A rolling mesa at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Taos has a magical quality. Its rugged beauty, majestic mountains, wild Rio Grande river and unique blend of cultures - Spanish, Native American and Anglo - have historically drawn artists and photographers, evidenced by the plentiful galleries, museums and festivals. To experience the Native American culture here, explore Taos Pueblo, where the Tiwa Native Americans have practiced their traditions for centuries. Finally, the Anglo influence is prevalent in the business district, with its shops, art galleries and some of the finest restaurants in New Mexico. Skiing is also a major draw, but the challenging slopes are geared to the more advanced crowd. There's no rat race here; a fair share of non-mainstreamers have made this laid-back, low-key mecca their home. You, too, may not want to leave its tranquility and natural beauty.

Built in 1820 the Hotel La Fonda de Taos is not only the oldest historic hotel in Taos, and the only hotel located on the historic Taos Plaza. Completely renovated to provide the most current 21st century amenities amid historic, authentic, southwestern atmosphere and architecture. Home to the infamous D.H. Lawrence Forbidden Art collection. "Proudly Serving Starbucks" Noula's Starbucks Cafe. And please visit our RC Gorman Navajo Art Gallery!
Generally I have put relatives up in La Fonda for a treat but I am now looking for somewhere else in Taos. The rooms shown on the online booking system are NOT the room you will secure. For my last reservation it showed a much nicer room. The King with Plaza View that I booked was pokey, dark, small. The Plaza was noisy until well past midnight with motorcycles in parade - going round in circles. Surely someone at the front desk could have suggested this be stopped. Lastly the need to pay for parking is quite ridiculous when the rooms are at the top end for expense. Taos has other great options and I plan on using those in the future.

El Pueblo Lodge hotel in Taos, New Mexico features a centrally-located swimming pool and hot tub within walking distance of the historic Taos Plaza
We stayed at El Pueblo Lodge on May 9. Their check in time is 3pm. We arrived at 1pm and asked if our room might be ready. It was ready and available but they charge an extra $25 for early check in (2 hours), even though we had not made any special request. We do not think is is right for them to fleece their guests $25 when the room was ready and available. We do not recommend El Pueblo Lodge and will not stay there again,

The Taos Inn stands for Taos. J have been coming to the Inn for many years. The location is great. And so is the bar and dining room. They have sufficient parking in the back. Which adds to the convenience. The rooms are ready for a complete renovation, though.

A historic Taos landmark, the Sagebrush Inn opened in 1929 as a 17 room hotel, catering to guests traveling by carriage along the trade route between New York and Arizona. Today, the newly restored Sagebrush Inn & Suites offers 156 graciously appointed guestrooms and suites, onsite dining, meeting and event space, and much more. A mix of modern comforts and conveniences surrounded by historic Southwestern charm. The Inn's scenic grounds offer graceful portals, patios, and traditional brick walkways connecting courtyards ideal for gathering, all with spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. With an outdoor swimming pool and beautiful courtyards, finding somewhere to unwind is easy at Sagebrush Inn & Suites. Interiors feature a classic Southwestern art collection by some of the most well respected regional artists, traditional kiva-style fireplaces, authentic hand carved furniture and other historic touches.
Sagebrush Inn and Suites really went above and beyond for me. I was in the area fighting the wildland fire and the night clerk offered me a steep discount out of the blue. My room was huge, clean, and tastefully decorated in traditional southwest style including aspen log accents and a working stucco wood fireplace. After 21 days on the line this high desert oasis was just what I needed.

Just three blocks from Taos Plaza, El Monte Sagrado Living Resort and Spa offers a secluded yet indulgent sanctuary. In harmonious coexistence with its natural setting, El Monte Sagrado is surrounded by towering mountains and rustic high desert, sunlit, fish-filled streams, tropical flora and the sounds of calming waterfalls. Guests are inspired by the nurturing ambiance and mystique of the resort.
I always need a massage, but I REALLY needed a massage after 3 days of almost non-stop driving across the country. And hoo boy, did I stumble upon a gem. I cannot recommend Benito's deep tissue massage enough. I told him what hurt and why and he know exactly what to do without me having to walk him through it. He wasn't afraid to really go hard on my (many) knots. I was putty in his hands. And he is super attentive; there were so many little details that I wouldn't allow myself to fall asleep because I wanted to see what came next. If you're ever in or near Taos, go to this hotel and ask for BENITO. Spring for the 90 minutes. I know it's not cheap, but it is SO worth it. The only criticism I can offer is that he lives in New Mexico and I don't :(

The perfect place to relax between Taos adventures. Now featuring The Espresso Bar serving Peet's coffee.
Taos Valley Lodge is a great place to spend the night. Unfortunately, the southwestern atmosphere does not extend into the rooms, which are neat and clean, but this is more than compensated for by the first rate staff. The night shift was welcoming, solicitous, and helpful dealing with my booking and other questions, and Jennifer was a delight to speak with on the phone to request a late checkout.

Experience the Historic Taos ambiance of the Inn on La Loma Plaza, located 2 1/2 blocks from the historic downtown Plaza. The Inn, sequestered behind high adobe walls, provides intimate and luxurious accommodations. There are some fantastic things about this Inn. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are unique, the area is quiet and residential, there is a lot of interesting memorabilia around. The staff member we most interacted with, Lucinda, was so sweet and accommodating. The walk to town is ok. The sidewalk is across a busy street, although you can walk along side of the road. I'd agree with the score of 76, "somewhat walkable". There is a two week cancellation policy, and I really try to avoid making reservations that are that restrictive. Because, things happen, like Covid and wildfires. Peggy was kind enough to point out that she would provide a "rain check" if we cancelled, that is really not very helpful, as we are from Ohio, and if this trip didn't happen as planned, I was unsure if we would ever reschedule this trip. She did allow us five days prior, which was accommodating and appreciated. Breakfast was very tasty, although the methods were a bit odd. You must choose every single item you want "down to each pat of butter", the day before. And, you have to choose the time you want to eat, in half hour increments. Yes, I know...Covid. But this really puts a damper on the care-free vacation feeling that most travelers cherish. And, every other hotel we stayed at during our trip was back to regular breakfast buffets. So, as I said. Mostly good.

Palacio de Marquesa is a small, quaint 8 room bed and breakfast. We are located 1/2 mile from historic, Taos Plaza where you can visit many historic sites, museums, galleries, shops & restaurants. Palacio was built in the 1920s and is built on 7/10 of an acre. Our 8' high walls and seventeen old growth cottonwood trees offer unparalleled privacy in a stunning natural setting. Our sister property the El Monte Sagrado is also located 1/2 mile away and offers many additional amenities including pool, hot tub, spa, valet, and 15% discounts on food and beverage during your stay.
We were expecting so much from this B&B , having read the reviews. There are positives in that it is situated in a quiet street very close to the plaza and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was tasty but there was not much variety. The grounds are in need of some t.l.c. and looked very sad and forgotten about. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The bathroom needed to be cleaned more thoroughly as did the sitting room area. Outside, the metal chairs were not wiped down. It just felt that staff were not going over and above to make sure that guests were comfortable. For the price we would have expected a much higher quality of service and accommodation.
