Laguna Lodge was lovely! Food was good, staff attentive and a personable goodbye from the owner/manager on departure. Special thanks to the excellent guides Primo and Sebastian who were both incredibly knowledgeable and made our two night stay even more enjoyable. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and the lodge is fabulously located. It represents really good value and it was a fantastic start to our Costa Rican adventure. Pura Vida!

The lodge is strategically located only 5 minutes away from the extraordinary Tortuguero National Park, and right across the main "canal" facing the town of Tortuguero. Surrounded by a network of very scenic canals, this is considered one of the most exotic regions of the world, characterized by its rich in flora and fauna. Strategically located. 88 comfortable guest rooms. 14 hectares (34 acres). 5 minutes from Tortuguero National Park main entrance. Stay at one of our comfortable rooms with private bathroom, hot water and ceiling fans. Enjoy all our buffet-style meals that are included. Let's cheers with our wine when for dinner. Be our guest at our bar and enjoy our excelent service. Let us show you this paradise with our bilingual tour guides, during the entire trip. Take advantage of our daily departures from San José, with no minimum of passengers required. Travel safety as we get you around comfortably.
Pachira Lodge is a nice lodge with 88 rooms and most of them are together in separate houses of four rooms together. This is really nice as it provides a more unique experience in the middle of the forest. The tours could have been a little more adventurous but I did like the guides knowledge and high level of service. The rooms are simple, yet functionable. The heat is a little unbearable when there's only a fan and not ventilation or aircondition. It takes a bit to get used to as a Nordic person. I was missing a few things in the room, e.g. a place to hang wet towels. And some sort of table to sit at during the evening when there is nothing else to do in the public areas. There is not much life around the hotel after dinner. It would have been nice with a minibar, a vending machine or a kiosk to buy snacks to enjoy in the room. It is a little annoying to have to go to the bar every single time I needed anyting. Food is....well, let's just say food is being served as an inclusion at the hotel. But I really miss a little more spice and creativity. Three nights at the hotel with the exact same tastes every night. It gets kind of boring pretty quickly. And the staff could be a little more engaged in their job.

Nestled in the heartland of the lush rainforest of Tortuguero Canals, Costa Rica, Mawamba Lodge and Tortuguero National Park are worth visiting year round. What makes us different? *Unbeatable location on a strip of land between the Tortuguero Canals and the Caribbean Ocean, providing direct access to both * The closest Lodge to Tortuguero town within walking distance (no need to take boats to town) * Free WI FI in selected areas of the hotel * Exciting ours including night walks in the forest, kayaking, fishing, canoes, and Katonga floating restaurant for sunset tours or dinners / lunches on board. *Medium-sized, private and quiet
Ideally I’d like to give Mawamba Lodge a 3.5 rating, but as this is not possible I’ve gone for a rather generous 4. Positives: the location is really fabulous with the beach on one side and the river on the other side. Also possible to walk directly into town, which we enjoyed doing. Grounds and common areas are spacious, well looked after and very inviting. Breakfast was fresh and fine. Less positive: The rooms are very rustic. It felt rather like glamping. I didn’t mind the basicness at all, they are however rather tired and only surface clean. Walls are paper thin between rooms. When it is hot outside they are stiffling and damp. When it is cooler outside they get a bit chilly at night. Our room didn’t have a working light on the last leg of the path leading up to it and I didn’t feel at all comfortable walking to it at night in the pitch dark, especially on my own (far away from reception area). I did mention the broken path lighting at the reception but nothing was done about it. The reception staff weren’t very welcoming upon arrival and the lack of information e.g. about facilities and activities/tours etc was extremely lacking. It was also very hard work trying to find out information from them. Some customer service training very much needed! We didn’t find out until we’d been there nearly a whole day that the tap water isn’t drinkable and we only found this out quite by chance ourselves. Getting there, the surroundings, the rugged beach, the wildlife on your doorstep, the commutes by water taxi are all part of the adventure of Tortuguero. A shame that attention to detail isn’t given to the rooms and customer service/experience as well as the lovely surroundings.

Tried to stay here in March of 2020. The photos and reviews online were all good. Arrived on a Sunday after a long trip from La Fortuna. They gave us a drink and showed us to the room which was hot and pretty basic (two fans, no glass on windows etc). About 20 minutes later, we showered and then hear an ungodly banging and circular saws next door about 30 feet from our main window. They're installing a new roof by welding metal piping. This goes on for nearly 2 hours and we complained to no avail. We were hungry so we left to go see about other accommodations, and found something nicer for the same price. Came back and same noise and commotion going on. Told them we're checking out and handed the key and contacted our credit card to remove the charges since none of this was disclosed. They couldn't even tell us how to use the shower to get a lukewarm flow. Hotel is beyond no frills but it was the inconsiderate staff that did it for us. Definitely don't pay cash if you decide to stay here for some reason.

Situated in the center of Tortuguero and only 50 meters from the sea we offer you 11 comfortable rooms surrounded by a beautiful garden. Enjoy the tranquility and peace, relax in our spacious common area with kitchen and look out for the toucans and other animals which frequently visit our garden. And if there is still something missing to feel happy and comfortable – ask us and we will do everything possible to change it!
This Hostel is all you want and need in a place like Tortuguero. Nothing too fancy (not necessary) and nothing missing. The location is spot on and the owner is a nice Dutch lady (bring magazines in Dutch for bonus points!). You wake up, walk to the beautiful beach and get started on your day. Definitely recommended

While you’re here, be sure to check out some of the cafes, including Aracari Bistro and Dorling's Bakery, all of which are a short distance from Casa Marbella. We wanted to stay in the village rather then another resort and somewhere with some character plus excellent experienced guides and we found it all here. Our room 7 overlooks the river and the view is so good although this also means you get the noise from the river traffic which surprisedly for us continued after dark. The room also has no air con tho others do and our first night it was fairly sticky, ok the other nights. In practice the waterfront veranda is where you will spend most of your time. The sink hot water tap was not working so couldn’t shave at the sink. Staff are friendly and the guides terrific.Victor, their resident guide, especially. The hotel also booked our boat back ; essential as it was absolutely full. The boat does drop you off and collect you,The car park at La Pavone is very secure and the roads there from San Jose are good. It’s worth remembering that the room rates are remarkable value!.

Stayed here as part of an organised tour. The town could only be accessed by boat, so all luggage and us were transported on a long skinny boat which was an experience in itself! The lodge had lovely grounds and also was close to the central area where the restaurant and shops were. Rooms were basic with two single beds and a bathroom. A ceiling fan was provided for cooling the room down but this didn’t do a great deal. The room was clean and the window was fitted with a fly screen to stop the mosquitos conning in to . Bathroom however wasn’t great, the sink was hanging off the wall and loose and was covered in black mood. There was a wooden mirror with a little bamboo shelf to put toiletries on but that was also not very clean at all. No fridge in the room to keep anything cold. No safe also. Pool was a nice relief after a hot day though and there was lots of green macaws in the trees which were nice to watch

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It is perfectly located in front of the sea, by the beach (you cannot swim there and they remind you so) away from the nice little village so it is very quiet. I had to change my booking date and they didn't charge me the extra night. They also come to welcome you at the dock to get you to the hotel, which is great service. The rooms are basic but with fan and good wifi to book the park entrance! The staff is super friendly and makes the stay extra special. I did the canoa tour with Roberto and it was great, he knew his stuff. Highly recommended. They also explained to us how to walk in the park and get to the Cerro Tortuguero, which is a must to see the sea, river and canals from up. The walk up is very easy, actually you climb stairs. Very recommended to get a real feel of Tortuguero and Costa RIca.

Surrounded by a network of the scenic canals, this Lodge is located in one of the most exotic regions of the world, characterized by its rich flora and fauna. This lovely lodge has 32 comfortable spacious bungalows with comfortable beds, private bathrooms, hot water and ceiling fans, also there is a beautiful swimming pool. Aninga Lodge has an excellent restaurant and bar service and we also offer bilingual guided tours throughout the Tortuguero area. While designing the place, our priority was to respect the environment, that's why 80% of the hotel is constructed 1.5 m (5 feet) above the ground. Restaurant, bungalows and walking trails are built on stilts, it allows not only to protect the natural habitat of animals but also lets you enjoy the panoramic view of the tropical rainforest. Moreover our determination to preserve the environment inspired us to create a Water Treatment Plant that prevents contamination of the waters in the area.
Aninga Lodge, Pachira Lodge and Evergreen Lodge have the same owners. Pachira has no individual cottages, as is common at the other two. The difference that we learned is that at Aninga, the food was bland. We referred to it as "sustenance" as it was healthy but tasteless and disappointing. We met other guests from Evergreen who raved about the food and the choices, so next time we will definitely stay at Evergreen. The staff was great at Aninga and our cottage was beautiful.

Evergreen is located in the northeastern corner of Tortuguero, 5 minutes by boat from the main entrance to Tortuguero National Park, and accessible only by air and water. Evergreen Lodge is the ideal location from which to explore this unique and magical area, surrounded by towering trees and exuberant vegetation and are adorned with tropical designs. This lovely lodge has 66 comfortable rooms, all are spacious, with comfortable beds, private bathrooms, hot water, and ceiling fans, swimming pool. The property has an excellent restaurant and bar services and offer bilingual guided tours in the area. The beautiful main dinning room with soaring ceilings provides first class meals in an atmosphere that reflects and compliments the jungle paradise surrounding it.
We stayed at this Rainforest Resort as part of a tour. We liked the setting of the resort and the only access by boat, but there were many things we didn't care about. The lack of glass window that contributed to a lot of noise from the neighboring cabins, by the pool and bar. Also the howling monkeys, but that was to be expected and didn't bother us as much as the people and music noise late into the night. The food service contributed to several of our tour group getting sick, which wasn't a good experience while on vacation. Our room was cleaned while we were out, which we hadn't expected so we didn't put things away before we went out. We discovered later that evening that a 7 day container of everyday medicine was missing, which was mostly vitamins and one RX drug. This we felt was inexcusable by the cleaning staff. My rating is based on an organized tour stay, so some parts of the review I can't answer as it didn't apply to our stay.
