Comfy family run hotel

Locally recommended family run hotel. Friendly attentive staff. Lovely large room, very comfortable. Breakfast was tasty and felt more special than the chain hotels. There is no bar and the restaurant serves only an insipid draught beer called Bavaria.

You will find this unique hotel nestled in untouched natural surroundings and just a short walk from the beach. This hotel lies nestled in the dunes in the heart of untouched natural surroundings. The excellent menu offers a great variety of delicious dishes with something to suit every palate.

Beautiful location, nice room and meals, but...

Reviewed By Resort813549

The room was very comfortable, but there was insufficient shelving/storage space for toiletries and hand towels in the bathroom. The meals were very good but we noticed that the main courses accompaniments didn't vary and could have been better matched with the dish. Although most staff were helpful, some were disinterested. We were booked on a package which included a complementary bottle of the Cuvée which we were never offered and didn't remember until we had left. Despite explicitly asking for tap water at dinner we were given mineral water and then charged for it. The receptionist dismissed this by saying we would know next time...ouch we will know next time to consider carefully whether we return.

Kasteel de Wittenburg

Location is not ideal if depending on taxi

Reviewed By LWB888

The hotel is historical and good for events but not ideal if no car! I stayed at the hotel as it is close to another castle for a ball during the weekend. It turned out it takes VERY long time for taxi to show up, ranging from 15 minutes to 40 minutes of waiting. I wasted a lot of time just for taxi which is also costly. Every time I called the taxi company where was my car, they always say “10 minutes or any minute”. I was very angry to eventually waited for 40 minutes. I should stay in Hague. For dining it is located in the basement, not in the main floor. I have stayed at many castles and manor houses. This was first time to dine in the basement restaurant. It was also fully booked. Even though we were staying at the hotel, we were not able to have dinner here. We had to book dinner at another hotel, which took 2 more taxi trips. Waiting and waiting. Enough is enough. Never again.

Duinrell

Staying overnight at Holiday Park Duinrell, together with family or friends. Amidst nature, with the sea close by, surrounded by the cities of western Holland and with Scheveningen near by, you'll enjoy some well deserved recreation. An amusement park within an arms reach and the splashing of the Tiki Pool within a short distance.

Excellent base for a fun filled family holiday, especially if you have older children / teenagers

Reviewed By A9515CFlisap

We have just returned from a 5 night holiday. A family, 2 adults, 2 children aged 10 and 8 We had 4 nights in a 2 bed comfort Dunigalo with porch, followed by 1 night in a eurocamp comfort 2 bed mobile home accomodation. I will review these accomodations seperately as they were very different experiances. The Theme Park. The Duinrell park is brilliant. So many rides and attractions to suit everyone from toddlers to adrenaline searching teenagers. Some of the rides are a bit old / slightly dated, but they are still as fun and enjoyable. Some of the bigger faster rides were closed while we were there but there was so much other stuff to go on that it didn't spoil the enjoyment. While we were there (end of May / beginning of June) there were lots of school trips Mon - Fri, and then "kids club style trips" on Saturday. This made the park very busy and we often queued for 30mins or more for the popular rides. My children are used to busy Merlin attractions in England so these queues were smaller than my children were used to so it didnt matter to us. At no point during our 5 day stay were many rides "walk on" or very short queues. It didnt matter to us or spoil any enjoyment. There is a large playground and a few table tennis tables around with really large and fast slides and other equipment more suitable for older children, as well as lots of things for smaller children as well, which is brilliant. Swimming Pool / Tiki Bad The Tiki Bad is now bookable. If you book direct with Duinrell and stay in a Dunigalo you get about 1 voucher per night to book a pool session for your whole party together. These dont cost anything but you still need to book. You can book a 2.5 hour session (including changing time) in the inside pool or 4 hours in the outside pool. In normal circumstances you cant go between the pools, but the weather turned nice and warm while we were there and they chose to open the outdoor pool early, and allowed free flow, within your 2.5 hours indoor sessio. If you are camping and have booked with Duinrell you pay €6.50 per person for the indoor pool. (not sure about out door) If you have booked with Eurocamp / Alfresco / Canvus / Vacanceselect you pay €10pp for an indoor session and €5pp for an out door session. You will be given vouchers to book these upon check in. Sometimes on the Duinrell facebook group people give their unusued codes away to other holiday makers which is fine, so long as you are staying in the same grade of accomodation. If for example you are staying in Eurocamp and use a voucher from someone staying in a Dunigalo, when you arrive and show your Eurocamp ID pass you might be denied entry as they can see you have not got one of your codes. When you check into the pool (they will check your Duinrell ID cards) you are given a card which times you as you enter the changing rooms. The clock starts the moment you beep through and if you over stay, regardless of who you have booked with you pay €5 per person per hour to get out. The barrier wont open and you wont be able to get out until you have paid this so make sure you make a note of the time you beep yourself in. There are 2 lots of changing rooms, upstairs and downstairs and they seemed to alternate these for cleaning. The upstairs ones are newer and to access the lockers you go to a machine, select your language, click "want a new locker" and the machine opens a locker for you. You then select a 4 digit PIN number which you use to open your locker later. THIS MEANS YOU NEED TO REMEMBER YOUR LOCKER NUMBER AND PIN. There was always a staff member around, so if, like me, you forgot your PIN they could over ride and open the locker for you. Downstairs the lockers use keys, but unlike most swimming pool lockers you dont need a coin or anything to operate them. The showers were lovely and warm / hot, and the changing rooms were pretty clean. We booked pool sessions starting at 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 7pm. At all these times the pool seemed really busy. I asked the life guard if it was busy now (about 4pm) thinking it was really busy only to be told it would be much busier after 8pm. We found the pool much quieter on Friday, which is changeover day for the Duinrell accomodation. The tiki bad was amazing. SOOO many slides including some really big fast ones, ideal for teenagers. be aware that ALL children under 1.2m HAVE to have a floatation device on at all times in the indoor pool, and children who are over the height but only a bit might be asked to do a pretty intense swim test, to prove that they can swim, and therefor be allowed in the water without a floatation device. Once they have completed a swim test the life guard will give them a wrist band so they dont have to be tested each time they come into the pool. The slides are controlled with traffic lights which tell you when you to "go". There are no lifeguards at the top to patrol this, however there is CCTV of the tops of the slides with life guards monitoring. Even though while we there the site was full of teenagers, not always behaving sensibly in the evening, i NEVER saw any person deliberately go down the slides when on red. I say deliberately, as some of the slides were fast, and twice, as I stepped it to the set off area, I was accidentally washed down the slide, and I witnessed this happen to others as well. Step in Carefully!!! Quite simply the slides in tiki bad are the best / fasted i have ever encountered. The plug hole slide was faster than any plug hole slide i have been on in England, and even some of the level 1 slides, were much faster than the tamer slides at my local pools. We have done lots of waterparks recently including all Butlins, Centre parcs Whinfell, and Sherwood forest, The Wave, Coventry, Barnsley Metrodome, Splash Landings at Alton Towers and the Sandcastle at Blackpool, and in our opinion tiki bad beats all of these :) There is a lovely hot pool area ideal for youunger children and toddlers. We also really enjoyed the lazy river. Be aware that the double rings are made of a super strong material and are EXTREMLY heavy to drag up the stairs to the top of the slides. We were there on the very first day that they opened the outdoor pool (earlier than planned) It was really cold! also durng the week we had been watching the sea gulls enjoy it, but i think that they should have washed the area down first. There was bird poo everywhere... all over the pool side / the ground / sun beds. It really needed a proper pressure wash as it was covered in bird poo. We really enjoyed our time in tiki bad and visited 4 times during our 5 day stay. The Shop. There is a shop onsite which sells essentials, including food, camping essentials, swimming costumes, toys etc. It was very expensive compared to Jumbo which was about 10mins walk away. There was a gluten free section and it also sold a selection of alpro dairy free milks and products. While we were there the onsite restaurant was closed so we didnt try it. We did ride our bikes into Wassenear where there are so many restaurants to try out where we are some really delicious excellent quailty well cooked food. We also had our pudding at Lucianos, the ice cream parlor where an ice cream cost just €1.60, What a bargain. And so many choices including lots of vegan sorbets. Definitely give the chocolate sorbet a try if you are vegan / dairy free. Its incredible. We took our own bikes but you could also hire them. We really enjoyed our bike ride to the beach. Just turn left out of the site, follow your nose and 20 mins later you should be there. Lots of children hired pedal cars and "drove / rode" around the site until it got dark. I am aware of instances of these being taken, even when locked up, so I'd advise anyone who plans to hire one to also take their own bike lock. If its stolen, and you dont return it upon departure, they will fine you, regardless. Electric car charging. There are 2 car charging points behing the plaza. I often saw 1 car using it but never noticed it full. Washing Machines. The campsite facilitys are accessed by a key fob (like the Dunigalos) so you cant get into the toilets / showers unless you are actually camping. (from looking through the window they looked spotlessly clean) but the washing machine and dryer are located in the first area so anyone can access these if required We didnt use them, but they looked like great quailty Miele machines, and required coins to operate. The washing machine was €5 in coins. I cant remember how much the dryer was. You will need to supply your own washing detergent. WIFI: Some Duinrell accomodation will give you wifi access included in your stay. We found the wifi to be positively excellent in our Duinrell Dunigalo, and good in most areas of the theme park. When we moved into Eurocamp accomodation (in Middle field) it was a very different wifi experiance, I had none at all inside the accomodation and a tiny bit outside, sometimes I guess Duinrell make sure their routers are places well for their own customers but are not so worried about those who have booked with third parties? You can buy wifi codes in the shop (although it would be cheaper for me to pay my phone operator to use my data abroad than it would be to buy duinrell wifi) PHOTOS. Dont forget you need passport size photos for your park ID cards. If you forget you can pay to use their booth but its cheaper and easier to print your own at home. Any photo of your face will do. You need your park ID cards for the pool and also to come back into the park if you leave. DUINRELL 2 bedroom COMFORT DUNIGALO. For the first 4 nights we had Duinrell accomodation. Honestly, it was excellent. Clean and comfortable, with excellent wifi. The kitchen had a gas hob, with top quality stainless steel pans. A combi mircrowave (but NO OVEN or BBQ), electric Kettle, Bosch filter coffee machine nespresso coffee machine, toaster , BOSCH dishwasher, and very well equipped with excellent t quality cutlary and crockery. (The mugs were 2 sizes "very small" and "small"!) There was a SAMSUNG smart TV in both the living room and bedroom, including the apps like netflix and prime so you could log on. It also had lots of live TV channels including the main ones you would watch live in England and Cbeebies / CBBC etc. There was also a BOSCH vacume cleaner. The twin bedroom did not have much storeage (but was the same as photo on website) The double bedroom was 2 single mattesses next to each other which we found annoying, but it was the same as on the photos on the website. Our only complaint was the pillows, they were more like square sofa cushions with only 1 per bed. Id suggest bring your own pillow. There was lots of storeage in the shower room and the shower was hot and powerful. We were pleased to have ordered a dunigo with decking as it meant we got sunshine in the afternoon. The row behind us (without decking) didnt seem to get much sun at all, as they were in our shade. We also had sunbeds in addition to outside dining area It was all very pleasant and the area around the dunigalo was well maintained and pleasant. We were impressed with the car parking. Each Dunigalo had its own clearly numbered space, and they were nice and long. We had a 4 bike tow bar carrier on the back of our Landrover Discovery and the space was long enough to accomodate the car, the bike carrier, and still had extra length as well. Perfect, our bike carrier could remain locked onto the car without being an issue Our 2 BEDROOM COMFORT EUROCAMP accomodation was very different. Firstly the eurocamp staff were happy and helpful and bent over backwards to please. 10/10 for the eurocamp staff :D Comfort accomodation is the lowest grade eurocamp offer. Our Van was definitey "tired" and quite old. The Eurocamp area was more like rutted grass with mole hills that hadnt been mown for ages, It was scruffy and untidy. (not immaculate like the Duinrell areas) When we arrived there were ants all over the outdoor furniture. There was also well dried on (definiltey not fresh) bird poo all over the table. I used loads of dettol on the hope the ants would not return but they did, so when we sat outside there were always ants. Inside the van was tired and functional. The toilet looked clean but it smelt of wee. Im not sure any amount of dettol would have got rid of the aroma. It wasnt too strong but it was there. The black out blind in the kids room didnt work properly either. There was only 1 plug in each bedroom. The pans / cutlary / crockery where cheap and cheerful but did the job. There was a cafetier and you used the gas hob to boil the kettle However the beds were comfy and the pillows were much better! The Fridge and freezer compartment were also bigger than the Dunigalo Eurocamp accomodation also has an oven and a BBQ. The eurocamp van was "good enough" and had been cleaned as much as reasonably possible. It was just older and not of the same standard. HOWEVER, when you consider how much a holiday in a eurocamp comfort costs, it would still represent an amazing value holiday. We spend most of the time in the park area and pool, and i know if we had spent our whole holiday staying in the eurocamp accomodation my children would not have cared less and would still have had an amazing holiday :) The higher grade eurocamp accomodation looked much better as it would have been newer and fresher. In Eurocamp the car park spaces are "normal size" which meant our car + bike rack would not fit, Given we were only there for 1 night and it was clearly not full, we found if we went in at an angle into a corner space we could just about get the car+ bike rack in, without intruding on other spaces, but if we had been there longer im not sure what we would have done, The Thule bike rack is extremely heavy and we had quite a long walk to our van, and no where safe to lock it up. Overall we had an AMAZING May half term at Duinrell, My children loved every second and really enjoyed the rides , playground areas, and pool. Wassenear is so lovely to walk around and eat / drink, and a gorgous sandy beach is a 20 minute bike ride away. I think we went at a busy time, but still we had a wonderful holiday, and no matter where you stay, im sure your children will have an amazing memorable holiday. And this is all only 40mins drive from Rotterdan Port Id definitely choose Dunigalo over basic eurocamp accomodation and when pricing it up would remember to add €40 per swim session to see if eurocamp is that much cheaper.... and if it was, yes id probably stay in a comfort again, but if the price was similar id get a dunigalo (with a dishwasher) because the accomodation was nicer. All staff who we encountered everywhere were great and helful Aswell as Eurocamp / Alfresco and dunigalos, there are safari tents, camping pitches for your own tent / motor home, and other operators eg Canvus and Vacanceselect so worth considering those options too.

Of je weer thuis komt!

Reviewed By Rietje-Henk
