Good place to stay near Serra do Cipó. You can easily walk to restaurants and bars downtown, but will need a car or tour guide to visit the National Park. The rooms are clean and simple, the resort has lots of common space - pools, game room, etc. The breakfast is a perfect start to a day of hiking to the waterfalls. It's not a luxury place, but inexpensive, clean, and comfortable for a few days.

This is a very sweet pousada in the heart of Serra do Cipó. Great location to go for hikes. I especially liked the litte amenities like the pool and the hammocks on the porch of every room. It was very kind that we were allowed to check out late (~5 p.m.), since the rooms were not needed for the following night.

This Pousada is a remodeled farm house artfully redecorated by Rubia; her husband Joaquin is full of information and genorosity. He let us us stash our gear after checking out, let us come back and not only change clothes but shower too. Then he gave us some juice and food before we went on our way. A very gnerous host indeed. Our room was a tad small, but had a balcony. Nice grounds, there is a pool, great breakfasts (as everywhere in Brazil). We were very close to the entrance to Serra de Cipo National Park; the 8 mile hike to La Forofa waterfall is great. We also drove about 2 hrs to hike to El Tabuleiro, a ver spectacular fall, third highest in Brazil. Take a guide for that if you go--very strenuous, probably a 800 foot down cimb to get there and then the same back up.

We came to Serra do Cipó on a birdwatching trip. The owner was very helpful. Even though we spoke almost no Portuguese, we were able to communicate through the use of Google translate. He even gave us a 5 o'clock breakfast, very important for birders. The room was nice with comfortable beds and slow, but working WiFi. Only complaint (and the only reason the review is not 5 stars) is that the water in the shower was not hot. It was warmer than the cold water, but still cool. Otherwise a great time in a beautiful location.

We visited this hotel for the 3rd time in an 8 year period in January 2016. The newest additions, since our last visit, were two beautiful pools that overlook a scenic canyon on the backside of the property. The lobby area is just beautiful. They serve a large variety of items for breakfast and if you don't see what you want, just ask and the staff and they will prepare it for you. The food served during breakfast and the cakes served during the 2 pm tea time were very good. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Paulo was especially helpful. We wanted to take a jungle hike and Paulo was nice enough to escort us on a 1 1/2 hour hike, in the national park near the hotel, on his day off. The lady that works the bar at the pool (we forgot to ask her name) catered to our every need and was eager to make our stay enjoyable. The food served at the bar was very good, especially the french fries, they are to die for! For each of our 3 visits, we stayed in a different room each time. The rooms were nice and included netting for the bed. The showers had plenty of water pressure and had plenty of hot water. The bathroom was very clean. The walk to town is fairly easy since it's mostly a down hill hike. The walk back to the hotel can be a bit trying after walking around town most of the day and then having to walk up hill. I would recommend taking a car back and forth to save time.

Pousada aconchegante, muita área verde, próxima aos bares e restaurantes. Ótimo custo-benefício. E o proprietário Alamir é muito atencioso. Tem cachoeiras muito bonitas na serra do Cipó como a Serra Morena. Recomendo. Vale a pena a visita.

Take care: this hostel also seems to call itself Pousada Adega Cipo. Nice place to stay with several rooms around a nice garden with small swimming pool. Although we did see a dorm, I consider this place more of a pousada than a hostel. We had a very spacious double room for 100 reais, excellent value for money. The room was clean and equipped with a double bed plus a bunk bed. Large bathroom with hot water. The breakfast is served on the small porch outside. Very tasteful and plenty to eat. A nice place to relax (at the swimming pool) and enjoy the sounds of the birds around. A bit hard to find (located on a dirt road parallel to the main road), but with private parking. Only service was a bit slow. Excellent place (the town is called Cardeal Mota) to explore the Serra do Cipo NP, which is highy recommended!

Comfortable suites for your leisure and rest in the Serra do Cipo, Minas Gerais - Brazil Suites hotel online with litter box, ceiling fan, fridge, tv, wifi and full bedding and bath. Parking at the inn.
We wanted to spend a week or so visiting the Serra do Cipó national park in Minas Gerais, and needed somewhere close by that would not be too expensive. Our choice from many, many options, the Pousada Pepalantus, was right on. Just off the main highway (MG 010) on a dusty side street but within easy walking distance of everything in Cardeal Mota, the gateway village, this 10-room guest house offers a simple breakfast of packaged juice, fresh fruit (papaya, banana, melon), bread rolls, jams, honey and butter, sliced ham and cheeses, a saveloy hot dish, cheese puffs and coffee and milk included in the daily rate (about USD30 for our 7-day stay, half in advance, half on arrival, CC). There are no other meals provided. The owner Flávio was very attentive and helpful during our prior contact, and after our arrival gave us a detailed map and made sure we knew what we were doing, providing useful local knowledge and making our stay informed and enjoyable overall. He gave us an upstairs suite (#9) away from the dining room which was good as the house was usually more than half full every night, although quiet in general. Some noisy neighbors in the guest house over the back fence. Our room was adequate for two with suitcases and hiking apparel and included a small refrigerator, TV, air conditioner and plenty of stands, shelves and tables for getting organized. The bed and mattress were good, especially after our long hikes, with well used but very clean linen and towels, changed every two days when the room was serviced. The bathroom was smallish but satisfactory, given the inexpensive rate. As it was winter, we didn't use the air conditioning, even though the windows and door faced west into the afternoon sun, a nice sight from the balcony. This room might be hot in summer. The downstairs rooms are protected by the veranda and might be cooler in summer. There is also a leisure area a couple of houses down the street with a pool, loungers and an enclosed trellised area for just hanging out. The well-chosen guest house name 'Pepalanthus' derives from a genus of a peculiar cerrado flowering plant, Paepalanthus (likely polyanthus, one of several species found in the region), beautiful to see flowering in the park. So, in all, we had a good stay at a reasonable price with no complaints.
