Super small hotel in Asturias. Perfect for getting away from big cities. Lively square on Rey Silo Plaza. Ask to try the gourmet recommended locally produced Rey Silo cheese. Take a side trip to Cudillero beach a half hot drive to north.

In September 2014, our fourth year in a row visiting wonderful NW Spain, we spent a week at La Casa de la Abuela. We came across it when searching for a rural base from which we could explore Asturias. This beautiful and tranquil B&B filled the bill admirably. The house is set deep in the country, about 6Km from the small town of Pravia, and overlooking a beautiful wooded valley. The interior is modern and tasteful, and thanks to the large windows is light and airy. The breakfast room is provided with a fridge and microwave oven for the use of guests. The breakfasts themselves were simple (not a criticism) and comprised of items such as fresh coffee, cereals, croissant, bread, fresh fruit, and homemade jams. Our hosts, sisters Monica and Paloma, originally from Leon, were uniformly welcoming, charming and helpful. Evening meals are not provided at La Casa, so we eventually became ‘regulars’ at Las Brisas Pravianas. It’s a family run sidreria and restaurant, just about 3Km down the valley in the direction of Pravia, and is the sort of place Spain does so well – honest, unpretentious, tasty food that represents good value for money. There are other eating options in Pravia itself but Las Brisas met all of our needs. So where can you visit from La Casa? The list is pretty much endless but we much enjoyed Somiedo National Park, the Playa del Silencio and the coast around Cadavedo, Llanes, Cudillero, and in Oviedo, the churches of St Mary and St Michael de Lilo and Santa Maria del Naranco, and the Cathedral of San Salvador. To summarise, we can certainly recommend La Casa de la Abuela (and beautiful Asturias) without reservation.
