Now that casinos have spread in South Africa, Sun City is no longer the only gaming hotspot in the country, but it's still visually dramatic. Located two hours from Johannesburg, it's a sprawling complex of luxury hotels, restaurants and Vegas-style shows on the edge of Pilanesberg Game Reserve.

Cabanas hotel offers guests a contemporary twist and great ‘base’ to explore the resort. As the sun sets over the open spaces and rolling lawns the nights begin at the Cabanas Pool Deck, with chic cocktails and a vibrant island setting. No other resort in South Africa has as wide a variety of accommodation options as Sun City. If you’re looking for unsurpassed 5-star luxury, something to suit the whole family, or your own comfortable unit away from the crowds – we’ve got everything you need. Each hotel has its own unique style, character and attractions. These are your five Sun City accommodation options: The Palace of the Lost City, part of the Sunlux Collection. The 5-star Cascades hotel is elegant, comfortable and central to all of Sun City’s attractions. The flamboyant 4-star Soho hotel boasting the Sun City Casino where all the action is. The 3-star Cabanas hotel and the self-catering time share option, Sun Vacation Club.
We parked, checked in, and went to ask for porter to assist with our bags from the car at parking, porter said I must bring the car to the reception so that they can take the bags. I got irritated a bit, because I saw them collecting other people's bags from packing when I came in. We moved our own bags from car to the hotel lobby. Good gentlemen came to assist to move them to room 2363. We get to the room it was not made up. Now I am really getting irritated. Luckily the gentlemen that helped with the bags went to the reception to go sort it out. They gave us room 2362. What a way to welcome paying guests. Besides the bad check in experience, it was a good stay. We actually used our rooms to sleep and freshen up as we spent most of the time outside, enjoying the last summer days. We arrived Thursday there was good crowd, weekend got really busy. Been to sun city before staying at cascades, cabanas is nicely open for the kids, but I'll use other hotels next time.

Soho is located at Sun International’s flagship resort, Sun City. Originally built in 1979 and named Main Hotel, the hotel was recently rebranded to encapsulate the essence of the renowned Soho destinations located in London and New York – known for their popularity with the in-crowd, eclectic vibe and non-stop action. Sun City’s other hotels – the Cabanas opened in 1980, Cascades in 1983 and The Palace of the Lost City in 1992 – each have strong identities and are independent brands under the Sun City banner. The new brand launches the ‘always on’ Soho hotel, boasting the iconic casino that started it all alongside a host of food and beverage outlets, revitalised bars and nightclubs. The Sun City Theatre inside Soho has been transformed to make space for the millennial bar called Vibes and the nightclub Encore, a modern dance venue. The Revue Bar offers adult entertainment for discerning guests, while the Prive Salon welcomes high-rolling gaming guests.
Staff attitude, room cleanliness and terrible breakfast just shocking. The hot water comes out brown. Pipe stench near the casino. Everything in this hotel needs to be refurbished. I would fire all staff and get people who understand hotel management.

Tumbling water flowing through a tropical forest gives The Cascades hotel in South Africa its name and firmly positions it as one of the most sought-after Sun City accommodation destinations. Experience the romance of the elegant Cascades hotel as you discover the Big 5 in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve or meander underneath the lush forest canopy. Waiting a stone’s throw away from Johannesburg is luxurious accommodation, sophisticated entertainment and the Gary Player Golf Course
I recently traveled to South Africa to visit business clients for a week, and it was suggested we stay here for a couple of nights to relax. What a great idea this turned out to be !!! Check was great. Room was great. Staff where great. The whole complex was great. What more can I say, other than I will be back soon with the family to fully enjoy a vacation !!!

After two weeks on safari in the Kgaligadi Transfrontier Park, Augrabies and Kruger National Parks, we were ready for some rest and relaxation at Sun City. We booked the Bush Bungalows several months ahead so that we were assured of a quiet spot away from the crowds in the hotels. We arrived late afternoon with a huge thunderstorm brewing. We checked into our bungalow, unloaded the car and settled in as quickly as possible. The first thing that was not right was the fridge. It had been turned off at the wall, hidden behind the fridge in an alcove! We did not know where the switch was and so called out the manager who fixed it quickly but it was annoying as we had to wait for it to cool down. With the light fading fast and the rain threatening, we jumped back into the car and headed up to the hotels to check them out and make a selection for dinner before the light was gone completely and the thunderstorm arrived. The first impression of Sun City was one of total disbelief. It is the most extraordinary place. No expense has been spared but a lot of it is so over the top in extravagance and ostentatious tastelessness that you cannot describe it. It does have a beauty of its own in parts but some it is just out of this world. We decided to eat in the African buffet which was fun and the food selection was excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive and it was good value. We had driven a very long way that day and were desperate to get to bed and so we headed back to our chalet for much needed sleep. I awoke at around 5.30am the next morning (as had been our habit on safari) and discovered that the A/C unit had dripped all night long into my carry-on case. The contents were soaking wet! I went for a shower and discovered that it leaked across the floor, parts of the shower unit were loose or missing, the soap dish was hanging down at an angle and would not hold the soap and finally the bath mat was soaked through from the leaking shower. A wooden spar on the towel rail was broken and worst of all, there was no plug for the basin! Having discovered all this in a short space of time I came to the conclusion, having slept very badly on the rock-hard bed, complete with the lumpiest pillows I have ever experienced, that we could not stay the full three nights in that bungalow. I dressed and presented myself at reception at 7 am to await the arrival of the manager. She was a quarter of an hour late for work, which did not help. Once at her desk I reeled off the faults and demanded, politely, to be accommodated in another bungalow or up at the hotel. It was just not acceptable and not up to scratch. She seemed out of her depth and unable to to deal with any of the complaints about the room. Neither did she apologise until I pointed out that she had not done so! I suggested that we went for breakfast and whilst we were gone, perhaps she could sort out alternative accommodation. I returned to our bungalow, woke my husband and, having informed him of my discoveries in the short-comings of the room, told him we had to move. The phone rang at that moment and I was asked to call the manager at the Cabanas Hotel to advise her of the issues. I did as asked and after breakfast, having had a conversation with the Cabanas manager en route, we were moved to a ground floor room at the hotel. It was so much more comfortable it was like being in another world. They provided feather pillows, a sheet as well as a duvet for the bed and later that day a bottle of wine and some nibble appeared as an apology. It was such a waste of time having to complain and then move but they must learn that they cannot take good money for accommodation if it is not up to standard. The bush bungalows, beautifully sited, are just not good enough.

This is an honest post. Please I beg you not to stay here as it is the worse hotel in the world. Let alone the state of the rooms with no electricity due to dodgy wiring. The guests staying next door are smoking drugs which is against hotel policy and due to communal balcony keep knocking on my window and blasting loud music and it's gone past midnight. Despite 4 calls with reception, nothing was done to move these guests.
