Very good hotel - a few things could be improved

Reviewed By KarMac200

We had a great stay in Der Postwirt Hotel! The hotel is well equiped and fantastic for couples and for families with children. The family spa and the adult spa are amazing, this is an unique feature. You can leave your kids at the kids club, where they can play under supervision, while you can enjoy a bit of quality time with your partner in the adult spa, we loved this. Plus points: Great breakfast, with local products and egg specialties that can be individually ordered Very good beds Nice afternoon snack when you come back hungry from the slopes Very child friendly! Friendly staff Well located, ski bus stops around the corner Very clean The ‘new/renovated’ part of the hotel is very warm and cosy yet modern I would like to give the hotelkeepers a few tips. A few things could be improved, especially given the fact that is is a 4 star hotel which is also very expensive. Things that could be improved: We stayed in a ‘familiennest’ room in the old wing. The room was very dark with very small windows (we expected better based on the pictures on the website). The bathroom was very small. For the price of the room (around 300 euro a night), this does not feel right. No elevator available in the old wing - so not ideal while carrying a lot of luggage or a child stroller :-) up the stairs. For a 4 stars hotel, the food could be better and more refined, especially the mail course at diner. This was a bit disappointing. The course was not of high standards - which is not in line with the 4 stars and the quality you get in other 4 stars hotels in the austrian alps. The coffee from the coffee machine was not good, it did not taste well. I would recommend the hotelkeepers to offer individually ‘handmade’ coffee specialties at breakfast instead of an automated industrial machine. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much!

Be very careful!

I booked to stay at this property for a ski break in Jan 2022. In December 2021 the owner agreed to free cancellation with 7 days notice. Due to Covid 19 issues I cancelled with 8 days to go and called to confirm that the room was cancelled. The owner, Christof, confirmed that everything was ok and that the booking was removed from the system. On January 3rd 2022 he charged my credit card €2,509 and refuses to return it. My advice, be very careful if you are dealing with this man and do not give him your credit card details.

Great food and location

Reviewed By P5552GEcd

We stayed at Hotel Eggerwirt in February 2022 and had a lovely time. There was lots of choice at breakfast, however, there were never any croissants/pastries which I’m sure would’ve been popular with a lot of guests. Dinner was great. There was always a different soup (personal favourite was the pumpkin), a salad bar with lots of different choice, a choice between three main courses, and a dessert. The main courses were always very cosy and usually traditional Austrian food. The hotel had a ski storage room in the basement and the ski bus stopped right outside. But we actually thought it was better to rent a spot in the garage at the ski resort (it was something like €10 for the week) and just walk for about 15 mins without any gear every morning. The hotel room was quite small but big enough. Space for 2 suitcases under the bed and the snowboard box fit outside on the balcony. The only negative about the room was the shower, as the shower head was in the middle of the bath and mounted very low. There was no shower curtain so it was impossible to stand up and have a shower without the water going all over the floor. It was fine for the week and we didn’t complain so it is possible that they could have offered us a different room if we did! We had a great stay!

Wonderful for skiing/boarding

If you enjoy relaxing in a spa after a hard day on the slopes this hotel will really top the bill! - the size, design and finish quality of the new wellness suite is just superb! Check the photos, it offers so much. My favourite way to start the relaxing was lying in the steam room dozing under gentle drips of warm water - soothes aches away. The welcome, the outlook, and rest of the hotel is lovely too - cheerful, traditional and smooth running, and the meals are (too) delicious.

Fifth visit - not disappointed!

We first came here in 2016 on on a ski trip With Crystal, and liked it so much we have returned independently ever since. There have been a lot of expansions and upgrades to the hotel since that first visit, and this time we were delighted to have a very pretty Tyrollean themed room. Good remains as plentiful as ever, and there is always a good choice of main courses. The pistes here are varied and extensive, and suit all levels of ability.

Amazing hotel for outstanding food and wine

Reviewed By Vicki F

We stayed here for 1 week’s skiing. We love good food and wine and we were not disappointed in any way by the standard, variety and quality of food at breakfast and dinner. All the wines we had were lovely, and we enjoyed the variety of different decanters used :-). We usually stay in catered chalets but this trip has made us broaden our searches for our next ski holiday it was so good. The hotel is a 5 min walk into the centre of Soll and probably a 15 min walk to the gondola. The ski bus stops directly outside of the hotel though (the pink and blue lines) so there’s always a bus not far away to take you straight to the slopes. We hired space to put our skis and boots in at the bottom of the gondola which was very convenient- we’d really recommend doing this (this was at the Sporthaus Edinger)- though if you don’t want to do this, the hotel has a dedicated boot room to store your gear overnight We used the swimming pool, sauna and steam room - all quiet and nicely done. Looking out into the slopes from the pool was relaxing. Our stay was in one of the cheapest rooms - regardless, it was comfortable, spacious and had a balcony looking towards the mountains. The staff were all amazing and could not do enough to help in any way. We would highly recommend Der Greil to anyone staying in Soll.
