The is attentive to needs of the guest. The location convenient to Valparaiso University, and the hotel is clean. I was there for a conference, and the spouse of another attendee had a minor medical emergency. A staff person took her to urgent care.

I rarely offer a review of a chain hotel, but the staff at the Hampton Inn in Valparaiso, Indiana deserve some praise. They are warm, friendly, and helpful -- everyone from the front desk staff to the breakfast room manager. These folks genuinely care about their guests -- and it shows.

Ants in room everywhere after changing rooms already. Housekeeping came at 10 Am when checkout was at noon. Unbelievable for the price of the room for a night and to see ants and trying to have a decent night sleep with the worry of what other bugs might be around

Located just off the highway, close to everything in Valpo, staff goes out of their way for guests, room clean but a bit outdated, nice big frig, small microwave, coffee maker. Request an even-numbered room for the quiet side of the hotel. Odd-numbered rooms are next to the exit ramp and can be a bit noisy. Rooms have great A/C if you like cold rooms in summer. A small table and 2 chairs in each room. Pool and spa are nice. Breakfast is very good, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, fruit and yogurt.

Stayed overnight while traveling through. Requested a king room and boy did we get a king room! It must have been a double queen room that they replaced the two queen beds with one king because the room looked bare even though there was the normal desk, entertainment area and dresser and a small occasional chair. Bed was comfortable, room was clean. Bathtub area looked new but the tub was very narrow and quite frankly a little dangerous. Just had to be careful. Also the shampoo, soup dispensers were placed on the side wall so that it made the area even narrower. Front desk staff, both evening and morning were very friendly and helpful. In fact the morning front desk gal was handling both the front desk and the breakfast area and doing a great job at both!

What a refreshing departure from the chains! We hold a warm spot in our hearts for Pikk’s Tavern (see review from May 2012) so were pleasantly surprised to see that they had rooms available for rent. It’s more like a suite with a spacious separate sitting area furnished with lovely antiques. The Tavern staff actually does check-in and they are warm and efficient. The bonus is Pikk’s Tavern right downstairs where you always get a great meal.

The Valparaiso Inn, located at 301 Washington Street, is Valparaiso’s only Downtown B&B. It is conveniently located in the Historic Washington Street District, and just a short three block walk from historic Lincolnway, restaurants, shops, boutiques, theaters, Central Park, the Urschell Pavilion, and less than a mile from Valparaiso University. Originally constructed in 1885, it was home for Dr. Horace Evans, Valparaiso University’s President from 1923 -1926. It is recognized as one of Valparaiso’s most significant, storied, and historic structures. It has just undergone a painstaking four year, whole-house restoration. Each of the five guest suites was brought back to its original grandeur, appointed and furnished with exquisite period antiques and a luxurious en-suite bathroom. Luxurious linens and bedding, plush towels, and apothecary are provided. In the morning a multi-course gourmet breakfast with fresh baked muffins and breads is served on stunning china, with crystal and period silver.
We spent the December 23 and 24 at the Valparaiso Inn. It’s a lovely historic home that’s been beautifully renovated from top to bottom. Our hosts were delightful and made our stay absolutely wonderful. And the breakfasts each morning were divine! At such a busy time of year, they made us feel like we were their only priority. Thanks, Jim and Liz, for your outstanding hospitality.
