Forgotten World Motel offers very clean, warm comfortable accommodation with free WiFi throughout and generous off road parking. It's just a couple of minutes walk down town to restaurants and cafes and we have a supermarket over the road! Let us help you find other activities to enjoy in the area while you are staying with us. Our main attraction is, of course, our Forgotten World Adventure tours either by railcart or jet boat or a combination of both. Otherwise, what about walking the Tongariro Crossing, cycling the Timber Trail, or canoeing the Whanganui River or enjoying a round of golf. We are only 45 minutes drive from the Whakapapa ski fields. All units feature electric blankets, TV's, tea and coffee making facilities and toasters and we have a drying area to help get your gear dry ready for your next activity. Find us at the north end of Taumarunui's main street at 9 Hakiaha St - the gateway to the Forgotten World.
I booked for two nights before and after the rail trip. Was a wee bit worried with what it would be like based on cost. While old and units cost the place was super clean and beds comfortable. Even home made biscuits in kitchen and topped up while on trip. Good value for money

Situated only 7km from the friendly township of Taumarunui, down the incredible Forgotten World Highway, lies Omaka Lodge, a boutique bed & breakfast venue in the heart of New Zealand’s Forgotten World. The short drive out from town follows the Whanganui River and is a beautiful scenic tour at any time of the year. At the end of a tree lined sealed driveway, you’ll find Omaka Lodge and its beautiful mature gardens. Well positioned on the crest of a hill, with magnificent views of Herlihy’s Bluff and Mount Hikurangi, this wonderful venue offers total privacy and seclusion. Situated amidst working farmland, the Lodge and expansive gardens are surrounded by the sights and sounds of everyday country life, where sheep and cattle dot rolling green-pastured hills and valleys that echo to the sound of never-ending birdsong.
We were recommended to play golf at Taumaranui, and hit upon this accommodation which proved to be fabulous! After a warm welcome with a cup of tea and ginger shortbread, and a stroll around their stunning and well-mulched garden, we savoured a delicious candl=llit dinner, overlooking the garden as the sun set. Then a sleep in a very comfortable bed, and a yummy breakfast. Chris and Scott were wonderful hosts - and resulted in a memorable experience that couldn't be faulted! Hopefully, will get back soon. (The golf was good, but not as memorable as this!)

Booked for 1 night, and found it very clean and met all our needs. Definitely not the quietest but was aware of that when we booked it, and had ear plugs. Units were warm and the owner was helpful. Basic motel that ticked the boxes and didn’t break the bank.

The hospitality products we of very good quality. Breakfast was superb, with local and home made produce, beautifully served by Geoff. I’d highly recommend it.

Off the main road so lovely and quite. Our room was very spacious, good sized bathroom and great parking. Kitchen area provided microwave with a good selection of teas/coffees. There is a pool and gym. We were with a tour group and our meals were provided and we were given very generous portions.

We stayed for 2 nights recently. You know what? Sometimes we splash out and stay at some ritzy places and sometimes we do things on a backpacker's budget. It depends on the context. If you're on the Amalfi Coast and it's your 50th wedding anniversary you'll probably want to splash out a bit. If you're in Taumaranui just passing through and you pay backpacker prices but you don't get monogrammed towels and chocolates on your pillows, would you really have a whinge? Apparently so, according to some other reviewers. Maybe engage more with the hosts and enjoy the experience, is my recommendation. Ian, Hanna and All Black (the dog) were very welcoming. Our room was basic but clean, comfortable and quiet. The back gardens were lovely, backing onto the river. There was a BBQ area out the back and we cooked and ate alongside our hosts. Ian and I shared a few glasses of wine and a few tales and all was good! If I ever go back to Taumaranui, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
