Great place to stay for the Dales Way

Reviewed By AKS994

We stayed with Neil and Lesley at Daleslea for 3 nights, whilst walking 2 legs of the Dales Way. The B and B is really handy for the Dales Way and for the centre of Sedburgh, where there are 3 pubs that serve food, an Italian restaurant and a fish and chip shop. Only two of these served food on a Monday night though. We stayed in room 1 at the Daleslea and that was really spacious and warm, with a large en-suite bathroom and plenty of hot water for a bath at the end of our days walking. It also had an area with a fridge, toaster and microwave where you could heat up your own food if you wanted. The breakfasts were tasty and well cooked and Neil and Lesley were delightful, practical and unfussy hosts, who made us very welcome and were helpful and knowledgable about the local area. Hoping to be back there again soon!

Great place

We stayed here as a group of 6 ( maximum due to covid) and found it great. It is really well equipped ( particularly liked the large drinks fridge!). The outside space is also great and the views are stunning. We had dogs with us who also thoroughly enjoyed it. You can walk into town in around 10 minutes. This is no fault at all of the accommodation providers but just for info, there was a bit of a lack of takeaways etc in the town ( this could just be due to covid) but just be prepared to take your own food or make sure to book a restaraunt in town so you are prepared.

Lovely

We stayed on a night the restaurant was closed and the bar was only open to 8pm. It was very quiet and the rooms are gorgeous. Huge beds, huge rooms, lovely shower and refillable local toiletries which I much prefer for the environment. Also provided Milk in a flask not n plastic pots which I also much prefer. Breakfast was lovely, really friendly service and lovely food. Would definitely go back for a longer stay and to eat in the restaurant.

I stayed here while doing the Dales Way. It was a great place for the night - close to the Main Street, comfortable bed and lounge. Spotlessly clean. One suggestion - as there is a washing machine, some detergent would be helpful.

This is a wonderful B&B. We had the full use of the sitting room and kitchen, which is a super space to relax in, rather than being cramped in your bedroom. Dorothy and Ernest were exceptional hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and very warm and comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, the best Ive had in a very long time. The surrounding area is beautiful and it is the perfect location to explore and walk. I would highly recommend Hebblethwaite hall and I'm hoping we can bring our wider family to enjoy a stay very soon!

Fellwalkers Haven

Is there a nicer place than the Dalesman to drop into after a full day on the Howgill fells? I doubt it. Excellent variety of well kept ales, lovely welcome from two friendly ladies, and a strict "no dogs" policy. Dont get me wrong, I am a dog lover, but the post lockdown proliferation of dogs in Hotel and pub restaurants is horrendous. Can it be hygienic legally? Well done the Dalesman for having a policy and sticking to it. A rarity it seems unfortunately.

Summerhill B&B

Summerhill is a high quality Bed & Breakfast with excellent organic and homemade food. We have three lovely bedrooms to chose from. The Blue room is an en-suite double, the Gold room can be a twin or large double, with a private bathroom. The third, smaller double room, shares the bathroom, and is ideally used with the Gold room. Situated only two minute's walk from Sedbergh School and the town centre, it's the perfect location for parents visiting the school. For anyone wanting to walk in the Howgill's, access to the fells is just behind the house. We have a lovely garden where you can have tea and scones in the summer. Dogs are welcome - we have one of our own. We have several golf courses nearby - Sedbergh 5 minute drive, Kirkby Lonsdale and Kendal, both 20 minutes drive and Appleby 30 minutes.

Ali and Steve are wonderful hosts who went above and beyond for us. We were welcomed with beautiful homemade cake and tea on arrival which was very welcome after our long journey. The rooms are very nice with the most comfortable beds and wonderful views. The food was exceptional, all either locally sourced or homemade. Ali and Steve are very welcoming and as another reviewer has mentioned, it really does feel more like visiting friends. I wish we could have stayed longer as we truly felt looked after. Kindest wishes from Vicky, Mark, Jake and Amy.

Dating from 1535, the small manor house of Thorns Hall retains its historic charm with wood-panelled public rooms, fireplaces and a cobbled courtyard outside. With an enviable location on the edge of Sedbergh, and surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside, it's not surprising that many of our guests return year after year.

The HF leaders, Michael, Caroline and Margaret, were all lovely, patient and helpful. Even the weather was perfect! Highly recommended!
