Barbara and Johan, are awesome hosts with big hearts. Being on my first solo trip through the Karoo, far from home, once meeting Barbara and Johan, I instantly had a calming feeling and I found a sense of home. They are truly amazing hosts and further more amazing people. If you ever stop by Nieu-Bethesda have a stay at The Ibis. Not just for the good night sleep and company, but also for the delicious food!

A unique accommodation experience in a fairy-tale tower at a vibrant Arts Centre in the Karoo village of Nieu-Bethesda. The Bethesda Arts Centre Tower is two minutes walk from the fascinating Owl House, surrounded by stunning mountains, under an amazing array of stars. See the artists at work making huge colourful wall hangings and lino-prints, or catch a performance at the outdoor theatre while enjoying a Karoo-style meal at our great restaurant.
Very basic accommodation which was fine for the price. Having a a shared bathroom is definitely an issue in the Covid. But problem came when both mornings we where told breakfast was a 8am, but no staff had even turned up by 8:30 on Saturday so we had to pay for breakfast elsewhere which was not good at all.

The backpackers is in a beautiful old house that is well renovated and maintained. The facilities are all really good and we were very comfortable in the twin room. It’s set in a great location to explore the beautiful little town on foot, and the hosts were helpful in recommending interesting places to visit. A great place for a stopover on a long trip, or to stay in for longer periods of time.

2 Self catering units with bathrooms en-suite. Each unit can sleep 4. 1 Double room with shower en -suite. Sleeps 2. Coffee and tea facilities only.
A lovely self catering place! Purposefully designed. The decor can be improved, but it has all the elements it should have! There is no shower, which is a let down. The place is neat and clean The bed matress is not good enough; must be of better quality!!

Sneeuberg Nature Reserve comprises 5 standalone farmhouses and cottages that have been refurbished and renovated to the highest standards by renowned interior decorator Charlotte Daneel. The estate is about 77km from Graaff-Reinet, 35km from Nieu-Bethesda and 40km from Middelburg. The houses are rented out per unit and not per room, ranging from R2300pn per cottage to R7900pn per house. The 14 500 hectare reserve provides an abundance of grazing for the eland, zebra, Nguni and other small antelope, with activities like hiking, mountain biking, swimming, picnics, stargazing and 4x4 driving.
Our three nights went too fast. Never have we experienced such tranquility and peacefulness. Yet with the comfort of knowing our hostess, a couple of kilometres away, will be in touch every day to see if all is fine. Many thanks for maintaining this beautiful building to allow people, looking to escape from the city, a place where they can rest.

Exceptional place to stay. Rooms very beautiful. Linen very clean and of high quality. Feels like home. One of the best places we stay in the past 10 years. Host Althea and husband Aubrey are very helpful and friendly. Althea thanks again for my mother's birthday present.

I stayed for the evening during a short visit to Nieu-Bethesda in the Aardvark's Burrow at the back of a church hall that is used as part of "emergency accommodation" by Outsiders B&B. There is enough beds for about 4 people with a hot shower and a composting toilet (new experience for a city dweller). The creaking wooden floor created lots of atmosphere. I had parking inside the premises for my car. Hot water for coffee and a fridge to keep any food cool were next door in the washing room used by Outsiders for cleaning their bedding.

What an enjoyable and cosy Cottage with safe parking and everything you need for a "lui-lekker" stay! Was a bit surprised that there were no ATM's for cash but Heinrich was very helpful in getting us organised with some cash. Him and his wife are such helpful and friendly hosts, thanks guys! We were very centralized in town and close to all attractions and restaurants. Be advised to bring your own food and beverage supplies as there is not much variety around. The scenic drive and ambiance are also much enjoyable! If you stay for a few days, this is the place for you! We have photographed the opening of a cactus- flower in the garden, what a beautiful experience - see picture!
