Kommen Sie an! Seien Sie unser Gast! Fühlen Sie sich wohl! Harzlichst, Ihr Carsten Albers Hoteldirektor & Gastgeber
Nice for honeymooners, cosy but not warm. Kitchen nice and clean. Service sadly very poor. Rooms are nice but all pillow without pillow cases. Anyway I was told this place quit new. As the rest I would say average for low budget family is not recommended due to very pricey.

I did enjoy the staying at Ferienanlage in Schierke. The host and personnel was nice despite some of them don't speak English, which is my only complain. Other ways excellent clean rooms and breakfast.

It's a really nice place, but not without its pitfalls. I have stayed here twice in 2019, once in June and again in September. You simply cannot beat the location, the hills, the trees and just how quiet it is assuming the other guests behave accordingly. The front desk staff were always friendly and whilst there was bit of language barrier we got by well enough. Ample parking but it gets busy on a Friday and Saturday night due to the restaurant so this can swamp the spaces outside. Why do they not prioritise paying guests? Pet friendly which was great as we could bring our dog and with the rural location meant for great walking distances. The distant sound of the local steam locomotive added to the atmosphere of this central Deutschland location, which when overlooking the view we had from our room was quite frankly, magical. There are some oddities about the place, each apartment has a cooker but no grill and no oven, this I must admit got my back up, as it was clearly a money saving technique as well as forced persuasion to use their own restaurant, which quite frankly is a rip off at €20 each just for breakfast, which includes then getting the beds made up, which I felt was a cheeky idea, especially when you're already paying enough to simply be there. On the note of cheekiness I had a bad experience in the restaurant on my first hour of being there in June. My partner informed the staff I was Vegan, which they said wasn't a problem but when we went down for lunch it was quite a different story. The waitress seemed to notion that this was a big inconvenience, come on now, you have guests from all walks of German life here, they ALL have to be catered for, so I ordered a Jacket Potato with mushrooms and a side salad, which I categorically stated to have no cream based dressing, otherwise I fall very ill. When it came out all seemed well until I noticed the chef had hidden a yoghurt based dressing underneath the salad, when all other guests had theirs on top. This was in my opinion a deliberate micky take and sabotage, I had thankfully only had one mouthful but almost immediately my stomach started to churn. They took it back and returned with just a simple side salad, the potato and mushrooms were gone. At this stage I realised they were simply mucking me about and I was not remotely impressed, how dare you! You can actually kill people with stupidity of this behaviour! So, that was the last time I ever used the restaurant and besides, Wernigerode have enough places offering Vegan options, or else we resigned to eating in our room. But needless to say I've never forgotten that incident. Overall it is a well run place, friendly staff but with no oven or grill in the room plus an arrogant clown of a chef running the restaurant with guests who are in a restrictive diet there is most certainly room for improvement here, including the need for better WiFi.

We were pleasantly surprised by Schierke Waldperle. It was a little hard to find on tiny, narrow roads, and we were already late, just in time to check in by 4pm, but the car park was easy to park in and the lady who checked us in was easily found, although not in the reception. She welcomed us with a stream of German, with all the details we needed to know, and then left us to ourselves. The important thing to understand was how to open the main door with a key code - but there was no danger of forgetting that as the code was available on little slips on the key, in the room etc, and we took a picture on our phone. The room was a large comfort double - and it was indeed large and comfortable, with dressing gowns and a large and very comfortable bed, open windows with a lovely view, and very cosy. No aircon, but the open windows were fine. The coffee facilities were downstairs in the restaurant, where you could also purchase sodas. There was mineral water for us in the room though. The bathroom had a good shower but only a few toiletries, everything seemed very clean and welcoming. Average space for unpacking, plenty of room for relaxing/stowing suitcases. Two large armchairs and a very large coffee table. We didn't try the wellness room/spa although we were tempted. The breakfast was served quite late, from 8-11, which meant that we could plan a hike before breakfast, but we succumbed to that comfortable bed and the total quiet, and overslept, so had breakfast at 8:30 and missed the hike. But it would have been a good plan, because breakfast included lots of brunch-like stuff, caprese salad, meatballs on sticks, scrambled eggs with herbs, bacon, sausages, cheese, as well as bread, cakes, cereals including muesli, milk and yogurt, unlimited coffee, juice and plenty of fresh fruit. And local cherry yogurt. I can't wait to come back here and do some hiking and would definitely plan to stay again. I would recommend it if you speak reasonable German.

We found ourselves at Gasthof Stadel when visiting the Christmas Market at Wernigerode, where the hotels were overflowing. The Tourist Office found us lodging in the nearby village of Schierke. This turned out to be a special treat. Gasthof Stadel is a small and immaculately kept traditional inn located near the Harz National Park. It would be a great base for exploring the hiking and summer and winter sports options in the vicinity. We were somewhat late getting to the hotel following an excursion on the Brockenbahn, part of the narrow gauge steam railroad that threads through the Harz. The proprietors, who spoke excellent English, were warm and welcoming. Our room was large and cozy, and overlooked the local road leading up to the Brocken. The ambiance in the restaurant area was traditional and "gemutlich". A glass of Schierker Feuerstein, as recommended by our host, was a perfect end to a day of exploring the area.
