Historical hotel to visit

Reviewed By Roamen

The hotel is one of the historic sites in Winton strategically placed in the main Street. Banjo Patterson recited Waltzing Matilda at this hotel. Restaurant is worth a visit. Staff friendly and professional and seems a good watering hole. Restaurant menu was diverse and very generous helpings.

Hidden charges

Reviewed By 467daniv

We stayed at this motel for one night travelling with our dog. We were informed that a $150 fully refundable deposit was required to cover cleaning costs if the room was determined to be unclean after the stay. When i asked what would constitute the deposit not being refunded i was told if my dog urinated on the carpet. As i knew this would not occur I was happy to book. When we left the following morning we checked the floor and did not see any dog hair or other evidence there had been a dog in the room. Our dog stayed on her bed on the tiles section of the room only. When we received only $100 refund we phoned and queried this with Riley (the manager) who said the cleaner found a dog hair. When we stated how unreasonable this was, he laughed and said, "what are you going to F#*@ing do about it?". He was sarcastic and rude and completely unprofessional. We spoke again the following day and he informed us that the $50 they took was what they charge to all pet owners. We were not informed of this or made aware of this at the time of booking. We were not asked to sign anything stating these charges. This complete lack of transparency to this charge is why i have been compelled to write a review warning other unsuspecting pet travellers out there to be very aware of this hidden charge. Also advertised Wifi did not work.

A feed to Remember

My wife and I went for a shared lunch. Burger and chips. No problem. Great light lunch. We met Joe the publican and his passion was evident. I specially requested he chilled a wine of of choice and we’ll be back for our evening meal with the family. We went back that night with our kids. Lasagne was a hit with my wife and kids. It was amazing. I went the rib fillet. Perfectly cooked medium rare. Mushroom sauce was heavenly. An array of veges were freshly wok fried. So fresh, so nice. Chef is vibrant and new. A steak I’ll not forget. P.S. the Church Block was ready and chilled as requested. Thanks Joe. Fantastic

In Winton, there are few choices. This place is hard to identify because the outside sign is faded. There are only 8 units or so. It is very basic. Things do work but the air conditioning is so loud it will keep you awake. TV is from the first generation of flat screen.

Worst motel ever

Reviewed By annepU5593EM

Stayed 2 nights in September. Very friendly manager/owner and we were pleased to be upgraded at no charge to a larger room (unit 14). As widely travelled people we are used to sometimes putting up with rooms that need refurbishment but this not only needed a total make-over but was the dirtiest room we've ever experienced - cobwebs all over the windows (couldn't bear to have the curtains open to have to look at them), shocking mould in the bathroom, roaches in the loo and what looked like blood stains on the blanket. We have never complained before but sorry guys - you will not be getting our business again. We were genuinely glad to leave.
