I went to La Viña with my husband for our wedding night, and after speaking to the owner several times about the possibility of my mother collecting the room keys or us going the day before, we agreed to arrive at 1am and the receptionist would wait for us. Because apparently the room is very complicated to find. On arrival I thanked the lady for waiting for us, and she explained our room was up one flight of stairs and on the right. I tried expressed my surprise at how easy this was.. Due to all the conversations with the owner. The receptionist was super rude, she didn't let me finish a single sentence and kept saying she didn't understand me. I don't speak perfect Spanish, but eventually I lost my patience and told her of course she didn't understand me because she wouldn't let me finish a sentence.! After 5 or 6 attempts my husband told me it was best to go to the room and discuss tomorrow. I started going up the stairs, and the receptionist continued saying never in all her years working there was a bride like this on her wedding night! In all my years staying in various hotels, I've never experienced such rude treatment from a anyone, let alone a receptionist who is paid to assist people, let alone on my wedding night! I actually went downstairs again and apologised for any miscommunication and tried again to say what I wanted to say. She wouldn't let me speak. Instead of enjoying the nice room with my husband, I went upstairs and cried. She made me feel as small as an ant, as if my opinion didn't matter at all. Hotel was great, apart from hairs in the jacuzzi. Worst customer service ever.

La Casona is, apparently, the only hotel in San Rafael. We stayed at the hotel for two nights, before and after the wedding of our friends who live nearby. If I had the option to rate the hotel as "good", somewhere inbetween "very good" and "average", this is what I would go for. Located in a rather bland buiding from the Franco era, the nicest thing about the hotel was probably the expansive green area surrounding it. It contained a small bar, a children play ground, a small swimming pool and plenty of green where kids could romp about. The hotel itself was rather average. The rooms were ok, but a bit worn, and our double room was on the smaller side. The breakfast in the huge restaurant area was not too bad, but it was not the kind of breakfast that puts a smile of your face in the morning. All in all, if you need to stay in San Rafael, there is no reason not to stay in La Casona as long as you don't demand too much, just don't expect to be overwhelmed.

Finding an ideal budget friendly small hotel in San Rafael does not have to be difficult. Welcome to Ctr. Las Farolas, a nice option for travelers like you. Rooms at Ctr. Las Farolas provide a flat screen TV and a seating area. You can also enjoy an on-site restaurant while staying at Ctr. Las Farolas. During your visit, be sure to check out a popular San Rafael tapas restaurant such as La Serrata, which is a short distance from Ctr. Las Farolas. Ctr. Las Farolas puts the best of San Rafael at your fingertips, making your stay both relaxing and enjoyable.
Las Farolas is an inn. The room was tight for two but comprehended a toilet/bathroom. It has an excellent bar with great tapas. It also has a spacious dining area. Everything at Las Farolas is very very clean and the owners are always around, very friendly and keen, when asked, to give lots of helpful advice and to top up the tapas. We enjoy (normally) using public transport, but San Rafael is very poorly served by its almost invisible train service and a bus service which is not dependable, compensated a bit however by Carlotta the very friendly and helpful lady who runs the bus station bar and speaks perfect Californian English. San Rafael is good in position, midway between Madrid, Segovia and Avila, bu, sadly, a car is essential.
