Boasting a historical dockyard housing Henry VIII’s Mary Rose and Lord Nelson’s HMS Victory, Portsmouth has maritime heritage written all over it. Museums aside, the city still lives and breathes the sea—best exemplified in its nautical spirit, cobbled historic district, and sail-shaped Spinnaker Tower viewpoint.

A warm welcome awaits at Portsmouth’s last family run seafront hotel which has been brought into the 21 st century with a sympathetic refurbishment including a passenger lift, en- suite rooms and suites, a cosy Bar, 24 hour Reception, a varied breakfast and on road and private parking. With stunning maritime views from the bedrooms on the third floor, the first & second floor rooms overlook the beautiful ornamental gardens with sea glimpses through the trees. Just along the road is South Parade Pier with its wonderful restaurant, small fun fair and entertainment bars. Close by is the D Day Museum, Aquarium and Southsea Castle where Henry the 8 th stood watching as the Mary Rose sank into the Solent. Also within walking distance is the Pyramids Centre, Canoe Lake, the Rose Gardens, Isle of Wight Hovercraft and Palmerston Road which boasts over 40 restaurants from almost as many different countries. Moments away, is a seafood restaurant, a gastropub, a fine dining establishment and the usual seaside cafes etc. Gunwharf Quays/historic dockyard is a ten minute bus ride away or a 40 minute walk along the promenade and through historic Old Portsmouth.
Get a parking permit from the hotel before paying! For the price and location, this was exceptional. Even the breakfast was top notch. I wish I had read the comments about parking as you can get a day pass from the hotel for £2 (Vs £12 for 24 hr via Ringo). However that didn’t spoil things, the room was lovely, we didn’t have a sea view but didn’t expect it given the price and we only really needed some there to rest our heads. The bed/mattress/duvet were on par with 5-star hotels I’ve stayed in. Will definitely come here again! For the best deals they do recommend contacting the hotel directly.

Absolutely no complaints at all and in fact exactly the opposite. This was without doubt one of the best, most airy and comfortable Premier Inns we have stayed in and we have stayed in quite a few. It was our first experience of eating and drinking in a Bar & Block restaurant and would recommend it.

We needed a place for the night before catching the ferry the next day. Booked on line direct with the hotel and did not have to pay until we arrived. On arrival the staff found me a parking space (free), which I noticed was monitored 24hrs a day by CCTV to alive feed in the reception. So additional peace of mind. Later learned that you can book a parking place in advance if you know you are arriving later. Our room was towards the back of the hotel so no road noise, though we were treated to the local nursery school activity in the morning. It was a clean room, more than adequate in size. The bed was comfortable and we both slept well. The sockets have USB charger points, which is very useful. Our bathroom (photos not good sorry folks) only has a shower but it allows the generous sized person access so was not a problem. Being military (Navy) in background and service no surprise that the ambiance of the building is towards that setting. There is both a dining room and bar area where you can eat. The menus are wide ranging and the food we had was very good. Breakfast is a buffet style and had everything from cereal to full English (including black pudding and fried bread). The swimming pool is a little on the small size but as I was the only person using it that was not too much of an issue. Jacuzzi was warm and effective, again on the small size. Not sure about the infra red sauna, so decided not to risk that. The fire notice in the bedroom is printed in English, French and German - a good touch. The staff on reception were very helpful with local information. Overall although the general condition of the building would benefit from a lick of paint the hotel and the staff were excellent. It is ideally placed for Portsmouth Naval visits, the shopping centre and the ferry. We will definitely book again when we are in the area. If I could give four and a half I would, definitely a nine out of ten, loosing 1 point for tiredness of the building.

The original Queen's hotel was known as Southsea House and was built by the architect Augustus Livesay, in 1861. It was then a large private house owned by Sir John and Lady Morris and was later transformed into one of the first hotels in Southsea by William Kemp Junior, this is when it became known as the Queen's Hotel. In the late 18th century the Queen's Hotel had a yacht club that stood behind it called the Royal Albert and was also surrounded by woods, which were then called Stone Woods. On December 8th 1891 in the early hours of the Sunday morning a disastrous and fatal fire occurred. Aided by strong winds it raged until the whole of the premises had been completely gutted. The Hotel was rebuilt in 1903 by the architect T.W.Cutler into the splendid building that stands today, complete with its Edwardian baroque style in brown terracotta.
We have been visiting The Queens Hotel for the last 14 years. During this time we have seen many changes, including work carried out to the Hotel, numerous staff changes and at least three changes in management. On our arrival last Wednesday we were greeted by reception staff wearing huge smiles who were both charming and welcoming. Check in was swift and stress free even though there was an issue with our room, the reception staff summoned the current manager who introduced herself as Karen. Our issue was resolved without fuss and both my husband and I commented, not only on how professional, courteous and efficient Karen was but also genuinely charming and extremely pleasant. During our three days we met many new staff and without exception every single member was courteous, helpful but mostly very pleasant, nothing was too much trouble and every request met with a smile, from Emma on reception, Ben room service and all the bar and dining room staff. Thank you to a great team all of whom are clearly working well together. We have, as always already booked for next June 2023 See you then and possibly sooner. Tracy Andrew and Maddy ?

Part of a Paultons Park break bundle, there were rats running around the courtyard and the doors were left ajar to the restaurant area so they could've got in. The breakfast was ok, bacon was microwaved and chewy, the egg was like a puddle of vomit, sausages and beans were delicious. Pancake machine was broken. We were a family of four, we were given three of everything in the room but staff were very accommodating when we requested more. the sofa bed our kids had was lopsided....meaning their heads were tilted down as they slept. The room was clean to an extent, under the bed there was a dirty tissue and down the sides of the sofa bed was filthy. The double bed was very comfortable and was quite large. The bathroom was very luxurious looking but the shower only dribbled. An ok stay but would not recommend mainly due to cleanliness upon inspection, place seems clean enough to the naked eye.
