The Crown Hotel is situated in the picturesque market town of Newton Stewart, in the heart of Galloway, south west Scotland. This area is becoming well-known for the outstanding beauty & variety of its natural landscape and for the growing opportunities for outdoor pursuits, from golf and fishing, to bird-watching and hill-walking, and most recently for the new 7-Stanes mountain bike trails in the nearby Galloway Forest Park.
I had booked 13 rooms for a group visiting Galloway and had others joining in the evening for meals. Many thanks to all the friendly staff for their help in making our visit a success. Its a lovely old building with lots of character, many levels and heights. The rooms were all clean and comfortable with a welcome pack of tea/coffee given on checkin. Restaurant staff were great and food was always well cooked and hot. A good menu both for breakfast and evening meals and 28 guests were served quickly. Many thanks

Since taking over the House O'Hill in March 2010, we have tastefully refurbished all areas of the hotel. But what makes the House O'Hill truly special is the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere that greets weary visitors looking for rest and relaxation away from the stresses of modern urban living. Set in the Galloway Forest, we are the perfect base for exploring the Galloway hills and taking part in the vast array of outdoor pursuits the area has to offer. To name but a few, we are closely situated to the Glentrool 7 Stane mountain bike trail as well as being in the middle of the UK's first Dark Sky Park! We offer B&B, DB&B and self catering tariffs for guests. We can even rustle you up a packed lunch to take away with you during your explorations. Our cosy restaurant boasts first rate cuisine and there will always be a roaring fire and friendly welcome awaiting you.
Long wait to order food, then another delay of 30 minutes for starter to arrive. There were several dishes listed on the menu that were not available. Poorly organised and chaotic. Would not recommend.

The hotel was clean and staff friendly. But it was very tired, exhausted really, and dated - with old carpets and all in need of an upgrade. They have the smallest of TVs no bigger than about 20’’. We only stayed for one night so it was ok but so wouldn’t have wanted a longer stay.

We are family-run. We're sure you'll find that our tranquil setting and excellent food will ensure a memorable visit. Galloway is as yet an unspoiled area with wonderful countryside and quiet roads but much to see and do. You will enjoy relaxing in our friendly bar with open fire or dining in our à la carte restaurant on the finest traditional food in the region.
Same old cheap carvery, deep fryer roast potatoes, frozen veg, watery horseradish, dried up chicken, and good old gravy granules (surely nobody would make gravy like that) even looked like frozen Yorkshire's. Overpriced considering the quality of produce offered

Brewery House is a Grade B listed former brewers house in Newton Stewart South West Scotland.
Nicole and Johnathan are wonderful, friendly and professional hosts. We loved our stay at Brewery House - the room was perfect; bed was massive and very comfortable; breakfast options were great and very nicely cooked (esp. the poached eggs!) and the items of pottery were brilliant too. Would love to stay again ?

Enjoyed a lovely weekend here with friends. We stayed at Mid Lodge which was very cosy, clean and well equipped. Welcome goodie box was much appreciated - all handmade locally - except the wine! Set in gorgeous surroundings, it was a peaceful stay. There is a busy road behind but it didn’t cause noise. We enjoyed walking the dogs around the estate and visited nearby whisky distillery (highly recommend the platters!) There is a gin distillery too nearby but was closed that weekend. Great WiFi so we were able to stream movies without an issue. Really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

This is how it’s done. From the warm welcome on our arrival, the lovely room complete with gorgeous views through to the delicious food, we couldn’t have wished for a better experience. The gardens are lovely and the house is a short walk from Wigtown village square where there’s a welcoming wee pub. The other guests were all of the same opinion. If you’re looking for a real treat, don’t miss this hidden gem. A five star experience for a two star price. Outstanding. Thanks for a lovely stay.

I stayed for one night as I was on a work trip. Very easy to find and a lovely friendly welcome. The pub is cosy and like a home from home. the room was lovely, clean, comfortable and had everything you’d need. En suite shower room, kettle, microwave, decent TV with firestick access, free WiFi, and most important a comfy bed. It is also dog friendly and although I didn’t have my dogs with me I’ll be coming back for a longer stay with them to explore the area. Easy access to the A75, if you are travelling that way definitely worth a stop over or longer stay, the breakfast was delicious and Debbie and Dave were the perfect hosts. Highly recommend
