Reviewed By greenladybourneWe booked this hotel through booking.com. We had the worse service from one person - the proprietress. She is a cancer for this business. We were told by her daughter in law that because of the rude service we received, to leave a bad review on booking.com about it. According to her, she does this to all her guests no matter what your nationality is. We found though that we can’t leave a review on booking.com because someone there managed to get our booking cancelled, after we had stayed there and checked out! Although we did get a room with a view the rooms are done on the cheap with laminate flooring and not the wood/parquet flooring they advertise on booking.com. When we arrived we were able to get a hot meal before the restaurant closed at 2pm. However what I received was reheated leftovers from last nights dinner. The only thing that appeared freshly cooked was the meat. This however was served very rare. We were given the dinner menu to order off of, so it was also very expensive at €44. My husband had an €18 pasta dish which was pretty poor. Since we finished eating after 2pm, we weren’t hungry for dinner but we decided to come down at about 7:30 for drinks and dessert. We ordered drinks from the proprietor but later when we asked the proprietress about the cake of the day on the dessert menu she practically shouted at me saying “No Cake” and that we can’t sit here if we’re not going to order food! I gently told her that we just had a huge meal a few hours ago and that we weren’t that hungry (we didn’t want any more of their awful food) but I told her we were considering the cheese course along with a dessert. As soon as I pointed to the cheese course, she was apparently ok with that and said fine and that we can choose our desserts after (which we thought was strange). The cheese course was ridiculous. It was mostly all hard cheeses and a lump of Parmesan with one soft Gorgonzola type of cheese. No fruit, no honey, no crackers/biscuits, no chutney. When we checked out we found she charged us for a grande platter which was €6 more a piece. Her behaviour throughout was odd and very aggressive. She seemed to want to control the situation and wasn’t providing good service. After waiting a considerable amount of time and no one coming to our table to give us the menus to order dessert, I took the initiative to get the menus. Apparently she was affronted by this and very angrily slammed down some menus she picked up from another table and shot us a dirty look. We ordered desserts from her husband who was actually friendly. She never came by our table again. When we left the table and walked past her my husband said thank you and goodnight but she just glowered at me. This was the most we paid at any of our stops on the three weeks we travelled through Europe and it was easily one of the worst. This place is a cash cow and they don’t really need to even try to make money. It’s got great views but mediocre to poor service, cheap interiors and they give you sachets for shampoo and cheap little soaps for the toiletries, which cost them next to nothing to provide. The food as I experienced was not great.

With local tax you have free public Transport (Bus, Train) as well as many Special offers on attractiions in the entire canton Ticino. Free parking nearby available. Comfortably Close are the Train Station and Bus stop. Motorway A2 to and from Italy, Exit no.51 for Melide, 4km to Lugano City Center, makes it easy for an overnight stay without getting caught up in City traffic. Ideal for families, Business People, couples enjoying a leasure and pleasure Holiday with excursions.

Reviewed By 214samfioWe spent a night at the Boccalino and booked a family room. It was spacious, spotless and very comfortable. Our children got a proper, solid bunk-bed - much better than the rickety "prison-style" bunks that you get in some hotels. It was the type of bunk bed that even adults could comfortably sleep in. The buffet breakfast was great and there was plenty of everything. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. We had an issue with our booking (the fault lay on the booking portal, not the Boccalino) and they sorted it out even when the booking portal didn't. We had a car and the drive into Lugano took less than 10 minutes. Overall a great place.

Reviewed By Jamie MWhat is good: the waterfront location and the staff are friendly / helpful What is not so good: the room cleanliness (cobwebs in corners of room); maintenance (tv socket hanging off wall, lightbulb blown); noise levels from road and other rooms; lack of air conditioning (fans only); poor curtains so bright rooms at 5am (some of the rooms do have metal shutters) and 'fitness suite' (a seemingly random selection of poorly maintained equipment). Wifi is variable. Breakfast is fine. Not sure about the price as booked through business but should be a value hotel.

Clean, noisy and breakfast was disappointing
Reviewed By fromholland_70The view from the queen suite was wonderful. The room and hotel were very clean. I was disappointed about the breakfast. The restaurant is almost Michelin nivo which is a big contrast to the breakfast. No eggs, ham was half frozen. One kind of bread and different pasteries. Coffee was from a huge koffiemachine. Speaking of coffee, we appreciate coffee in our room. Now nothing no Nespresso no watercooker nor that guests are offered coffee from the restaurant. In other hotels there is nothing in the room due to Covid but offered at the reception(tip). The wooden floor in our room was loose and came up in several places. The rooms were also not isolated so we could hear everything happening in and outside the hotel. When we stayed a few years ago there was a waterbicycle which we used, unfortunately not there anymore.
