Lumbini Buddha Garden is a quiet and tranquil resort close to the birthplace of Lord Buddha, at Lumbini in south-central Nepal. The garden boasts a private haven of tranquility surrounding the resort, in a sense a spiritual ‘buffer zone’ from the outside world for visiting tourists. The Lumbini Buddha Garden is set in a natural environment so that, during a stay, our guests feel that they are living in true harmony with nature.
I picked this resort based on other reviews and I am glad I did. I am on a pilgrimage to the Birthplace of Buddha and the Maya Devi Temple. As soon as I arrived I was greeted with the staff's smiling faces. I was taken to the dinning room to relax and get something to drink. From that moment the staff was very attentive, responsive, and kind. The room was extremely clean and the air conditioner worked great. This is important due to the high temperatures in Lumbini. Each morning I was amazed and filled with joy as to the variety and sounds of all the birds in the resort's peaceful courtyard. The only thing better than the birds singing in the morning, was the quality of the food. WOW!! Everything was delicious. I decided to take a Tuk Tuk each way to Maya Devi Temple and the resort was happy to call for one every time. I did not want to walk the distance to the sacred garden grounds in the Lumbini heat. Overall I had a fantastic experience at the Lumbini Buddha Garden Resort.

We intended just to stop in Tansen for a night to break up the long journey from Bardiya but ended up staying here longer. The family are really welcoming and had loads of local knowledge about the area and suggestions for places to hike and things to see nearby. Room was comfortable with hot water and a nice area to sit outside.

Outstanding ambience and lovely staffs. It's a very cool and cosy place at the same time. I love the pool side bar.. but roof top bar is never the less. Was a great experience with my family. Would love to come again and again just because of good food best environment and excellent service.

Buddha-Maya Garden Hotel is owned and managed by the famous KGH Group. You may wake up to the sound of chirping of birds and religious hymns and take a morning walk to the Lumbini Sacred Garden or mediate in ancient archeological ruins, you can also visit the Monastic Zone to see the fascinating archeological ruins, and magnificent monasteries. In evening, stroll in the Tharu village at Buddha Nagar to observe age old culture and tradition.
For my overnight stay in Lumbini, I chose to stay at the Buddha Maya Garden rather than a standard guest house because I knew I’d have some free time and the idea of a nice place with a pool to relax in appealed. The pool was decent, and there were a few sun loungers, although I had to help myself to a mattress and towels. The area was a bit of a mess and unsupervised. Then just after I ordered some lunch, a member of staff began to pressure wash around the pool. Not really conducive to relaxing! It’s a strange hotel, stuck in its ways and showing its age. Totally lifeless apart from a couple of groups having meetings. Not sure if they were guests or not. I almost felt like I was in the way! The staff were pleasant enough but seem to just go through the motions. Breakfast a bit lacklustre. My room had the biggest bed I’ve ever seen, but it was pretty well worn and without things like a safe and hairdryer which you’d probably expect at this price point. There was a TV - local channels only, but it didn’t work anyway! The bathroom, especially the bath itself, was looking very tired. Most frustratingly I couldn’t even use the bath because the water never got any hotter than tepid. Perhaps the most irritating thing was that the Wi-Fi user name and password kept changing. I was only there 24 hours and I was on the fourth combo when I left!

LOCATION & ATTRACTIONS NEARBY *** Located in the main part of Lumbini town, just few steps away from one of the gate to get to the Maya Devi Temple and Old Shakya Temple. It’s literally few minutes away, walking. After that, I recommend to negotiate an auto-rikshaw (they have electric ones now) to see all other temples and the World Peace Pagoda (distances are huge, so this is very efficient way to do it), it’s not expensive and definitely more comfortable. Also, if you’re travelling by bus, they will be probably stopping somewhere in the area. There are some food and souvenir shops just 2 min away from the hotel. HOTEL OVERVIEW *** It is quite basic hotel, not very pretty (like most buildings in Lumbini), built in a bit chaotic style (outside). If you’re travelling by car, you can leave it in front of the hotel or in the secured place behind the hotel (behind the gate). PURPOSE OF THIS TRIP *** Leisure RESERVATION *** Via ebookers.ie (expedia) as they offered the best pre-paid rates. LENGTH OF MY STAY *** 1 night – Mar 2019 CHECK-IN *** We arrived in the early evening after long and tired full journey from Kathmandu (I was driving myself). The amount of dust we consumed on the way was unbelievable. So what we needed, was a quick check-in and shower. We’ve been accommodated immediately and helped with our luggage. Rooms were allocated as requested as we’re travelling with friends. Check-in was quick and hassle-free. We’ve been advised of the meal options and what / when / where to go the next day. I also requested if they have somebody to help with the car wash (yes, unusual request, but my car was actually covered in 1 cm layer of dust) and they helped with it (of course I paid for it as intended). LOBBY & RECEPTION *** Small reception where you can also get some drinks. There’s restaurant attached to it where we decided to have our dinner. Menu was quite simple, but good choice and food was delicious. We were very happy with this choice. ROOM *** Standard Rooms #203 & #202 were allocated for us. Rooms were quite small and basic, but this is exactly what I paid for. I have to admit, the price we paid was silly low, so I wasn’t expecting any luxurious. Room was clean and fresh, with two beds (quite hard mattress’). Air-conditioner unit was quite noisy, but the fan was absolutely fine most of the time. There was small wardrobe, mirrors and coffee/tea making kit. Complimentary 2 bottles of water were also provided. As I said, nothing special (this is not a luxury hotel), but more than I expected and paid for. BATHROOM *** Similar to the room, standard, but clean. Some soap was provided, but you may consider having your own toiletries. BREAKFAST *** We paid for the breakfast in the hotel and this was very good idea. The selection was enough and same as dinner, quite tasty. Definitely recommend doing it instead of walking around and trying to find something else. No point of wasting your time. INTERNET ACCESS *** Wi-Fi was free of charge, easy to access and signal was very strong. CHECK-OUT EXPERIENCE *** We checked-out in the morning after breakfast, left our luggage and also left our car for few hours until we’re back from our sightseeing. All bill was paid (by card) and all was smooth and hassle-free. The only negative comment I have with the check-out… As we’re going to depart, I could not find my action camera (which I use also as on board car camera). After few minutes searching the guy from reception came back with the device. It was found when cleaning the room. I was glad for it, but… if I didn’t search for it, probably I would not be told that this was found in the room (and I know because the camera recorded everything…). I deleted it already, but just for the future guys… STAFF *** Very helpful and quick. I really appreciated quick check-in, communication before arrival, room allocation, help with the car wash. OVERVIEW *** This is a good 3* hotel. Price is very low and definitely worth it. Hotel was actually better than I expected. I’m giving score 4/5, but this is not a four star hotel – this place is BASIC. Would I stay there again? Yes.

This used to be a good hotel but probably after lock-down, the business has gone down during last many months - now improving gradually. The beautiful view in front of main hotel building do not exist now and at first instance it looks little filthy due to renovation at the entrance and front side of the hotel. Slightly away from the main city centre but still good to get away from highway traffic. sleep quality good with comfortable bed, TV and AC - however, I could not find desired bed type as requested (king bed), not sure if they don't have or was occupied. Staff are good and welcoming. (-) Breakfast needs more improvement and good attention by staff to meet the needs of guest - limited choice of food (-) room interiors and bathroom amenities poor - needs some improvement

This property is not centrally located (you'll need a 10-minute tuk tuk ride) and not 100% handy as such to visit Lumbini's temples but it's hand down the best one around especially if you are keen to avoid sleeping in a guesthouse. The room was very ample and comfortable, so was the bed. WIFI worked fine and was reliable throughout the stay. Good restaurant too although a bit overpriced to be perfectly honest. Staff absolutely gorgeous, which is quite typical in Nepal.
