Stayed here for the second time this year. What a fabulous place, such a beautiful and historic hotel. The staff are fabulous, especially like to mention Daniel on breakfast service and Daniel on last night’s evening service. And also all the lovely staff in the Gaia spa, which is divine, and the treatments leave you feeling a million dollars! The rooms are gorgeous, bed was so comfortable, and lovely and quiet. We will definitely be back, this is a very special place ❤️

St Elizabeth's House in South Devon is a celebration of luxury, style and service. This Devon hotel combines contemporary, state-of-the-art features whilst retaining the Georgian manor's traditional charm. Situated in the historic village of Plympton St Maurice and surrounded by 9 acres of sweeping lawns and beautifully landscaped gardens, St Elizabeth's House offers an idyllic retreat from the stresses of busy lives.
The lunches have been good up until my last visit on Tuesday 24th May 22. There was just two vegetarian options on the menu and one of those was unavailable, so left with no choice at all. After complaining about the lack of choice the waiter said they could do a pea risotto, which might agreed to. It was awful. Bland with no flavour. I could have done much better myself. The lunch menu offers a wide choice for meat and fish eaters, but vegetarians get very little choice and as the bill payer I find this very annoying. I guess I will have to look for another regular restaurant where I can get more vegetarian choice. It’s saddens me to write this as I had hoped we had found a good restaurant we could use regularly.

Seven of us went to Welbeck Manor to have afternoon tea. Even though Mark, the chef, was working on his own due to staff shortages he still produced the best afternoon tea I’ve ever had. Such a variety of sandwiches, pastries, cakes and scones.. with lashings of clotted cream! Highly recommended.

The Smithaleigh is located in the picturesque South Hams area of Devon, just a few miles away from Plymouth. Its secluded location is only a few hundred meters from the main Exeter to Plymouth A38, but is just far enough away from the main road to offer a relaxing and peaceful environment.
We were really disappointed with this accommodation which in reality is nothing like the photos or information on the internet. We had booked an apartment for 2 weeks and left after 1 week as soon as we found somewhere else to stay. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment for 4 of us (2 adults and 2 teenagers) and agreed with the owner that it was dog friendly and he was happy for us to bring our well behaved Cockerpoo. On arrival we were greeted by the comment, 'I didn't realise you were bringing a dog...' We reminded him of the conversation in which he had joked about it not being a Great Dane who would slobber on the furniture, and we asked where would be suitable to walk the dog. The answer was down the grass verge at the side of the main road (A38) directly outside. There was no access to any gardens or fields as advertised, and no footpaths within walking distance. A major problem for any dog owner. On arrival we realised that it was more like a motel surrounded on 3 sides by an ugly tarmac carpark, which was used every day by lorries and workmen's vans, who parked directly outside our ground floor apartment windows. Noisy, smelly and ugly to look at - had to keep the curtains closed as they were looking straight in to the apartment. No idea where the pictures of a restaurant or bar came from - certainly no facilities of any sort on site, not even a communal washing machine and there was no freezer or freezer box in the fridge. The inside of the apartment bore no resemblance to the pictures. Despite Covid and the need for extra vigilant cleaning, the window sills and blinds were dusty with dark coloured old dust that had clearly been there for some time and would be harbouring any bacteria or viruses around. The extractor fan in the bathroom was broken and there was mould growing on the bathroom ceiling and grouting - the only option was to open the window to get fresh air (and wave to the workmen whilst on the toilet or in the shower). The Shower support was rusty and the bath was cracked. The seal on the shower screen was old and inefficient and therefore the bathroom floor flooded every time the shower was used. The plug holes were disgusting and had not been cleaned out for some time. The bedrooms were no better - pillows and mattresses were stained. Dusty fake flowers in the windows and stained cushions on the beds. We were short of towels on arrival and it was with great reluctance that we were able to secure towels for 4 people. The sitting area had seating for 3 - we had booked for 4 people - and asked if we could have a 4th chair of some sort. We were told by Simon that he had no more and we would have to use a dining room chair to sit and watch TV in the evenings. We opted to buy a camping chair instead. There was insufficient crockery and cutlery for 4 people - we bought 4 new mugs for our own use and opted to eat out as much as possible. When we informed Simon that we were leaving he did not seem interested in why that was and just told us to post the key through the permanently closed reception door. If you are desperate for a 1 night stop over en route to the ferry or something, fine, but otherwise do not stay here.
