Perfect Weekend

Reviewed By LizziGreen

Friendly, welcoming staff. Comfortable beds. Large clean dorm rooms which were all close to bathrooms. Nice hot shower (sometimes took a while for the hot water to kick in). Incredible views from the room. The self-catering kitchen was well-equipped with multiple large fridges and a lot of space to store dry food. Stunning location, only a 20-30 minute walk from Glenridding. Close to a coupe of pubs. Perfect location to walk Helvellyn and many other walking routes. I ate one meal at the hostel, which was ok. The communal area was cosy and offered a lot of seating. Many books and board games to chose from.

Finally got to stay here .... Good for the price

Reviewed By BuccaneerDave

Having enjoyed many beers in the beer garden over the years we were finally able to stay at The Patterdale. We've stayed at at least 4 other properties in Patterdale but alas all were full this time. It took me a while to figure out how to book as they had a 4 day minimum stay including half board. A bit unfamiliar to us Canadians. The price was such a deal that we booked for the 4 nights knowing that we would only be staying 3 as we needed to return to London. Overall the property is fine. Needs a make over including replacing some of the beds (at least the rooms we were in), replacing the mouldy caulking and touching up the paint, wall paper and some of the furniture. It's not bad but just a bit too much 'character'. For our group, and no disrespect intended, it felt a little like an assisted living facility with the added bonus of getting to decide who you had dinner with. Very organized meal times, decent menu with limited choices, quick service to turn the table over and just a hint of an institutional feel. We spoke with many who said they thoroughly enjoyed it and the food was good (but their Keswick property is better). This was an unfamiliar style of staying in a hotel and albeit it was a bit odd to us it was a good experience and the room and food was great for the price we paid. I absolutely loved that there were no dogs. Yes I get that most people love dogs. I don't. Part of the minority that thinks dogs are an invasive species. And I don't always enjoy sitting in a restaurant with them or having them near me while I'm enjoying a pint. And I am allergic to most dog dander so a night off of feeling like crap while I'm eating, drinking or sleeping is a bonus. For that reason alone I think I would consider staying here again. And the beer garden is still awesome. Overall we enjoyed this unique, to us, experience. Thank you.

Very cosy, beautiful location

Reviewed By Alex W

So me and my partner stayed here the first weekend of April 2022. First of all the location is beautiful. This is situation very close to patterdale and the kirkstone pass and has a wide array of mountains surrounding (if mountain climbing is your thing!). There is the smallest lake in the lakes very close by (the brotherswater lake). We stayed in the Inn itself which is in small cozy building beside the road. It is situated within the Sykes holiday park which is also has camping and caravanning facilities alongside bunkhouses and a cottage - all seemed a good layout with good accommodation choices! The inn room - The cleanliness of the rooms was really good, the beds were very comfy. The bathrooms were very small with literally very little room to move around. I wouldn't say this is a problem as such but if you prefer lots of room in a bathroom then you have little space to manoeuvre. My only criticism of the hotel rooms within the inn is that the soundproof between other rooms is not the best. I could hear other guests snoring through the walls and hear when other guests had their TV's on - not good if your are a light sleeper. Staff - Very friendly. Upon check-in the staff in the shop helped us pay the balance as we arrived very early and we had some problems with paying the balance for the first night as my bank decided to reject paying which put our weekend stay under threat. The guys in the shop here were on hand to sort this out and reassure us which was brilliant. Upon check-in itself, the staff in the inn were amazing and so friendly, they offered to carry our bags from our car to the room and ensured we had everything we needed to kick start our weekend. We had a problem with our heating and after reporting they were straight on it to fix the problem! Very good also in the bar/resturaunt of the inn and were on it! - very good staff. Food & Drink - Wow some beautiful food. For the 2 nights we were there me and my partner did the 3 courses, I had some smoke trout and nachos which were amazing. Mains - I recommend the fish and chips and the Cumberland sausage and mash is a must. Both nights had a chocolate cheesecake which was lovely. All the food was pub food cooked to the finest of standards. If you are staying at the inn then bed and breakfast is included with a beautifully cooked to order full English. Drink wise - if real ale is your thing then your in luck, some love local ales. Overall I would say this place was spot on and I will be returning again!
