Dubbed "Little England" due to its cool climate and colonial-era bungalows, Nuriwaya Eliya boasts a landscape far more dramatic than Britain's. Mist-shrouded mountains and terraced tea plantations surround the former hill station, while world-class brews are abundant.

In the cool highlands of Sri Lanka, on top of the highest vantage point is a place that takes you back in time. Here, surrounded by lush tea estates, beautifully kept gardens, and colourful flower beds is a place where the mountains set the storybook backdrop for a resplendent retreat to unwind.
An old tea plantation owner's villa high in the hills on the outskirts of Nuwara Eliyaal it’s the highest hotel we stayed in and retains its colonial heritage in both the design, furnishings and level of service, it helped that we were the only guests staying the night we were there. The drive to it passes through their own tea plantation and passes the, now derelict, tea processing plant, processing is now done in another plant elsewhere. The room we had was very spacious and the bathroom huge and both were very well appointed. Thankfully the room had heating, something I never thought I would say in Sri Lanka, but up in the hill country it was positively cold and we both regretted not having packed jumpers. The food, in general, is very good but lacked any Sri Lanka dishes, perhaps because we were the only guests. However, the ‘High Tea’ billed as having ‘delectable delights’ was a very serious letdown, poor to bordering on an absolute travesty but you could not fault the staff for their attentiveness and service. Perhaps the High Tea suffered because we were the only people staying, who knows? All in all a good night's stay, spoiled only by the atrocious weather, a monsoon storm came in and stayed for the duration, not their fault!

Luxe Wilderness offer 3 identical villas under one roof. Each villa consist of 2 stories of space with 800 sq ft per villa. Downstairs of the villa is the living area and a fully functional kitchen. Upstairs is one bedroom with 2 king size beds and bathroom with a bathtub over looking the mountains and breathtaking scenery.
We had a really lovely stay at Luxe Wilderness. The places is large and airy and very comfortable and the host is very welcoming and helpful. There were power cuts and when we needed to use power we would just call the host and let him know we needed it. They also made us THE BEST Sri Lankan breakfast. My one criticism is that it felt like we were told by the host which TukTuk/car to use. We'd met a driver on arrival at Nuwara Eliya and did a few trips with him, lets just say when he picked us up and dropped us off the reception was very unfriendly and made us feel very uncomfortable.
