The Minffordd Hotel in Talyllyn valley, Mid Wales is set in probably the most breathtaking scenery in Britain and is literally situated at the base of the Cader Idris with the summit being 1 1/2 miles NW of the hotel, the start of the Minffordd path is 5 mins away. The original parts of the building are over 400 years old so as you Would expect the walls are very thick and there are plenty of originally features such as the original wood beams which can be seen throughout the building and our log fire which is a key feature during the winter months.
I stayed here for 8 days as a base for visiting various parts of Wales. The hotel is a lovely old building with loads of character.I believe it is about 450 years old with lots of wooden beams. It is tastefully decorated and very comfortable and warm.It is in a very useful location whereby you can easily get to other areas and the scenery is fabulous being surrounded by mountains. It is 5 mins walk to the start of the route up Cader Idris and there is a ruined castle nearby.Breakfast is perfect with lots of choice and they do lovely dinners in the evening. There are even homemade cajes to purchase. The ginger flapjack is gorgeous! The host,Gordon is very helpful and friendly. You won’t find a better place to stay at the price.Would definitely return

The Pen-y-Bont Hotel in Talyllyn is a 16th Century Coaching Inn situated on the South West shore of Llyn Mwyngil (Talyllyn Lake) in Southern Snowdonia, Wales. Our location at the foot of Cadair Idris is magical and uniquely beautiful, the views you see here are shown by many yet only fully seen from our premises. We offer a warm welcome to all our visitors and share our knowledge of the local area, helping you to get the most out of your stay in this serene Celtic landscape. Many Welsh myths are centred here, and the landscape is untouched by development. Within the valley we have virtually no mobile phone signals, although there is free WiFi throughout the Hotel Building & we have Flat screen TVs in all the rooms. We have five rooms, a Bar and a Restaurant. Our Beer Garden is where you can see Talyllyn at it's best, and is a sensational place to eat on a warm Summer's day. At other times you can cosy up by one of our log fires in the Fireside Restaurant and Bar. Come and enjoy our Home-cooked meals with Real Chips and Real Ale, in one of the most stunning locations in Wales.
Just the most wonderful long weekend in a fabulously authentic original 16th coaching house. 1st class personal attention from our hosts Angela and Brian. Super Welsh cooked breakfasts, epic evening meals! (That homemade beef pie ?), the hospitality was just flawless. If you want a polished modern 4 star hotel, this is maybe not for you, however if you want simply the best Welsh hospitality in a quaint, ye oldé character filled property with 2 of the most welcoming hosts? Pen-y-Bont on the lake is fab!

Simon and Liz would love to welcome you to Dolffanog Fach. Our aim is to provide the warm and friendly welcome of a traditional B&B with the standards and special touches you would expect from a boutique hotel. Unlike most B&Bs we do not "live in", we have a little cottage just next door so you don't need to feel as though you are staying in someone's home. We have 4 lovely double bedrooms, a sitting room with a log fire and a beautiful dining room with a slate floor and wood burning stove. Our dining room is big enough to accommodate individual tables for each guests but small enough to be cosy and allow you to chat to other guests if you wish. We have a large garden that you are welcome to explore - including a full vegetable garden! We also have a Finnish Sauna which is just perfect after a long day's hike or cycle in our astonishingly beautiful surroundings. If you are a walker or mountain biker then we can offer you our "Boots & Bikes" Room. Secure storage for your bikes, boots, helmets and clothes and we can also offer laundry facilities. Our breakfasts are designed to really set you up for the day and also offer plenty of variety if you are staying for more than a few days. You could stay for a week and have a different breakfast every day! We really want to offer our guests value for money and put a lot of effort into the little things, the biscuits in the rooms are homemade and freshly baked, the milk is fresh and the coffee is ground and there are lots of other little touches that guests always comment on and say how much they make a difference. Children of any age are more than welcome and we also welcome dogs and they are allowed in the rooms and sitting room, we don't permit them in the dining room but you are welcome to leave them in the bedrooms while you eat. We hope you'll come and stay with us, we can promise you a friendly welcome, lovely rooms, delicious food, glorious surroundings and a truly relaxing stay.
Nice quiet place at foot of Cadir Idris We stayed in the Rowling room which had a perfect view of the mountain. Friendly couple running the place and the breakfast was outstanding (didn’t need lunch most days) Best of all no phone signal !
