you expect more than a 2 Star Hotel? THEN TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE.

This place offered all the comforts of home. We enjoyed making our own peaceful meals and scanning the scenery from the deck. The owners, Ramina and Yaya, are wonderful hosts. They arranged an Aurora tour for us. We would stay here again, if it is available.

Located at downtown of Yellowknife, quiet, safe, clean, affordable, we offer the best to meet your needs.
The fact that the motel is noisy is not totally the fault of the hotel. There is a homeless center next door, and the homeless sometimes wander around the motel area. I hear plenty of shouting at night from the homeless. However, the sound insulation in the rooms is poor, which is why it's easy to hear noise from other rooms. While the day manager, Pam, is friendly enough, she really needs to focus on what the customers request and remember the requests. I asked her yesterday to have a wake-up call at 3am this morning. She said she would pass this on to the night desk clerk. She did not, and I almost missed my flight. I asked another desk clerk for some answers to questions, and I think he thought it was not his job to answer questions about Yellowknife. Actually, it is.

I went to Yellowknife for the aurora, of course. And i decided to stay at Jenny's by chance, which I didn't regret at all. Jenny was super nice and her place was clean and tidy. Coming from a tropical country, of course Yellowknife was extremely cold for me, but Jenny's place gave all the warmth I needed. I was glad I stayed here and would recommend anyone who's going to see the aurora there to stay here!
