I was a little disappointed when we checked in as I was expecting more resort-like accommodation. Our room was a basic bedroom with tiny kitchenette and regular bathroom, with a spa in the balcony (which we didn’t use). There was nowhere to sit other than the bed and balcony chairs. We opted not to pay extra for daily housekeeping which was a mistake on our part, as there was soon a build up of sand from Four Mile Beach which inevitably found its way into the bed. I tried to clean it off our balcony with the dustpan and brush I found in the room. I like to avoid housework when I’m on holiday but found myself cleaning, emptying the rubbish, making the bed etc. although to be fair, there was an extreme staff shortage at the time of our visit. The bed was uncomfortable and I didn’t sleep very well. There was only a single sheet provided, which wasn’t enough. I’d have liked easier access to clean towels too, or some dropped off to our room. I couldn’t fault the location though…a short stroll to the beach and shops which was great..we could pop out to the Night Owl convenience store, or grab an ice-cream. We went to Little Larder for breakfast, just a few minutes walk away. We didn’t use the pools, preferring the beach.

Tricky to write. We had super expectations and were very excited. Our first experience on arriving was to be spoken to like we were not worthy of the attention of the lady at the check in area. She had a horrible tone and then gave us a map and that was it. No have a nice stay, no if you would like breakfast we can arrange discounts if you pay upfront! Note the breakfast - cereal, fruit and pre cooked eggs was $48/person….not that you know this until you sign at the end. Sorry going off track. There was a feeling that we were a flat out inconvenience and the ‘conferences’ & ‘tour buses’ were a priority. As a newly married couple we were given a room with two double beds - my husband is over six foot four. Not exactly the romantic week away! Two hours after check in the fridge floods the room (no one’s fault) however we had to dry clothes but we couldn’t cos the drying rack in the bathroom was broken, as was the blind in there too. We had food in the fridge and when they replaced it they took the food and didn’t put it back. The lady we checked out with was divine as were the cleaning staff and those that serviced the outside area. The pools, the gardens, the wait staff and cleaning staff were also lovely. The golf course was spectacular.

Thala Beach Nature Reserve is the absolute benchmark for a special getaway to remember. Thala sits on a quiet peninsula overlooking the Coral Sea atop the stunning Oak Beach. It is full of beautiful native flora and fauna and is quite simply an environmental paradise. We relaxed from the minute we arrived and were greeted by very friendly staff, then settled into our lovely cabin with its views of that stunning sea. Heaven. Thala's irresistible billabong pool with its beautiful surrounds and unique and clever layout made us feel like we always had our privacy, even while others were swimming there. The owners of this lovely place really did their homework. Ospreys Restaurant, beautiful food for breakfast and dinner and wow, what stunning views! We never wanted to leave before the sunset.. Also, highly recommend an afternoon visit to the bar (it too with lovely views). You will love the "Thala Collins" cocktail! We were sad to leave this special place and its fabulous staff who went out of their way to make our week so enjoyable and special, it's beautiful Oak Beach and its resident Goannas, birds, Papuan frogmouth and its glorious butterflies. Complete relaxation, complete enjoyment, a holiday we will never forget. Thank you Thala Beach Nature Reserve. My husband and I can't wait to return.

5⭐️ Staff are amazing here and happy to cater to your needs! I’d like to shout out Hannah on reception and Cameron and Abner in the pool bar! The music for the pool was brilliant and the service fast and efficient!! Abner created a great cocktail for me when I was being a bit fussy but hit the nail on the head with it!! Overall staff here are amazing!! 5⭐️ Pool area, pool is spacious and a lot of areas to sit and relax you never feel like you’re overcrowded! Bar is easy to access from pool and poolside with a good range or food and drinks for pool service 3⭐️ Room, our room was spacious and had everything we needed great amenities if you want to stay in and cook, our room had a washing machine and dryer which was great to quickly dry the towel after a swim. Overall the room is very outdated and could use major upgrades, the beds aren’t great could do with either a proper king size bed instead of two singles pushed together and the sofa bed in the main room was broken and difficult to sit on. 1⭐️ Restaurant, we only got to use the restaurant once for breakfast which for the price wasn’t special, you had a choice of bacon, eggs, beans, sausages, mushrooms and drinks plus breads. Other that that the main oven broke which meant we could not have dinner in the resort as all they were serving was pizza which was 2/3 nights we were there. 1⭐️ Room service, there’s no cleaning service for any length of stay unless you pay more and request it, there’s no room service unless you demand reception brings you your items such as spare towels or toiletries, for a resort this is not good enough. Overall staff are great the pool is brilliant the other services need a lot of work to justify the price and make this a better experience and go from a regular hotel to a resort as it claims. Definitely don’t feel that I got my value for money the service, and lack of amenities and issues that were specific to the time we were there lead you an underwhelming experience. The staff and pool really are what gives this place the 3⭐️ -Ash and Kiaya

Family friendly, great location walking distance to Four Mile beach and town. Avoid the continental breakfast, not good value for money. Pool only suitable for kids. Room not serviced. Not suitable for couples.

Location, facilities and staff brilliant. Unfortunately Wi-Fi was very poor. Could never connect. This should be a given. Lifts were out of order but understand maintenance issues occur but caused extreme inconvenience with bags, groceries etc, etc, and general resort access.
