The Vintage House Douro

In the Heart of Douro Valley's Demarcated Wine Region, considered World Heritage by UNESCO, you will find the The Vintage House - Douro, a 5 star luxury hotel overlooking the Douro river. In fact, when you get there you won't believe how close to the water it actually is. Once in your room, your first instinct will be to walk to the balcony to take in the unique landscape before you, already thinking how wonderful it will be to have lunch in the restaurant esplanade, making the best of the view. At night, after a meal in the award-winning "Rabelo" Restaurant, chat the night away with your friends in the "Library Bar", sipping a nice Port Wine.

Way nicer than the pictures

We decided to stay in Pinhao after our Douro tour which was a fabulous idea. Pinhao is a lovely tranquil town and the Vintage House the perfect choice especially if arriving by train or dropped off. The hotel itself is way nicer than the pictures on their website. The location is right by the boat docks, train station, restaurants etc. Dinner was on their lovely terrace as well as their bar. Overall lovely experience.

Hotel Quinta do Silval

The Rural Hotel Quinta do Silval, located on the left margin of Pinhão River, near to Vale de Mendiz, is the first Vinic Hotel of the Demarcated Region of Douro and is the pride of its owner the Sociedade da Casa Agricola da Quinta do Silval. The hotel is magnificently built over the mythic Pinhão River, in a property with patrimonial and landscape value where every year the best grapes of Douro originate the best Port and Douro wines. The Hotel bathed by the sun all day long and immersed in tradition, allows the visitor to enjoy the beauty of the entire region considered World Heritage by Unesco and to know the history of the first Demarcated Region of the World, founded by the first minister Marquês de Pombal, 250 years ago. The Hotel Rural Quinta do Silval opened recently and it allies the charisma, comfort and new technologies with a typical Douro arquitecture, offering a dining room where one can experience the traditional gastronomy of this region and a Tasting room to taste the best wines. It has 14 well decorated rooms, with a panoramic view over the old vineyards that resemble a divine hand painted image more than one built by man effort. All rooms are equipped with satellite TV, air conditioner, internet, minibar, a safe and a working desk.

No view from triple room and no food

This place is somewhat inbetween a rural hotel and a quinta, lacking a bit in charm. There may be nice views from upstairs rooms but the triple room at the ground floor (door to reception area!) is dark and with no view whatsoever. Upon arrival we were informed that the stove was not working so there would be no dinner available for the rest of the week! Hmm, came from a long and difficult drive and would need to find dinner elsewhere. A text message would have been appropriate.

Beautiful

Reviewed By annettefL4746XD

We have recently returned from a holiday in Portugal. We stayed in Porto and then caught the train to Ferrao where we stayed at the Quinta Nova winery house. It was absolutely beautiful, quiet, tranquil with breathtaking views. The rooms were very clean but fairly basic for the price but totally in keeping with the surroundings. The staff were lovely and took us to the train station several times for trips out. We found the food a bit expensive but it was very nice. I swam in the unheated pool twice, but the air temperature was 32degrees C, so that was fine. After the busy time we had in Porto( staying out drinking till the early hours!) , Quinta Nova was like a retreat, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there
