Stayed for one night and everything was great. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were buffet style and everything we tried was pretty good. Our room was a decent size and we had a spectacular view. I tried the onsen and it was nice enough. Felt good to soak in it after being out in the snow! There are plenty of things to do nearby. It snowed a lot when we were there so we didn't get to explore as much, but we definitely plan on going back.

Spent two nights here. The hotel is looking a little tired in certain areas....especially some of the bedrooms in the older part of the hotel are downright shabby! The communal areas have been refurbished somewhat but the rooms are of different quality...try to get one in the refurbished part of the hotel...you have to pay an extra fee but it's well worth it...the rooms with their own private outdoor bath are excellent. The restaurant was relatively small for the number of guests...especially on a Friday night/Saturday morning and as with all Yukai Resort properties there is limited English signage in the restaurant and bathing areas. There is no English in the lobby area on the information boards or elsewhere so you ll need to ask if you need anything.Iwata San spoke a little English and offered a good level of customer service. The food on offer is simple Japanese fare with a few western dishes. The best thing about this hotel is the baths. The outside bath at the front of the hotel is split over a 24 hour period between men's time and women's time. Again the indoor baths in the basement area change over between 1am and 2 am so you get the chance to experience all the baths during your stay. From Friday - Sunday many families come to stay so try to avoid the weekends if you're looking for a truly relaxing experience. There are massage chairs available but they are grouped closely together in one small area so it's difficult to relax. There is a convenience store about a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel if you need anything and it's a 15-20 minute walk in the opposite direction to the Yubara onsen area. The central area had no atmosphere at this time of year. There were only a few places to eat there and a number of abandoned or closed buildings...but Hakkei near the famous Sunoyu riverside baths allow outside guests to use their hot springs between 11am - 2 pm for a 1000 yen fee (bath towel is available for 500 yen so take your own... or use the smaller towels available in the changing room areas) All in all Yukai resorts offer great value for an overnight stay with 2 meals and good baths.

Yubara onsen has been famous for its pubic outdoor hot spring and the hotel is very close to this tourist spot. Founded 55 years ago, the hotel had become the late emperor's resort for a few occasions. Onsen pools are located on the 4th,5th and the roof top. In partcular, on the5th floor spa, the wall ceramic was specially made with sakura flower pattern, peacock, and plum tree to entertain the emperor 's eyes. Hotel staff are friendly and energetic. The room has been well kept and reserved for His Majesty family up to present. All in all, Yubara kokusai has maintained its arrogant that is worn out through time... This is perhaps one of the best places to feel the spirit of genuine Japanese onsen.

Ryokan
Zero response from the hotel when I email them via Agoda in English and google translated Japanese. No response when I email them via their website . On site service is decent though the Japanese style room is slightly old. Decent hot spring size and amenities. Kaiseki meal are reasonably ok for the priced paid but it is served in a common area and not in room Last meal will be served at 7pm so best to check in by 530.

We stayed in a cottage called Akane. The house is pretty and located in quiet green area but still close to main Hiruzen attactions. It was clean and comfortable. There is a place for BBQ that we enjoyed in the evening - we bought BBQ set at the reception. Kitchen is well-equipped with all tools we needed. Toiletries are also provided so we took just small baggage. It was convenient. We spend much time relaxing in the house as it has TV with DVD player and even massage chair. But my favourite was the rock outdoor bath. It feels like in real onsen but private, only for you, and super cozy. The staff is nice and helpful.

We have operated the inn from 1688 at yubara hot spring in Okayama Prefecture. All the rooms are equipped with a hot spring bath. We prepare our meal at the wooden meal in front of the facility.
