We stayed two nights at this Route Inn after having stayed in the other Tsuruoka Route Inn. We had a twin room, but it was as small as a single room. Frontdesk staff friendly and very helpful. The hotel offered the usual Route Inn facilities: free parking, free coffee in the lobby, free internet and a decent free breakfast. Route Inns are good for one or two nights, longer stays get a bit uncomfortable because of the very small rooms. I would stay here again.

My first stay. All ok on arrival and room small but very clean. Breakfast included and typical of Japanese business hotels so not quite aligned with non-Japanese tastes. Overall a clean and good hotel.

I stayed at Annex Tamaya. You can enjoy 5 hot springs, the original Kuhei has 2 and Annex Tamaya has 3. The room was Japanese traditional style, but furniture was modern style. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. I enjoyed the stay.

Surprisingly this place was really good, it was clean with many amenities, the buffet breakfast had a lot on offer even icecream, it was also English friendly with a lot of things in English. Probably the only thing going against this place is its location so having a car is a lot more convenient. But I think they have a shuttle bus service if you require it.

I liked all the free different yukatas they propose for women at the entrance. The room was warm and beautiful but I would have liked a bigger outdoor bath. The food is delicious. They even served me vegan meals. I appreciate that. Specify your dietary restrictions and theyll cook you something special

Thus beautiful place with excellent service really helped us when Bookings.com website gave us incorrect information. First let me say that the place, the spa the ambiance are just beautiful and the associated town is Historic with huge temples surrounded by perfectly manicured parks we were there for Fall leaf season and it was Spectacular. The kaiseki dinners were fantastic Now for the problems Like many hot spring places the hotel is a bit isolated so you need to have dinner in the hotel or do without. In this case we booked two identical nights on the Bookings web site but when we got there Bookings had only passed to the hotel one night dinner payment. This is significant since these many course dinners run $100 per person when purchased separately from the room. After wasting hours on the phone trying to resolve this we finally had a bowl of ramen each and called it a night. For Japan reservations in onsen/ryokan/inn type hotels the international web sites MUST be very specific about meals and inclusive amenities.

The Shonai Hotel Suiden Terrace, which opens on August 1, is located next to a rice field on the Shonai Plain to allow visitors to enjoy the scenery during their stay. The restaurant offers meals, carefully prepared with local organic products. The hotel is made up of three wings, each named after one of the 3 sacred mountains (Gassan, Yudonosan and Hagurosan), with 143 rooms in total, and library.
A few of the staff have good English and offered great service. Booked to stay Sunday night which was around Yen 9000 - a bargain! Had lunch and dinner here. Waiter explained the dinner menu but unfortunately it wasn't as described but was pleasant. Other customers seemed to be going for wine pairing. Ordered a glass of house red which was not to my liking but when I asked to change it to house white it was not a problem. Usually in Japan if the two onsen facilities are different they switch the use of them between male and female overnight so everyone can get to enjoy both of them. However, here only the men get to use the outdoor onsen with a view over the water. The women get to use the indoor onsen with a window in the roof.

I went to Tsuruoka for a conference and had a very nice stay at the Hotel Stay In Sanno Plaza. It is simple, but comfortable and very clean. Staff are friendly and English speaking. The hotel is about 15 min walking from the Tsuruoka Station. Wi-fi is not available, but wired Internet is very good.Breakfast was simple, but delicious, with both Japanese and Western style options.
