The Old Stores Bed & Breakfast is a fine Georgian house conveniently positioned in the historic town of Montgomery, and is the perfect base for exploring Mid Wales and the Shropshire borders. There's so much to do outdoors! Furnished with original artwork and handwoven carpets, it provides two luxurious boutique-style bedrooms.
Everything about our visit was just right - the lovely interiors, the comfortable beds, the perfectly cooked breakfast; and the peace and quiet of a beautiful border town. I just wish we'd had more time to browse the fascinating books left for us to enjoy or relax in the patio garden. Thank you, Ruth, for such a delightful two nights' stay!

17Th century former Coaching Inn set in historic Montgomery just below the old castle ruins, surrounded by glorious Mid-Wales/Shropshire rolling countryside. 20 En-suite bedrooms. Most rooms with exposed beams. Free WiFi and car parking. Traditional restaurant and informal bar serving the best of local produce. Ideal for Offa's Dyke and Powis Castle.
Overall very pleased, staff all friendly and room large and comfortable. Dinner was very good and great range of local beers. Breakfast was very tasty. Room was large and comfortable and very good value for money. Perfect location. Shower in my room needed maintenance as head holder loose and hard to change temperature, was fine after lots of adjusting. Early morning loud grinding noise coming from another part of the hotel kept waking me up.

Mellington Hall Country House Hotel is a Grade II Listed 19th Century house set in beautiful landscaped grounds with spectacular views in every direction. A mile from the nearest road, the hotel offers country house seclusion, comfortable, well-appointed and well-equipped rooms, and locally sourced food and drink. Call in for coffee, stay for lunch. Take afternoon tea or stay a few days. The aim of everyone you meet here is to ensure that guests leave refreshed, glad they came, and already planning their next visit! In the adjacent grounds there is a beautifully laid out holiday home park of the highest quality which is run alongside the Hotel.
Only visited for an evening meal. They were quite happy for us to be in casual wear. The menu was reasonably extensive but lacked any kind of salad but they made one up for my wife anyway and she really enjoyed it. My steak was cooked just right for my tastes. OK it's not cheap but it is comparable to other pubs/restaurants within the area. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming and the Hall itself is quite stunning. The staff and owners were great and very down to Earth. We had a stroll around the grounds after our meal and it all looked very well kept. The static caravan park looked to be very good with modern caravans. If we are in the area again I would happily dine there.

The Checkers is a fine dining restaurant with rooms in the heart of Montgomery, a picturesque Welsh borders town close to the Offa’s Dyke path, river Severn and Shropshire Hills.
The new owners have a great pedigree in the fine dining business. The restaurant feels calm and relaxed and service is friendly not fussy. The tasting menu is 7 courses of beautifully cooked food with amazing flavours. I had the vegetarian menu and did not feel cheated in any way. The first course was a cucumber gazpacho with accompaniments, then burrata and heritage tomatoes (not as simple as it sounds), asparagus with Parmesan cream for me and Turbot for my husband, lamb or a herb and cheese risotto. This was all followed by rhubarb & white chocolate custard and an amazing salted caramel tart. I can’t say enough nice things about the food so suggest you go quickly before everyone else finds out about it.
