This hotel is found on one of the most breathtaking forests I've been to. The place, Bad Tabarz, is so wild; there were Squirrels everywhere. The staff saved my day. I only wanted to visit my grandmother at the Rehabilitation Center on her birthday and needed a place to stay over night. We celebrated and had too much fun. I couldn't leave her until it was too late that it was already dark outside. I was lost in the forest and I couldn't find my way. The waiter found me and he brought me to the hotel. I only needed a single bed but got a double bed instead upgraded by the nicest receptionists in the place. I was exhausted and believe me when I tell you that their sauna took all the stress away. The swimming pool is a highlight and night swimming alone was the epitome of greatness. I couldn't stop ordering their coffee with icecream that I'm thinking I got addicted to it already. A big compliment to the waiter whose passion is to help others; he started my day by touching me with his smile! Thankyou so much for the night! 10/10 will recommend and even come back with my friends for my birthday!

The Hotel Zur Post is the one of two Akzent hotels in Tabarz, the other being Hotel Am Burgholz. It is more centrally located, about a five-minute walk from the end stop of the Thueringerwaldbahn tram line from Gotha. This is the reason that I chose it for my one-night stay, as a longer walk with a big suitcase was not appealing. I was arriving via the tram, and did not anticipate a taxi service in such a small town. The walk from the Thueringerwaldbahn stop to the hotel lead me past what looked like the center of Tabarz: a few shops, a bank, a tiny fountain and no crowds. The hotel is perhaps another 150m further. The hotel building reminds of some bygone era (perhaps from before the German reunification?), and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more than 30 years old. However, it looks very well kept on the outside, and the same can be said of the inside spaces. Check-in at the small reception desk was quick and efficient, and soon I was on the way to my room. It was upstairs, on the side of the street. Normally, I would have concerns about noise, but in Tabarz, noise is not an issue. The room had a little balcony area, and I was amazed at how quiet and peaceful it was just standing there and looking over at the motionless street. Bird chirps were pretty much the only sounds. The room itself was fair sized, with a nice, remodeled bathroom. Apart from the bathroom, the room certainly felt like it was designed many moons ago. But again, everything was in pristine shape and working. My one big negative for the room and the hotel was lack of air conditioning. At least, I could not see the climate controller anywhere in the room. This was not really an issue during my stay, as the temperatures were moderate, but could be a significant problem during one of the many European heatwaves that seem to occur these days. The night’s sleep was wonderful: even with the windows cracked open, the room was ultra-quiet, at least until the birds started to wake up. I had to vacate the room fairly early the next morning, and still had only about 10 minutes for breakfast. The buffet looked wonderful, and the quick choices that I made certainly backed that feeling. I only wish that I had more time to enjoy the morning meal in the bright dining area. Check-out went smoothly and the stay was over. The lady at the front desk was all smiles and very friendly, as was the lady during check-in. In fact, all staff at the Hotel zur Post seemed very nice. I’m not sure if everyone spoke English though, as this is a very small town. Overall, this was a very nice, albeit brief, stay.

Durchschnittskaffee.
