Location convenient

Location is certainly biggest selling point. Rooms are not very big considering the prices they call. Breakfast is OK but nothing special. Overall everybody tries very hard to be very polite and nice but this does compensate the just average hotel infrastructure.

Nice, comfortable hotel with fantastic service. I stayed here a few days as part of a group during a business trip. Usually with somewhat-extended stays, menu fatigue is a problem at breakfast... but not here. The breakfast buffet's variety is well above average and offers delicious staples from both Western and Japanese cuisines at a very competitive price. The rooms are a bit outdated, but extremely well cared-for. Even though the penthouse piano bar and the banquet halls in the lower floors are usually pretty busy, the rooms and hallways are perfectly peaceful all of the time. The front desk was very helpful and accommodating to my group's sudden changes of plans. Some of the staff struggle a bit with English, but everyone's always friendly and willing to help. I had a view of Mt. Fuji from my room, which was a nice little bonus. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to people traveling for business to the Urawa-Saitama area.

Tiny rooms in desperate need of an update

Reviewed By ForeignObserver2

Given that the price of this hotel was about 50% more than what hotels in Tokyo or Sapporo charged I was totally disappointed in this place. The best thing about it is that it is in walking distance to the Urawa Train Station. However, the hotel and the room was in a desperate need of an update. We had a twin room that looked straight out of the 60‘s or early 70‘s with built in wooden furniture. The bathroom was the tiniest one we have had in Japan and, again, it looked dated. They have an antiquated heating and cooling system. So, if they decide to switch the hotel to heat or cold that is all you can get in your room, no matter what the actual outside temperature is. All you can do is control the fan speed. We were there on a warm, early December day and the tiny room was very stuffy. Luckily we could open a window which made the situation a bit more tolerable. Bedding was very average and the same was true for sleeping comfort. The towels were very thin and looked old. They did offer a free (mostly Japanese) breakfast, which was suprisingly good. Undortunately there was no English description in the food items so one had to try them out to find out was actuall served. Staff was friendly and fairly efficient. Overall, I would recommend another place until Urawa Hotel is renovated.

Great Japanese Travelodge!

Reviewed By wisteriagirl

I stayed here twice last month. You can't ask more for this price, service and comfy room. Yes, the room is small smaller than Travelodge (you know if you are British), but this is meant to be "business hotel" for salary men. I had massive suit case, and bags but it was fine. Normally business men only need lodging, no chill out. I get TV, free Wifi, kettle (you need to bring your own tea bag and milk if you want English tea!) and massive bed! It's semi-double, which is bigger than normal English double bed. Pillow was too stiff for me, but you can choose your pillow at the entrance hall to bring it up. Even get air purifier in room! Water here is ionized water. Feels good. Breakfast was early, it finish by 9am, but good buffet style, and table are counter only and no table for family. So if you have friend, you have to sit side by side. Good, if you are alone. Mainly Japanese, but there is a good fruit selection, and cereal (special K only) was there, and expect Japanese pastry type bread if you fancy a bread. I didn't know so I only had water, after I read few review here, you can get the hot drink free from vending machine during the breakfast. Shame I missed that! I didn't use the communal bath, but bathroom in your room has very powerful shower. Just be carefull, when you drain the water from bathtub, it will overflood the floor out, so don't leave your pedestal towel on floor! This is normal in Japanese so-called "unit-bath". Ladies at recepotion were very courteous and helpful, kept my bags for me until checking in. This hotel is about 10mins walk from Omiya station western exit. You will pass Sogo department store which opens until 9pm and you can walk through inside to the other side of it if raining, and its restaurant floor opening until late. I will be back! You can't get any better place for value for money, in Omiya.

Location is ideal but the hotel is old

Reviewed By dartagnanaguilar

I did an overnight stay at the Rafre in Saitama because I was scheduled to watch a U2 concert. The hotel itself is not hard to find. Once you exit the train station, you just venture to your left and the turn left again and walk straight until you find the hotel with a sign outside. I arrived a couple of hours before check in time but the staff graciously checked me in. I also left word to the hotel that my concert ticket be dropped off there, which they remembered to give me as soon as I checked in. Plus points for that. The room itself is quite old, but quite spacious for a Japanese hotel. Though it's very clean, one can notice that the furniture is already dated. There is a 711 in the same building as the hotel and not a lot of people use the hotel's restaurants to eat, which is a shame.

Unusual and eye opening

Reviewed By Kam K

When i first booked, I expected small bed rooms and a funny bath system. My family were genuinely surprised by the communal style system - pyjamas, common rooms for eating, napping, massage chair, computer and comic reading etc. Extra charges are required for reflexology, facial, body massage etc. In a society where the apartments are very expensive and small, I can understand why the place is very popular with young japanese. Staff doesn't speak English at all, which made the overall experience more fun - there are formal rules on bath times, buffet and informal etiquette on noise, clearing tables after playing board games / drinking etc. Even my kids enjoyed the experience as they played board games and explored the new homely environment.

Very Good Clean Hotel

This is a new clean hotel but the location is not very convenient. We had to use taxi to move to even Ohmiya, popular town nearby. It was also very hard to find this hotel among high-rise buildings in ShinToshin town.
