Desert Homestead Lodge

The wide grassy valley in which the lodge is situated is sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft Mountains with a view reaching the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west. In this exquisite position, the lodge offers stylish accommodation in thatched chalets which were designed with the fragile beauty of this remarkable environment in mind. Desert Homestead Lodge will ensure an unrivalled respite from the desert extremes. Tranquil surroundings, al fresco dining, delectably fresh farm cuisine, refreshing dips in the pool, stunning sunsets and sunrises are the basic pleasures at the lodge. And meandering across endless plains or discovering ancient water courses on a beautifully groomed steed is a magical and alternative way to appreciate the surroundings. The final remnants of each day see nature at her most profound. Rugged landscapes bathed in hues of pastel ... a truly humbling experience.

Dead Valley Lodge

The Dead Valley lodge is situated inside the Namib – Naukluft Park, in-between Seriem and Elim Dune on the D826 road leading to the world-famous Dead Valley at Sossusvlei. The lodge offer twenty (20) free standing climate-controlled luxury tented chalets each with a panoramic view of the Namib Desert with towering red sand dunes, rugged mountain ranges, and arid desert savannahs.

Luxury Tents maybe, but freezing in winter

Reviewed By UkCorporate_gal

We arrived at Dead Valley Lodge after having stayed at Kwessi Dines in the Namib-Rand. The staff were very welcoming and the “luxury” tents were very nicely done out and very spacious, with proper wardrobes, a refrigerator and a separate tented bathroom. We ended up in the back row of tents, which meant that if we wanted to pop to the bathroom, the people in the front row could see you if they were coming around the side of their tent to go out! Bit weird in terms of the set up. We had a sunrise tour of the dunes at Sossusvlei as part of our package and that was very good, with a breakfast picnic at the dunes after the sunrise, as well as a walk to Dead Vlei too. The real downer on the stay was the weather. It was freezing and blowing a gale, whipping the sides of the tent so much that the winds were coming into it. There was no heating inside the tent and the last night we were there, the management decided that, despite the chill temperatures and raging gale, they would have an outside buffet! All the guests were wrapped in blankets shivering, the buffet wasn’t lit so you couldn’t see the food and the chefs were struggling to run the BBQ without setting their hair on fire and it was an absolute disaster, to the extent we didn’t actually stay outside to eat. We complained at the time but the Assistant Manager wasn’t much help and even the following morning when we mentioned it again to one of the main managers, he blamed the staff! Nice in the summer I’m sure, but we won’t be visiting that lodge again

Wow, wow, wow- have stayed in a large number of lodges, but you guys just know how things work. Have stayed in more expensive lodges as well this year but your service is the best. Everyone is so friendly, the rooms have everything you need and comfortable beds, big showers. Amazing views, quiet mornings just the desert around you, food was amazing. The avtivities and tour guides were fantastic. Cannot fault one single thing here, except we were sorry to leave.... Tip to future travellers to the area, Sossusvlei Lodge has a large number of wonderful activities, book with them directly. Do not book via Viator.com as there are tour operators that will completely rip you off, unfortunately happened to us where the tour operator charged us almost 3x what Sossusvlei Lodge ask...

Good camping

Very well situated camp site with garage and small shop and within easy distance of Soussusvlei. Even though some of the sites are next to the main road there are so little traffic after sunset that it doesn't cause any noise issues. Excellent shower with plenty hot water and own private bathroom well laid out and spacious. Well worth the money

Hoodia Desert Lodge

Outstanding hospitality in a stunning location!

Reviewed By rob103

There's a very good reason why Hoodia Desert Lodge has received over 400 "Excellent" ratings on Trip Advisor-- they are richly deserved! The lodge itself is just lovely and it is located in an absolutely stunning location. The individual rooms (mini-lodges, actually) are beautifully appointed and very comfortable, and the meals were just delicious. Our host, Thomas Becker, could not have been more welcoming and hospitable, as was true of the rest of his staff. Because we were traveling with our own guide, the only activity that was arranged for us by the Lodge was a "sundowner" on our last night there, but it was truly special. The spectacular setting was carefully chosen for optimal sunset views, and the drinks and hors d'oeuvres were excellent. I have included a few photos which hopefully will not get lost in the gallery of more than 600 photos that other guests have posted. We highly recommend this lovely facility!
