We have been here several times in the past , always found it immaculately clean, Warm, dry and quiet, we often choose a one bedroom suite which is reasonably priced and good value for money – highly recommended..

Made a late booking a couple of hours before arriving at 8pm. Manager had put heater and light on for me, much appreciated. Units are basic and older style, but very very clean, and a great comfy bed. Had a great sleep. Would stay again for sure.

A family run business now into its 3rd generation of raft guides, River Valley started as a rafting company on a family farm, in the back blocks of Taihape. With one of the world's top half day Grade 5 rafting trips literally on the doorstep, it was a natural progression. A horse trekking stables was added over time, and it is these two adventurous activities, rafting the beautiful Rangitikei River, and exploring the magnificent hill country which is at core of River Valley. The Lodge caters for a mix of clientele, with an accommodation mix from deluxe riverside ensuite rooms, to bunk rooms. There are also 2 meeting rooms available for hire, for corporate use or private events and weddings. The Lodge restaurant and cafe serves a selection of fresh farm-to-table food, much not only prepared on site, but also grown in the extensive vegetable gardens. If shopping and cell phone reception are critical to your daily existence, then River Valley is certainly not the place for you.
River Valley is a gem. I stayed here for three days en route from Wellington to Auckland. I spent my time rafting, riding horses, swimming in the river and eating delicious home-cooked food. In between activities, I relaxed by the river with a good book in the afternoon sunshine. I left with a heavy heart and would gladly have stayed for longer. Here are the reasons why I love River Valley: - Consistently friendly, well-run and welcoming - Wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets; always clean and tidy - First-class activities, with instructors that really know the landscape - Excellent food, mostly grown on-site in the kitchen garden - Hot tub, 2x saunas + river swimming - Clearly run with vision and care. Everyone is welcome; other guests included families, couples, solo travellers and cycle/horse tourists on longer trips. If you're thinking about stopping off here...do it! This is a gorgeous spot and it deserves to known throughout New Zealand.

The Rusty Nail secluded spot overlooks Taihape with a breathtaking view of Mount Ruapehu, 10 minutes walk from the township. Providing a great central location as well as peace and quiet. In the heart of NZ's best scenery with adventure at your doorstep - bungy, white water rafting, tramping, trout fishing, hunting, jet boating, horse treks and snow skiing in winter. Taihape offers great shopping, night entertainment with that country atmosphere.
I booked in very last minute and the host was so lovely and very welcoming. The facilities were nice and comfortable, and a stunning location! Would absolutely stay again and recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Taihape!

My room was basci but very clean and surprisingly quiet. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The bar menu was pretty basic but I did enjoy my burger. I'd recommend the Gretna for an overnight stay.
